Renting Games By Mail

The Boomerang website really is terrible. Just been trying to find Full Auto and it is all over the shop. Turns out it isn't listed anyway - grrrrr. Just returned my first game to them so it'll be interesting to see how quickly they turn around the next one.

The turnaround has been about 24 hours for me. From the time they receive it I mean - they sent a game out the next day.

I've just sent both my current games back this morning (Kameo & PD0). So presumably they'll arrive tomorrow, two new games sent out on Wed, arrive Thurs.

I joined on Friday morning and received my first game Saturday morning. I posted that back the following Monday and the next game (top of my list) arrived Wednesday morning. The service is very good as long as they have at least one of the games that you want in stock.

Cool - which package did you go for? I am on the free trial at the moment and am tempted by the Unlimited 2.

Well since my initial "problems" with Boomerang it's all gone swimmingly for the last fortnight. I currently have Ridge Racer 6 on loan from them, and have no intentions of sending it back for another week or so.

One quick question though, my trial finished today, and I am signed up for the 2 games unlimited package. Does anyone know if they automatically send out another game now, or will I have to return RR6 first?

I signed up on Wednesday when I ordered my 360 and on Friday I received my first game from them (Arrived the same day as my 360, which was handy). It was the 3rd one down the list, Condemned. The disc was in good condition too. When I've played it a bit (Currently I'm hooked on PGR3, which I bought) I'll see how quickly they send me another game. I'm currently on the 21 day free trial.

I am guessing from John's comments that they will send another game out straight away. Might be worth dropping them an e-mail though.

Thought I might spill my load into this thread - I've just started using Gametart and Swapgame and they're both servicing my needs well.

Gametart allows me to specify 10 games, and put one of those 'on hold' so that I get first dibs. Swapgame seems to let me choose as many games as I like, and order them in 'wantability'.

Both have delivered next-day so far, so thumbs up to both!

Well, I returned FIFA to Boomerang on Monday, got e-mails on Wednesday confirming that they had received FIFA and had despatched Gun on Wednesday and it arrived yesterday. Very impressed.

Same here.

Posted Kameo & PDO on Monday. Games reached them on Wed, Gun & RR6 sent the same day, arrived yesterday.

They seem to take longer to get there than they do to reach me. It's like they sit on the games for a day before acknowledging the return. Still a pretty quick turnaround.

Think I'll sign up for this today. One question though, are the games sent out registered post? If I'm not there to receive the item will I have to pop to the sorting office? If so I'll just specify my work address for delivery.

Thanks.

nope they just stick them in your slot. no questions, usually in a card sleave inside two poly envelopes so they fit through your letter box. nice and easy like.

I (very happily) sent DOA4 back to Swapgame yesterday and got two e-mails this morning confirming they had it and had sent out NBA Live (though RR6 and COD2 were both above it in my list, so I'm a little miffed), so I'm hoping to get it tomorrow.

Swapgame have regressed from a decent and efficient company into one run by monkeys. And not even the 'clever' type of monkey at that.

Also, the amount of games getting lost on return recently is alarming. I'm not sure if it is because of this - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4700190.stm - or whether they are getting lost at Swapgame.

Either way, they still haven't replied to my email I sent three days ago about a missing game, nor have they taken action to remove the game from my account so that the renting process can continue even though that is their standard practice. So I'm still paying for a 'two game service' whilst only getting the benefits of one game at a time.

Remember kids; the Certificate of Posting is your friend.

It may be time to switch.

I've given up with Swapgame. They don't seem to reply to emails and they never have anything in stock.

My experience with them has been absolutely top notch so far, though I just got NBA Live when both RR6 and COD2 were above it in my list, so I'm presuming they don't have either of those. I hope stuff like that doesn't continue, though I guess it's nice to know there's Boomerang to fall back on if things get bad.

I haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if this has been mentioned before, but these online things don't work. You never get the new releases as there is such high demand, yet you have to keep stock of a certain number of titles, so you end up putting crap on the list, getting sent crap and playing/watching crap.

I did the DVD thing for over a year and watched so much crap, I couldn't sit down and watch a movie for ages after I cancelled. That was five months after Sin City had been released and still hadn't been posted.

I'd hate for that to happen with games. Play too much crap and eventually it becomes hard to differentiate. Best to chose wisely and make a purchase in my opinion.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been a member of swapgame for about 6 months and am considering cancelling, I just don't think I'm getting the value out of it. Also annoying was that after I bought a 360 I filled up the first 10 spaces on my list with 360 games and got sent out an original xbox game... sigh. The turnaround is at least a couple of days slower than with tesco dvd rental as well.

I've found that the concept doesn't work as well with games as with films, as on my film service I'm not bothered about renting new releases as I go to the cinema on a regular basis, and so my list is full of films that I missed at the cinema, classics, foreign language films. With games however, they have such short shelf lives that there isn't such a wide choice and you end up filling some slots with games you don't really want to play anyway.

Boomerang are excellent, so far I have got either my first or second choice and each game has been recieved the next day and then sent out that same day so 3 day turn around for me so im impressed.

The only flaw I can think to the service from a business point of view is obviously you need proof of postage when you send it back so it stops people keeping them, but what stops people from claiming that they never arrived and bagging a free game?

I haven't got Proof of Postage when returning mine. I am guessing they'd forgive the one off but would start to get suspicious if lots of discs go missing from one person.

I continue to be impressed with Boomerang other than the website being a bit crap.

My thoughts exactly! I did actually email them to point out particular faults but it doesn't look as if anything has been done so far. I did get a quick responce from them though, so hopefully they have someone working on it.

The service so far I've found to be very good, the first title they sent me was my fourth choice but since then it's been my first choices from then on. Once I send a title back it is acknowledged the next day, with the next title being sent that day and me recieving it the following morning. All game discs have arrived in fantastic condition with not a notable scratch on any of them. One thing I'm slightly worried about though, is the cheap cardboard sleeve the games come in. They are the discs only protection and there is an edge exposed on one side, no disc I've recieved so far has been damaged from this, that exposed edge really doesn't fill you with great confidence that you'll recieve the next one in good nick though.

No problems with swapgame here, annd ive been using them since the summer :o

A couple of times its taken a couple of days for them to get something in,(bearing in mind i usually have 3-7 games on my list and they recommend 10+) but it's hardly uncommon for this to happen occasionally - especially with games. people don't seem to realise that these companies dont have 1000's of copies of each game :D

When they do have something for me it always comes next day with one sole exception - and that was probably just Royal mail
