I thought we should have a topic making our picks of bands and singers and acts and stuff that will be big in 06. Then at the end of the year we can look back at it and award ourselves points for awesomeness. Maybe get some new bands from it and stuff too...

Anyways.

Plan B First saw this guy supporting Willy Mason back in January. He was a bit immature but perhaps being an acoustic rapper has hardened him a bit. His current stuff is awesome anyway, best british rapper I've heard in a long while.

Panic at the disco I grabbed their album after seeing them crop up on on a friends last.fm playlist. They're sweet. Sorta funky thrice. A bit My Chemical Romance maybe but more fun.

iForward Russia Saw them on MTV2 the other day. Stompy indie rock n roll type stuff. They're playing in Nottingham but it's on Valentine's Day, bastards. Being supported by the equally ace We Start Fires.

Hot Chip These have been around for a while now but have a full album out soon. Again a last.fm discovery from listening to a Broken Social Scene sound-a-like playlist. They're much more dancey than that. Should be great.

And finally, Cat Power, far too big to be on this list but with the constant Dave Grohl pimpage and an appearance I saw last week in the Daily Star I'm convinced that she's gonna ride the singer/songwriter wave and gain some genuine credibility for the mainstream movement.

Give me more!

I hope none of those are big because they're all shit. Except Cat Power.

Love Is All will probably get somewhere. And maybe The Pipettes. Also Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will get their album out over here. And You Say Party! We Say Die!

It's difficult, though. All the shit bands are getting big these days. Like the ones you mention, in fact.

Really like the You Say Party, We Say Die! album actually. Put one of their tracks on my best of 05 compilation. A little bit too similar to Le Tigre for my liking though and they should be back this year to show them up a bit.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah should be big. They need some sweet merch. I'd wear any T-Shirt with their name written on it.

I don't know what I was saying. It wasn't sarcasm. More an agreement that they're not great. I'm drunk. But I saw them live and they were loads better than the album.

All in all, I find myself agreeing with people when I'm drunk and hating people when I'm sober. This needs to stop. I need to hate people ALWAYS.

Its hard to say, and it depends on what you class as big.

I think iForward Russia will get bigger but I'm not sure about 'big' if that makes sense.

Be Your Own Pet are a good call for getting bigger, i certainly expect them to get quite a bit bigger than iForward.

The Hussys I think could get big if they got picked up on by the right people (same for most bands unfortunately).

Good Shoes have some really cool catchy tunes too.

I probably totally agree with all those. I've actually not heard Hussys yet.

I'll add Kubichek! because they're nice guys with ace music and a decent live show.

Elle Milano are really edgy indie but they've not done a proper tour or anything yet. Everything I've heard is brilliant though.

I'd also love if Bishop Allen became bigger, but it's unlikely. I'm totally hoping You Say Party! We Say Die! support PGMG to make them hooger, but they've tentativley confirmed a European tour sometime before the summer which should be HOT.

I can't see 'you say party' breaking into the mainstream. They're too different to what's popular. The closest they'll come is 'go team' style critical praise but limited sales.

Clap your hands on the other hand could really do it. Songs like heavy metal could be enjoyed by most people.

The Go! Team are playing 1000 capacity venues in Feb. I don't think that's 'limited' at all. Then again, YSPWSD aren't British.
