It's cheaper for the BBC because the major cost is Bernie's invoice, and Sky are paying the lion's share of that for live rights to all the races.

Based on my limited understanding of heat transfer and mechanics of materials, it depends. If the tires are new and as close to round as possible then you could get away with doing complex computer simulations. If you're talking about tyres that are deformed/have been used then it probably does need testing, yes. They would've tested it in the winter break anyway, surely?

on the grounds that my sky bill is already £60 a month (tv with entertainment+ package, broadband and phone line) another tenner is more than i think i can afford. Okay it's not the £600 odd for the sky sports gig, but still.

I think the situation is FAR better than we could realistically have imagined when the deal was first announced.

They didn't have to put it on a separate channel. They could have spread it over their sports channels and made us buy them all. So I think a bit of credit is due - i know.

Of course this all goes out the water if they charge Virgin customers through the roof for the same service - or don't give them it (or HD) at all. Then I'll be popping down to their offices with a Saints Row dildo to deal out some justice.
