Beertiger
My only critisism of it, is that it's not very " Next Gen " at all. fun, if nothing else. The enviroments look a lot better as does the detail in the buildings. I suppose it depends what's going on in the background. Like you get all the people bitching about how Full Auto isn't next gen when there's so much going on it would break the xbox or Dead Rising looking like shit because there's hundreds of detailed characters on screen but not mega detailed. It's all about what's going on, not how pretty it is. You're right. Next gen doesn't necessarily mean prettier. The Outfit has so much going on it's crazy. In a 4v4 match just take a minute to run out to one of the sides and survey the battlefield. there is plane, tanks, cannons all over, flames, buildings being destroyed and god knows how many units on the battlefield. Monkeyboy
Average at best, to be honest. It's just not that impressive. It feels and looks very last gen. On the screen where you select your hero and your spawn point, I was amazed by the quite hideous popup of the trees as the camera panned around the game area. After this intital shock, I plunged into the game and was left feeling underwhelmed. I'm not a massive fan of squad based shooters, Freedom Fighters being the only one I've ever got along with, but The Outfit on first impressions doesn't even seem as good as that. You could get into some exhilerating firefights in Freedom Fighters on the harder difficulty settings but the battles in The Outfit just didn't feel very meaty at all, almost too light with not enough impact. A mistake surely, if Relic were aiming for an OTT WW2 shooter. It's great how you die if you walk into a river. You have to see it to believe it. You're a hard as nails soldier but barely have to walk into a river up to your knees and you drown instantly. It's comical. However, the controls weren't as complicated as I feared having seen screenshots and seemed to work quite smoothly. Calling in extra equipment and supplies and whatnot from the air seemed very similar to Mercernaries. I know it's only a demo and these are first impressions but on this evidence, I don't think I'll be plonking the readies down for this game. There just seems to be a certain something missing. Spunky Monkey
What a brilliant demo, i didnt know what the hell was going on but i can see this game being a LOT of fun online when you have a team of you knowing what your doing. It also doesnt seem unfair unlike lots of other online games because its all about tactics, timing and a bit of luck rather than just getting the uber weapon and using it all the time. Anyone fancy some multiplayer of this later cos it does seem bloody fantastic! Might even buy the game when its out if a few of you guys do too. Pochacco
Played this with Spunkey Monkey and Peve yesterday - personally I wasn't too taken with it - it's fun for a while but I wouldn't fork out for the full version. Reminds me of Battalion Wars actually in the style but BW is a much better game 4v4 was lag-tastic - sad really as this reduced it to a A button mashing 'quick get your stupid weapon in the air and fire' scenario every 2 seconds. 2v2 was a lot smoother but still some lag evident. Good fun for a while but the novelty soon wears off. Oh and driving a tank isn't my strongest point - I can't recall how many times I backed into a pond and died

Beertiger
Why would they be unreasonable? I'm sure the inevitable PS3 version will get 50/10 from those Sony loving krauts. I think the Edge review got it spot on and they're usually so far off the ball but it seems like they actually played the game this time.
ralphwolf
Well, what's wrong with the Eurogamer review is that they reviewed the single player mode (a virtual afterthought) of what is basically an online multiplayer game (from a quality devleoper that specialises in RTS games no less). Only, the reviewer never bothered playing the online game. That's the beauty of Xbox Live gamer cards - they don't lie... http://live.xbox.com/member/Krudster They did the same to Conker: Live and Reloaded, reviewing the N64 re-make instead of the actual 'game' All this from the man who scored Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath a 7/10 (instead of the clear 9/10 we know it is) without actually getting to the twist

Checking tags only works if you know for sure that the reviewer had a single retail copy and always played with his own tag, regardless of system. For example: I did a Ridge Racer 6 review, yet I had to play as review copy on a debug so R6 doesn't show up in my tags at all as I had to use a 'common' tag for that. People could assault me on the basis I never even played the game, which is still nonsense. Tags don't lie, but they don't reflect the entire 100% as well. Mr Spew
I really doubt he used a separate Gamertag looking at the time of the achievements and the fact it's Eurogamer.
Spunky Monkey
So a bit of info from me. Single player seems pretty fun. There seems to be replayability in the missions too, not just the standard difficulty settings but lots of achievements and 'missions'. For example you may have to shoot down 5 planes or protect x amount of paratroopers. Graphically, its rather gruesome in cutscenes and it looks a lot better and more detailed up close. The first level is a nice introduction to the game without being a strict tutorial level. It guides you in and gives you tips but lets you do what ever you want. Online, only had one go as i knew what to expect and other maps seem good. Nice to see a co-op mode in there too, online too it is!

therev
Well, I've got the full version now. Single player seems okay. Nothing inspiring in the first couple of missions, but it's quite good fun. Really got it for the multiplayer, though. So I've tried it online. First four matches I tried to play all ended in immediate disconnections after loading. They were all against the same player. As soon as I got matched with somebody else everything was fine. Except I seem to be rubbish. I was good the demo, but I guess I was playing against people who didn't know what they were doing. Everybody online with the full game does know what they're doing. And they're better than me. Mainly, it seems, because they know how to do two things I don't. 1) Do a melee attack. 2) Destroy any gun emplacements I build within seconds of them being built. Number one can probably be sorted out by me opening the manual. Number two might take some doing. First I need to work out how they're destroying my guns so quickly and then I've got to do it myself. Spunky Monkey
Hey Rev, i'll add you to my friends list later if you fancy a few online games. If im honest, this is the first online xbox live game ive actually enjoyed by playing with randoms. Halo 2 is rather souless or annoying when playing with randoms, PGR2/3 was sorta alright if ultimately a bit dull with no banter going on and so on. but with this, no one calls you a fag, theres some real tactics going on and people seem to work together. Ive played a bit more single player and the missions have a nice range of set pieces and 'here have this new tank/weapon' bits which are top fun and a real nice change. For example in the second mission you have a train rushing towards you with troops, blow it up early and you unlock an achievement. you can then nick it and run it around the level smashing into tanks and such. Online again, is great, ive played about 5 of the 12 maps now and so far they all seem very fair to both sides and lots of fun with lots of tactics and hiding places and so on. Really well done especially as most multiplayer maps can be one sided to a certain team, here though, even though the maps are not symetrical they feel balanced. Even more so as you dont really have a 'base' as such and cant be pinned into a corner as the bases are constantly moving and swapping between each side. The multipler follows the excellent Halo 2 with a match making system but also lets you host open and private lobbies, so you'll never be without a game, add into this an online co-op mode plus future downloadables in the future this is a win. Its a shame more of you who liked the demo havent bought it, because as you know its top fun! If there is a downer its some of the presentation, for example when you win a match online, it just ends at a static victory/defeat screen rather than fading away or telling you you won before this screen. Bit jarring.

Beertiger
but that means they'd have never made the amazing Dawn of War. The Outfit is almost there, hopefully a sequel will sort out the issues.
