We've lucked out with a lot of results going our way during this poor patch as well. Only really West Brom (!) have kicked on and kept chalking up good results. Arsenal, Chelsea, United, City and Everton have all dropped points lately. 11 points off the top isn't an awful place to be.

If Dembele needs an op then perhaps the plan is to get him back to last until the end of January and sign some proper cover? Huddlestone is a decent player, he has something to offer - but it's Plan B not Plan AVB (hahaha). I know Moutinho is out of reach (if he ever truly was in reach) now, but we need to look at another highly mobile playmaker who can replace Dembele while he's injured and compliment him when he's fit. Is Pjanic still fed up at Roma? Hopefully we'll go back in for Willian as well as he looked excellent against Chelsea (who cares if he wants to play for them). Actually what's happened to Parker?

It was a good day for me as well.

Sounds like West Ham just didn't really show up, but a win is a win. Important to get the momentum back, the weekend's results favoured us again with Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Fulham and Everton all dropping points. Only the juggernaut of West Brom are keeping their distance.

Good week for Spurs, Liverpool penned us in once we showed them how to actually score for them but prior to that Spurs looked like they could score at will against Liverpool.

We should have gone for it and finished them and not tried to hang in, against anyone with an ability to score we woulda be in a lot more trouble one feels.

But 6 points from a couple of potentially tricky home games is welcome :D

Team's around us continuing to drop points, just 3 off Chelsea and West Brom now.

There is clearly an issue with holding on to good leads. Not sure why, I'm inclined to say AVB wants the team to continue attacking but sometimes his substitutions go against that. Hmm. Every win scraped now though is 3 points in the bank for when things really start to click and the team can put a run together. Remember away games against United, City and Arsenal are out of the way, there are no major road bumps left this season.

I think we are seeing some fatigue issues creeping in a bit, specifically with Sandro as he's played a lot of football in 2012 and really could do with some rest. Livermore must be near back to full fitness after his niggling injury and Parker will be back soon too so that shouldn't be as much of a problem. With Kabs and BAE to return too as well as naughty Manu we're in good shape, just hope Dembele's hip is OK.

I don't think it was poor Charlie, lacking a bit more invention in the final third yes (as it has been all season) but in control for long periods of the match and the players looked pretty calm and comfortable out there. The best part of today was seeing such a positive contribution from the other parts of the squad; Naughton was solid, Gallas looked better today, Siggi produced a fantastic shimmy and pass for JD's first and Carroll came on and helped us close it out. With Ade back next match, Parker close, Kaboul and Benny surely near too things are starting to come along quite well.

The injuries were a worry, hopefully the subs were mainly precautionary. Damn cold today!

Hurray through to the knockouts in the Europa League then. I still fancy winning it, and looking about I think finishing runner's up is the preferable way to progress, avoiding the likes of Inter, Atletico and Napoli. Instead just posing the challenge of joke teams who finished third in the group stages, around the level of Chelsea.

Both goals came down the right which is the flank we're missing players on so hardly surprising they found success there. Need Bale and BAE back ASAP.

AVB also has continued making rubbish defensive switches near the end of games. Either we keep going for more goals and pen the opposition back or we stop subbing pacey widemen for slow central players. It ruins the shape and then defending is just a crapshoot. We've conceded more late goals than any other team now, it needs to be addressed.

No posts over Christmas?

Not sure why, it's been a great month for Spurs. Six wins in the last eight, just one defeat. Up to 4th at time of writing, albeit with Arsenal breathing down our necks with a game in hand and superior goal difference.

Also rumours of Sneijder signing in January. Exciting stuff although knowing his temperament and AVB's man management being akin to an android's he might not be such a good fit, especially as we're well stocked with new signings in his position anyway. I actually like the team at the moment anyway, Dempsey was improving before his injury and Gylfi is looking better off the bench - don't tell anyone but I always thought VDV was a better player than Sneijder anyway.

I think the biggest impact has actually been getting Parker back, as it means when AVB looks to take off a tiring Dembele he can bring on someone capable of fulfilling the same role and not relying on Huddlestone who slows the pace down considerably and forces the team to drop deep.

Also Lloris is super sexy and super good, and Friedel has signed a new contract proving he is happy to drop down the order. Win win.

I meant to post but each time I come in this folder I'm drawn to the Liverpool rollercoaster thread, the doom and then glory results depending makes for fascinating reading!

Great set of results and you have to say AVB has changed the resilience of the team whilst keeping the attacking play goings. I think he had done a cracking job given the players we lost and the injuries we have had - I saw a stat that puts his win ratio ahead of any recent manager we have had.

I think if we get Sneijder/Moutinho and a striker like Huntelaar, we'll be completely set for the season. That'll be enough depth for a definite top 4 finish, maybe even top 3.

Saying that, if we fail to sign anyone this month, I'm pretty happy with the squad now we're at almost full strength. Ever since Parker came back we haven't conceded late on, which was our downfall all season.

If we can sign a proper play maker then we will easily finish in the top 4.

Sandro and Dembele are quickly turning into the best midfield partnership in the league, it must be horrible playing against them as they are both so damn strong and physical with the skills to back it up.

Great festive period, things look to be coming together nicely and the squad is nearing full strength again. Although signing a proper conjurer of an AM would be nice with Dempsey finding his feet more and producing some lovely stuff when he does it is less needed than it was, if Siggy is going to occupy the "left" more often than centrally then maybe try to get in someone young-ish and talented who can be developed but relatively quickly. I see there are rumours of Holtby from Schalke who seems to fit that billing, anyone seen him play much? Still a little concerned about up top but hopefully Ade breaking his goalless streak will aid that, he is far better than he's shown so far but the disrupted start and then the red at Arsenal did not help at all.

Pretty good so far for a transitional season, eh?
