I was at Le Mans sitting at the edge of the awning of a bunch of Germans watching the race on German TV. when Button went past for the win all the English in the field next let out a huge roar. the germans turned the TV off and started to pack up.

It was the highlight of the year for me.

You get the impression that many of the drivers go out of their way to make time for the BBC. There are more than a few stories about them all hanging out before/after races

Whatever you want to say about Coulthard, Jordan and Brundle, it seems like they command the respect of the teams and drivers as well as being fair with their analysis and interviewing technique. Jake Humphrey is just an all round nice guy, his NFL work also showed that he's pretty easy going with anyone.

The rest of the BBC team seem to feed off that, they look pretty autonomous and that lets them build up a relationship with the sport.
