Excellent - can't wait. How many season left two?

Kinda one-and-a-half. I think there're 16 or 18 episodes left to be made / screened. There's an earlier topic about it somewhere.

Any news on when E4 / Ch4 will be showing it? I'm tempted by the torrents but can't be arsed with the faffing about.

Newsgroups are the answer.

Newsgroups are the answer.

Partly - but it still involves lengthy downloads and then the choice of either watching it in my office on the PC, or burning it onto a DVD to watch downstairs - which is the part I can't be arsed to do (due mainly to never having the spare time).

This will be the first season I'll have the chance to watch as it airs - I came to the Sopranos after S4 and as such have watched all the rest on the DVD boxsets.

If I've bared watched the Sopranos, like ever (It always used to be on while I was working), would I still be able to pick this up from the off you reckon?

Didnt it "go soft" a little in recent seasons, less violence etc?

I'd watch it properly from the start. You'd be able to pick it up but without knowing the characters inside out you might not enjoy it quite so much, and it would spoil some plot points from earlier seasons. It deserves to be savoured, rather than catching an episode here and there. I haven't noticed it getting any less violent. For my money, Seasons 1 and 2 were the Sopranos at its best (the story arcs were stronger, and in S1 in particular the writer was getting some of his own family issues of his chest), but the later seasons certainly have their moments.

yeah you should watch it from the start, the characters just become etched in your mind, or something, after 5 seasons and you'll enjoy how they react to things more. the show isn't really heavy on the violence anyway, it's the characters that make it.

As an aside, why the fuck did I type BARED instead of barely?!

Thanks for that. Maybe I'll wait until Lost/24 come to an end and start on this from the start then.

The thing that makes the Soprano's for me is the sense of menace that hangs in the air. You know that when Tony is on screen things can blow up at any second, and incredibly violent acts can happen in a heartbeat. Yet despite this, it's always incredibly shocking when something does happen. For me, this feeling is really critical to my enjoyment of the Sopranos, and I only felt that way after watching it from the start.

So, in a very round-about way, watch it from the start ;)

Indeed the switch from tenderness and family relationships we can all relate with, to indiscriminate violence and threat is what makes the series so great. ;)

Just because I like to plug it all the time, if you like this type of thing, watch Deadwood. If anything its even more slow moving than Sopranos, but damn is it good.
