We test the convenience of the Internet by sending one couple out around the town to find a TV and a bunch of other shit and another couple to sit in front of a computer and buy it all online. Which will be cheaper and less time consuming!

The Internet.

Tomorrow on ITV News with Trevor McDonald: which is more life-threatening: cancer or the common cold?

ITV = chav TV.

Simple equation.

Aaah, but they're getting a new 'upmarket' identity from Monday*, so there.

The same old shite programmes, but the five second intro into each show will be a bit nicer, thus somehow making us all watch The Worst Celebrity Haircuts Ever With Kate Thornton And Steve Penk.

(*Just like the identity of ITV4, but with a '1'.)

Eating?  In a lab?  I'd fire you for that.  If I could.

We have a special sweety and chocolate drawer. Even the lab managers give us treats. I love the way the seniors kick off at us for eating in the lab, then two minutes later they are over come with desire to also scoff something from the sweety drawer. Fucking hypocrits the lot of 'em.

Yesterday Gemma had to delicatley place a chocolate truffle in my mouth for me as I was doing special stains and had mucky carbol fuchsin gloves on!! It was a tender moment I thought.

Did you then go and play the "hopping game", wearing that hat I bought you?

Having said that though, I was surprised that the difference between the two totals was *only* £800, after each group spent ~£14000. I was expecting it to be much greater!

ITV news is the poorest excuse for a news bulletin i have ever seen - it's almost on a par with Sky. i occasionally watch it just to see the presenters and their 'serious' news faces. the look of fake concern as they inform the punters of some granny who was mugged and how it suddenly indicates the downfall of western civilisation.

and their 'Consumer Affairs' correspondent is a twat - wonder if we'll ever see him doing a piece comparing the prices of dildos and poppers for sale in and around Old Compton St.

You're lucky... but it won't be long before Granada/Carlton/ITV/whatever buys you out too.

I've heard it being said by people who know more about such things that it would be quite complicated for ITV to buy out UTV these days. UTV have fingers in lots of pies (TV, 25 radio stations, phone, Internet and other things).

They already have. Carlton and Granada merged last year. ITV is one entity - including Ulster.

Not quite true. They are only part owned by ITV. They are officially owned by Ulster Television Plc. They and Channel (for the Channel Islands) are the only 2 remaining stand alone contractors for ITV plc. They are the NI licence holder for Channel 3 (ie. ITV), but that does not mean they are part of ITV plc.

ITV plc do own all the England and Wales regions. SMG plc own Grampian and Scottish TV. UTV plc own UTV. Channel TV Ltd. own Channel. So they are not yet all one group. 2 groups and 2 independent companies.

ITV may be about to gain another feather though. They currently own 45% of TV3 in Ireland. Today, CanWest announced they are selling their own 45% stake. Whatever way these things work, ITV have to be given first refusal. Many think they will take it and own 90% of TV3. They may as well. TV3 is almost ITV Ireland as it is.

ITV had a chance to buy the CanWest stake in UTV when they sold that a while ago, but they didn't for some reason.

Ahh - that was all news to me. Thank you.

I do much prefer it when they were all independent companies. It gave the channel a local USP that the Beeb didn't have. Now all ITV is 'Celebrity This' or 'Pop-Factor' that. Shame.

The new idents are a slight improvement, mind.

One hundred percent with you there. ITV News has to be the tackiest, lowest-brow news ever.

- hyping stories to stunningly-inflated proportions, with a serious face.

- completely useless, tacky graphics married with earnest reporting.

- every other ITV Evening News has a story about fat people/diets/'the nation's health'.

- Mawkish to the point of inducing vomit.

- poor coverage of disasters, with an unhealthy emphasis on the deathtoll.

Okay, so ITV News isn't the only culprit, but christ, it makes me wince that there are people out there getting their information about current affairs and the world about us from ITV!
