The Formula 1 Thread

Definitely hope that's true, as the general perception that people were starting to get was that it was all over for him. I even heard that during the Belgian Grand Prix Mika Salo said on Finnish telly that he'd spoken to someone at Renault and they had been pretty much informed he'd never drive an F1 car again.

This news is more promising - fingers crossed!

Hope it's true (ie - in 2012) but I have my doubts.

The bit that most got my attention:

:)

I hope its true too, but...

The truth at present, however, is that Kubica is not yet ready to return to a single seater, nor even drive a road car.

Doesn't really inspire confidence he'll be ready for next year.

They're trying to make open wheelers less open wheel I believe. This is because Indycar drivers can't drive and keep running over each others wheels.

I've watched a couple of races this year and it truly has been shocking stuff. The consistency of the stewarding makes F1's penalties look solid gold, and the drivers just forget to engage their brains every other lap.

The Toronto race actually made me angry, it was that bad.

Alguersuari tops iTunes album chart!

Jaime Alguersuari's debut album, Organic Life, has gone to number one on iTunes just five days after being released.

The Spaniard, who often DJs at Ibiza under the name 'DJ Squire' during time off from Formula 1, recorded the album at his Barcelona studio. It was released by the famous Blanco y Negro record label, and has now moved to the number one spot in the Top Electronic Albums Chart on iTunes. "I have been working in the studio on lots of tracks and different things. I am bringing it to the market now because I feel it is time to do so," explained Alguersuari. "It is classic house, the sound of Detroit/Chicago house, and the classic sound from Detroit - but a bit more organic to make it sound a bit easier on everyone's ears as my kind of music is more underground/techno. "I will do an album later on, I need to keep on working on a couple of things – and later on I will do something really cool!"

I know, it was supposed to be but hopefully didn't descend into trollage. Financial constraints being what they are, not everyone can afford it (and it is expensive) but anyone who can afford it and loves sport and is just hoping that one day their allegiance to the beeb will be paid back... well, them getting the F1 for a couple of years is probably the high point sadly.

Sky has the Premiership, Super League+Aviva Prem+Heineken cup, most of the cricket, F1 now, Australian Open, not sure about US Open, (they'll never get Wimbledon thankfully), all the big golf events, half the Champions League, all the big boxing events, NFL I think? Who shows Indy Car? One of the open sat channels?

I guarantee they will snap up the cycling if the TdF gets to over 1million viewers. It's about half that now and growing. says here nearly a million watched the final stage and that it was 33% up on the year on average.

You can choose to cut off your nose to spite your face, but they do a damn good job on most of it too.

Anyway, maybe not the right thread for it.
