Rudolf Uhlenhaut?

Oooh, good call! Just finished my second read-through of Racing the Silver Arrows and it reminded me how beautiful his Mercedes were. The W154 was a lovely machine.

Very interesting period on motorsport history, the pre-war stuff.

Does change the slant on my "he's the innocent victim rather a lot" theory (ie, most of the top drivers would have anticipates Hamilton's move and left an extra six inches). I had it down to lack of awareness/poor reaction time, but maybe it is more "I'm never giving an inch. Back off or we'll both crash".

For massa to then attack Hamilton for being a dangerous driver after the race. Just shows how fucked up he is, Hamilton has had nothing but grief over this and now it would appear that massa was told to ruin his race deliberately.

I so hope McLaren go to town on this.

Don't think there's really anything they can go to town over, though. The radio call is nothing out of the ordinary - have heard countless radio transmissions over the years saying 'hold him up', 'we can't afford to let him through' etc, and the accident itself wasn't a case of Massa turning in early or such; Lewis still hit the back of him, so it's still his fault. Not a terribly stupid move, but it was his responsibility to avoid the contact. If the accident had been like the Hamilton/Webber one last year then I would have started feeling a bit uneasy about it, but the way it all turned out I don't see what the issue is.

'Destroy his race', I am almost fully confident, meant 'keep him behind you and hold him up', not 'drive into him at the soonest opportunity'. Even if the FIA thought it could be the latter they'd have a tough time proving it.

EDIT: having read back through my posts about this, I do come across as very anti-Hamilton and I should point out that's not my point of view at all: I think Lewis is great, and I love the excitement his driving brings to the table. I do, however, think this year he's made some mistakes and although the FIA have been harsh on occasion, he has deserved a good percentage of the penalties to my mind. One that stands out as particularly stupid however was the one in Malaysia where he and Alonso got penalised for racing,.

I genuinely hope next year he comes back refreshed and starts doing the kinds of things that have had me off my sofa cheering him on in the past. I also think that a lot of his seeming problems this year have been created by the pressure of having a team mate in the form of his life. Jenson's getting the job done and all the time smiling and seeming at ease with life in general. Must be a bit daunting to face each weekend at the moment.

The Hamilton fanboys have whipped themselves into an out of proportion foaming frenzy of fury over this. Whole sections of the interwebs have turned blue. So expect this to boil over into something from the BBC commentary team this weekend.

Meanwhile the real big issue of the season, are there enough races left for Force India to get ahead of Renault in the constructors championship? They need to score 23 more points.

Also big news. Mercedes have made two big money design signings, Aldo Costa and Geoff Willis. Not quite getting Newey but still interesting.

Brundle has already dismissed the idea on Twitter.

Ferrari engineer Smedley's comment to Massa was to wreck Hamilton's strategy, not his car. Why would Massa damage his own car intentionally?

Real story is Smedley must constantly direct + motivate his driver, has done for some time. Felipe hasn't been so strong since Hungary smash

Willis has had 2 years at HRT and not managed to polish that turd. But you never now, there is certainly far more money at Mercedes and they have a pretty impressive roster of talent now.

They're ahead of Virgin fairly constantly now. That's not bad for a 2 year old car they didn't originally design.

Yeah, came in here to post about this... could well be very significant for all future Sky Sports deals...

Cant see it making any difference to the end user, you have always been able to point a dish to a foreign owned satellite and if you have their card watch whatever you pay for?

All it really does is stop Sky having t&c's that stop you getting Sky UK in Italy and vice versa and its always been a grey area so resolves it.

Does it not mean that pubs can subscribe to foreign providers for football/F1? i.e - They won't pay Sky's massively inflated rates for pubs and Sky won'y have the budget they sued to have to buy the content?

EDIT : Off topic for this thread but doesn't it also mean 3pm saturday games in the pub?

That's exactly what it means.
