The Formula 1 Thread

ah well, thats the trouble as i'd not watched F1 for years prior to this years Monaco. I never understood it to be terrible though, even during the intervening time. It always seems popular, and boring races aren't popular (see a few races ago - Montreal?)

Monaco has the novelty factor of the unique location working in its favour but past races have usually been rather processional thanks to the nature of the track.

I don't think they expected the reaction to be so strong. They were definitely saying highlights earlier.

I pointed this out earlier. This morning it was "highlights", lunch time it was "extended highlights" now its "delayed showings", the whole announcements a mess, either because they're backtracking or (as has been alluded to in the BBC's own articles about it) everything hasn't been decided yet.

I used to love watching the Rally on C4.. then it moved to ITV and they fucked it up royally.

The last I heard it's now on Dave. Formula 1, welcome to your future.

Not Dave, ESPN, and I couldn't even tell you who's in it anymore.... :coffee:

I genuinely thought a game like that would get higher figures than F1 even despite being on pay TV.

Football would be an odd one to measure like that, as pub watching must add to the figures given. Football tends to be communial thing to watch for many, so plenty of lads around at one persons house for a big game etc.

I don't think there's any reason to believe that they would do that. Pre and Post race for sure. I'd bet that you'll get a break just before the feed cuts to the FOM setup and then one after the anthem (They seem to have that down to a pretty quick setup now... win, weigh in, anthem, champagne)

They treat the other sports fairly, so I can't see them turning on F1.

I got back into F1 during 2009 because of the BBC's absolutely marvelous coverage (well...and the fact Schumacher was gone  )

...was _this_ close to buying a satellite dish just to enjoy BBC One HD's FTA coverage - so that I could follow it in the best way possible over here in Belgium. I'm gutted, really. Not gonna watch it interspersed with ads & idiotic commentary in my native language <_<

Let's hope the English, Canadian, Belgian, Italian, Brazilian GP make it in real-BBC-time-coverage...

Is Anthony Hamilton still toying with his idea of a rival series? He's slightly less unlikable than Bernie/Murdoch.

Also, what's the story behind Tamara E's cosy relationship with Sky/News Corp? They've been building her profile over the last few months...

Anyway, it's back to the BTCC for me (and fingers crossed this provokes ITV to push ITV4HD onto the Virgin platform at the very least)

The BBC will show these extended highlights in a 5pm or 6pm slot on Sunday night, which is prime time TV, hence the assumption by Ecclestone that the casual viewer will be caught up and in this way the audience may grow.

The extent of the collaboration between BBC and Sky on the production of the coverage is also becoming clearer. The commentary will be shared between both programmes, but the presentation teams will be different. The BBC is likely to have limited presentation as they will want to get quickly into the race highlights action at the start of the show and then there will be some analysis afterwards.

However the on site facilities will be shared, so rather than having two trucks, they will share edit equipment and production facilities. This will mean a major saving for both sides.

Well at least shared commentary is something, this whole situation is very confusing.

Martin Brindle on Twitter is saying don't expect them to talk about it much this weekend:

n answer to many tweets no you won't hear much from us re future TV deals this w/end. Our job is to tell F1 story, not talk about ourselves

Share the info, we could spread the idea around and give them some ideas of what to say to Bernie next time they see him.

info@teamsassociation.org

I kept mine polite in the vain hope that somebody might read it. :coffee:
