It's not that surprising. He was slower and his pride meant that he turned in despite knowing Hamilton was there. You don't get preference for being mildly ahead. Hamilton is entitled to have a go, i.e. racing, and it's up to the other driver to make one move and either defend properly without causing an avoidable collision or to give way. He did what Hamilton has been accused of all year which is letting pride get in the way of racing. Hamilton's been a div this year but that was Massa being childish.

Interesting. Hamilton was virtually alongside him, but backed out. If you're going to back out and brake earlier, surely you can't just do it a little bit, you have to fully back out. Massa shouldn't have turned in though, obviously. Lewis was practically alongside him before either braked.

that decision reeks of polictics. Like a ref who has given out so many cards to a team he dare not punish them any more for fear of the fans forming a lynch mob. Hamilton needs to stop playing videogames. Diving into a corner on the inside of a car and bouncing off them to take it faster is pure Gran Truisms.

as for people moaning that he turned in, what was he supposed to do? There was quite a lack of road and he had the line.

Boo hoo Massa, when is he going to be replaced at Ferrari with someone competent?

It's sad really but he's not been the same since the crash.

Sympathy apparently buys you at least another 3 years in a top team, wouldn't have happened in Enzo's day.

Yeah Massa was certainly far enough ahead he can't be blamed for turning in but a full car? Self evidently no.

I agree but it was hardly a huge gap and there's no rule that says being ahead allows you to turn in as/when you like without fear of being overtaken. There's more than one racing line for most corners and this track has been specifically set up to maximise overtaking. Hamilton's closing speed was faster and it was a legitimate move. Massa had other options, he just took the wrong one.

Because Massa had to turn across Lewis's path.

Lewis was already going slower at that point though.

I absolutely believe Massa had enough right to turn in to make it no more than 50-50 but at no point after the initial overlap was there clear air.

After seeing the replay a couple of times, it looks like Hamilton was right alongside Massa but actually hit the breaks earlier (maybe to avoid another Massalol incident) so it looked like he was further back, but Massa turned into him anyway.

Now that drama is over this race is going to be boring, thanks Vettel.

I never said there was...

But there is no way Massa could not have seen Hamilton, yet he still turned in. Was he expecting the car to disappear? Sometimes you have to conceed a position!
