There is no non-official testing in GP2, or anywhere really.

Force India still open in reality for the driver with the most money.

I don't think a single pay driver (Except technically Sutil, who DOES bring money) has even been rumoured to Force India, it's only Sutil, Nico, Di Resta, all of whom are salaried drivers.

What does that mean in terms of open seats for next year? Lewis will re-sign at McLaren, so it's just the Williams seat? I can't think of any other...

HRT still have a space, whatever tonio thinks.

So i'd love to wave goodbye to.........

Sutil (meh!)

Trulli (just fuck off to your vineyard already)

Petrov (taking off was the best thing he's ever done in an F1 car)

Maldonado (worst driver of 2011 IMHO)

All of the HRT/Virgin drivers bar Riccardo.

Massa? (might be a bit harsh as much as he annoys me sometimes there's no doubt he has the ability to be great, like Lewis i think he just had a bad season)

Driver i'm happy if he races or he doesn't.

Reubens. (you can't dislike him on any level, but part of me does think make way for new talent, but i would never begrudge him a drive)

Drivers i'd love to see in a seat.

Kimi ( :) )

Hulkenberg,

Grosjean.

Kimi's back !! :) :) :)

Edit - Did I post that already?

Sorry just glad to see the ice man back.

Now I really need to sort out my F1 viewing for next year.

I'm with virgin media for telephone & broadband so I am hoping the rumour of the £10 month for the F1 channel is true so I can sign up to that.

Why are we excited to see a guy who didn't give a shit and was outscored in the same car by fucking MASSA back?

Favourite drivers and all that, I've always liked Kimi's racing style & his no nonsense attitude.

It's another character on the grid for next year which should make the grid more exciting.

Yes. :omg: :OMG: :omg:

Fantastic news.

One of the very best F1 drivers of his generation is back. What is there not to like? Eye wateringly fast and a great non corporate personality.

I just loved the race in Moncao where he retired & he just went back to relax on his yacht :)

ppffft midtable respectability at best. Petrov will make him look ordinary.

I don't think so, it took Schumi a few races & ha has been fairly consistent in finishing in the top 10.

This season is just over & I am already so excited I can't wait till 16th March 2012

Schumacher ... a seven times world champions and highly motivated racing driver .... has had a few good results and a pretty much another year to forget.

Kimi is most famous for not giving a shit for the last two years of his contract ...

Do you see ?

If's & but's, we don't know yet but we will next year find out if he still has the hunger or he has just come back because he has run out of money.

Like I said having him on the grid will make the grid more exciting & I hope Renault develop a good car for next season.

Renault don't look like producing anything other than another pile of shit next year. Half the design team walked out though this year and the new boys are untried. If Kimi thinks he's walking into a top 5 car he is sorely mistaken.

However, if he is treating the next two years as a training exercise so he's ready for the great driver migration in 2014 and the chance of a better top line drive, then thats fine.

I don't expect him to be anything other than midtable fodder for the next year or so and anyone else who doesn't is fooling no one but themselves.

It's difficult to predict this sport at the best of time, will renault have a good car?, will kimi be good enough for a top 10 finish?

To take a famous quote

"IF is a very long word in Formula One; in fact, IF is F1 spelled backwards"

Time will tell let's wait & see. For now lets just be glad we have another character in F1

I dunno, I think this years renault never got the results it deserved, Senna and Petrov aren't world champion material, it should've been on opportunistic podiums.

I also think Raikkonen's performance in the Ferrari shouldn't be taken as any kind of benchmark of his ability, there was something strange about him in that team or that car that really didn't work, he was really out of sorts.

So next year looks like having even more world champions on the grid, awesome!

Maybe Sky are helping pay for these drivers to generate viewers :sherlock:

This is just laughable. Class is permanent.

Comparison with the cobbler is futile because Michael has been as fast as the car despite it not suiting his driving style. Given a car he can commit in he will do a lot better. In 2010 he got a car designed for Button and this year the car was constrained by the one year weight distribution rules.

Petrov is not even as fast as the car he is driving. Kimi can and often does outperform the car.

Comparing Kimi with Massa is no disgrace because pre accident Massa was mightily fast. You have a very short memory if you don't remember this. Anyhow Kimi got WDC in a car with incredibly tricky tyre management problems. And missed out on two WDCs because of very fragile Newey cars.

Anyhow your post is now preserved so we can dig it up next year and laugh.

So, Bernie wants to eventually have only five European races.

Which races would you keep? For me it's quite easy:

Silverstone - it's the home of F1

Spa - one of the top three proper racing tracks on the calendar

Monaco - the pinnacle of F1 prestige

Monza - home to Ferrari

Nurburgring/Hockenheim - a lot of history, and plenty of German influence currently in F1

As for the ones I left out:

Catalunya - the track isn't exactly exciting, and with the exception of Alonso, Spain has (afaiaa) no real F1 heritage

Valencia - turn it back into a fish market please

Hungaroring - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................

Of course, we're all set for a Russian GP, which could mean the death of Spa... :(

Some races will go to alternate years.

Like the hosting of the German GP now.

New tracks will be built, billions spent and European races cut. Then once the initial peak of interest has gone, crowds will fade away.

Ecclestone is 81. By the time we've raced for a few years of only 5 Euro races he'll be either dead or certainly not running things on a day to day basis. The successors will look at the bottom line, do the maths and the inevitable will happen. A retreat back to Europe where the punters are.

Look at Turkey, Korea, China, and soon Russia and India.

Korea has a year left at most, China I give 2 and India 3 tops. We'll never go back to Turkey either. The US races are a bit of a joke and I won't believe either will actually happen till I see the cars and Martin on the grid.

I think we'll all be better off when Ecclestone pops his clogs. It's not just the issue over coverage, which was as much/more to do with the british economy as Ecclestone. As Eddie Jordan said, live on air "We're all just Bernie's puppets". Bernie doesn't give two shits about the sport and the fans, just lining his pockets.

Take Austin, i'm almost certain that the issue with the track has come because he's now got New York/Jersey. Why wait until the track is half built before there are problems? The timing is suspect to say the least. The lack of giving two shits about the trouble in Bahrain is almost certainly due to wanting Arab money rather than taking the sensible option and going somewhere else next year where there is already a track and facilities but no concern over social problems.

i think the Austin thing is a bit more murky than Bernie stabbing them in the back.

They were using state money without asking anyone if they could and there were a lot of shady deals going on around it. The state guvener is using the race in New York as an excuse to get her out of the mess. As to the land it was owned by one group, the track built on the land by another and the rights to hold the GP was owned by a third. It was all a total mess. see also USF1 for details of how not to deal with F1.
