I've read all (so far scanlated) of Knights of Sidonia over the last couple of days. Quite enjoyable, good art and suitibly wacky. Same insane shifts in tone that I love in manga, people fighting for their lives then acting like complete children in the same issue and now a moe girl character in what is broadly a big cock attached to a monster.

80 chapters to go in Gantz.

So far so good - multiple twists, ludicrous story, sky gone red, end of the world, two of the main character/love interest, mass-produced death/teleportation machines, the future.

Awesome.

[edit]

Two more chapters in: wtf town

Well that escalated quickly.

Having an "end boss" is a little disappointing but with no prior knowledge you would have no idea that things were ever going to end up that way when you start reading.

The ending is a little too abrupt though, and to be fair the the whole thing takes a bit of a nosedive towards the end with a ton of fight scenes, a ton of Kei looking for Tae and Tae looking for Kei, and not a huge amount of plot development. I would have liked to have seen more character development for characters other than Kei too - Cherry and Reika especially, as two characters who have a different past to the majority of the other characters rather than "just" being dead.

Started reading Attack On Titan after catching up with Toriko.

I'm really liking what i have read so far, best bits so far IMO:-

I've just got upto the bit where they have the female trapped and it's got loose again and they are now certain someone is piloting the titan.

It's pretty fucking tense working out who it could be or if it is a complete new character out there causing havoc.

Nicely written and tense made me think of John Carpenter's "The Thing" not knowing who it is and if they even know who it is!

Funny, I watched the anime on Saturday and then read the manga up to chapter 47 on Sunday.

It's very very very good, the story just keeps getting better and better..

Mangatraders have volume-packs, if anyone is interested :)

Gantz ending spoiler

Kurono and the long-haired guy from the start of the story crash-land in the sea after fleeing the alien space station thing. There is suggestion that they die after crashlanding - they are alive in the sea but there are a few details that could suggest that they imagine being greeted on the shore as their dying memory.

Either way it definitely took a serious nosedive, which is a shame as to begin with it was genuinely excellent.

[edit] As an aside, the forum can't always deal with a spoiler tag in a quote and then a spoiler tag outside of a quote. It kept deleting some of the tags whenever I clicked "submit" and leaving my spoiler fully-tagged (when you look at the bbcode) but not being hidden from view in the normal browsing view. Bizarre.

I re-read Domu: A Childs Dream last week, it's so deliciously creepy. One of my favourite comics ever.

I'm reading Aku No Hana (The Flowers of Evil) at the moment. Bookish, introverted teenager gets blackmailed by a crazy girl after she witnesses him stealing another girl's gym shorts (dirty wee bastard). She wants to help him understand his true perverted nature. The setup sounds like typical manga porn, to be honest, but it's much better than that, very twisty and psychological well worth a read.

edit: holy shit, I just noticed that this manga was adapted into that anime with all the weird rotoscoped mongfaces that 4chan was up in arms about earlier in the year.

Gantz has finished. It just kinda stopped after a fight that wasn't as exciting as many of the fights that preceded it. Still, it was a great ride getting there. The final chapter was mind-warpingly bonkers.

Glad I read almost all of it in massive sessions as waiting to read the final few editions really hampered the flow.

Bye bye Gantz.

reading Eden: It's an Endless World, I like how staggeringly violent it is, and how pretty much nobody is safe from a brutal cyborgy/landminey death, and how it jumps from genre to genre every time the author presumably got a bit bored.

Edit fucking hell!

I can't believe after like 3 volumes devoted to her rescue they blew his little sister's head off, that's some brutal shit right there

edit:

And now I'm finished, quite a Grant Morrison'y ending. Fantastic series.
