The Formula 1 Thread

I give it 2 years before the first US race is off the calendar and 4 for the other to expire.

The first races will be marginal successes due to the more hardcore fans from round the world wanting to go. As soon as they've been and gone - and the locals need to be making up the lions share of the audience, the races will die.

Ah, another dogshit poor country that can't really afford to be hosting a race (though in the current climate, can anyone?). Bernie getting a hard on about silverstone as usual and JS moaning about drivers standards. I've no idea how rich CVC is getting out of these new races but it must be filthy, filthy rich.

I'm going out. :coffee:

A ticket is the same as a month's salary. That's quite poor. A few people controlling the country's wealth doesn't mean it's not a poor country.

India has a PPP GDP per capita of $3,408 according to IMF figures. $3,586 according to the World Bank.

So the average is about ten times what the programme said.

Personally I think it will be a great race. Dusty and tricky, there's going to be spins and safety cars aplenty. Anyone in the top 5 can win this race.

On a fantastic circuit that really sorts out the drivers.

The best "new" circuit. Some great bends.

Two DRS zones and a very long straight to use it on.

Excellent all round.

I'm feeling a bit more positive about it now I've resigned myself to it. The anger's gone. Maybe they'll actually pull it off and do a good job?

Every sport that Sky have gone into they have done a lot better than terrestrial TV. They revolutionised the coverage of soccer.

I am still not going to pay them though.

How exactly are they going to 'sort' qually? RB have a car that's just waaaaay better than any other in qually trim and one driver that's waaaay better than the other.

There's nothing wrong with qually, this year is a one off.

3 cars not setting times to save tyres? I'd say that's pretty wrong. They need an extra Q3 only set of soft's so teams will go out & set a time.

Yeah but that's another issue, Vettel's dominance is an annomoly.

Personally I couldnt give a toss if the midfield teams don't run. I will admit it doesnr look good tho. It's an easy think to sort for next year with a regs tweak. A use em or loose em rule would do the trick.

Going back to the Hamilton penalty, if it was just him then it wouldn't matter. But it was Perez as well who sped through that section. So either there was faulty information or they both made the same mistake, which seems more likely. From what we could see on the coverage Button was close or past Massa's crash before the yellows came out, so he should avoid a penalty.

And I can see why Massa was trying to cut the inside of that corner repeatedly, but several of the drivers had trouble there, the inside kerb throwing them off balance and then wide through the next turn.

As for the lack of effort from teams in Q3, I think the best solution is to give everyone a clear track for a single run in that session, based on the reverse order of finishing in Q2. So 10th would go out and set a time, then 9th and so on.

That would be inconsistent application of the rules though. Either Button should have reacted to the flag/lights which appeared after he passed the incident, on the presumption that there was another crash up ahead, or Hamilton did nothing wrong by reacting to the lights going green and assuming the flag wavers were simply slow to react.
