Adverts are not the issue here.

I don't have sky and will never have sky. This was all I watch on tv, and now that's not even a justified yearly expense.

I am simply not paying £600 a year to Murdoch to watch F1.

I might catch the odd BBC race, but I'm with marsh; I'm looking into starting racing myself, even if it's just damn go karts. This gave me the nudge.

Extremely. Given the insane cost of the sport, plus the obvious cost of making all those tires, it's ridiculous that they can justify such wastage.

It's the cost of making them that's part of the reason they destroy them. Think it was a guy from Pirelli or one of the commentators in a recent practice session saying because they put so much R&D into them they can't risk other tyre manufactures getting hold of them, they could use them to make their own tyre on the cheap to compete with.

I've read that FOM did some tests with 3D and it wasn't very impressive for F1.

FWIW a mate of mine does Karting, costs him between 6-10k a year depending on engine rebuilds and buying new karts repairs etc thats in 100cc as i recall, i imagine you can maybe do it for less in a lower competitive level but one thing its not is a cheap - well relative to other forms of racing it is cheap. I follow a chap doing the MX5 challenge and after initial setup costs of 10k its costing approx £800 per race and thats considered one of the cheapest forms of 'car' racing.

You need to quit this whining about ads in live sport, simply put Sky do not cut to adverts during live sport - not that difficult to grasp is it. If you want an example take a test match, during the entire 5 days they do not cut to an advert during the live action

The "problem" with that comparison is that Cricket has a lot of down time, and they do actually show ads during a game but the game allows them to show a quick 15second advert because of the slow pace. Sky are showing a test game right now and they cut to an ad during it.

They won't for sports with more action like F1, but they certainly do cut to ads in Cricket. They just don't do it for 5 minutes and do it very quickly instead. (sponsors ?)

Indeed, i watch a lot of cricket and they are very clever when they slip an advert in - my point still stands, during live action they never cut to an advert. I know its not the best comparison but neither is dudley going on about snooker

The easiest way if you can access Milton Keynes is InKart. 13hp, 75mph karts on a near mile outdoor track. Last Sunday of every month. 10 min practice, 3 20 minute races, £50.

That's what I was referencing when I said I could do a season for the price of Sky. Obviously work up levels from that it gets expensive.

We're also looking into entering a 24hr race in an 85mph DMAX kart for £1800 per team, which is still pretty affordable with a team of 6.

When in the fuck did I mention Snooker?

EDIT : Oh the Masters? I meant Golf.
