Ridge Racer 6.

anyone who plays a RR with an internal view isnt playing RR.

Exactly. I remember back to Ridge on PSone and it was great in external view. F-Zero is played in external view and that doesn't feel slow.

For games about being sideways it's all about the external view. It'd be fine if they created some PGR3 style virtual head movement so that the further your car was sideways the more your head looks out the side window to see where you're going.

Well the disc definitely says its Ridge Racer, and according to my friend I was chatting to on private chat I was playing Ridge Racer, so all the signs say I am infact, playing Ridge Racer.

Dam good fun it is too.

I remember the external view on the PSone being woeful, handling nothing like the bumper view. Up until that game i usually played with the external view. That game changed it all and since then have primarily used the interior cams.

[cacky]You bunch of middlecore pussies![/cacky]

Seriously if you punks are playing RR with an external view, then you're doing the game a disservice. the external cam is only there.... so people can laugh at the pussies that use it.

Then again, the RR6 ext cam is the first one in a RR game thats remotely usable. Outrun 2 is better with ext cam though, and im guessing that game was built with the ext cam in mind. RR isnt and never has.

I always use interior cams in car games apart from the Ridge Racers. Power sliding and straigthening up properly is much better using an external cam.

I use internal views for every racing game except Burnout, which is the only game where I feel you need to see your vehicle.

EDIT: No I don't, I'm lying - in the brief spell that I played Outrun 2, I used the external view. Hmm...

The external view has always been a joke in Ridge surely. Just to see the car like. Il play burnout externally but in ridge..well the cameras set back all wrong, and the car's way too stiff.

Im amazed if people play ridge externally.

You know what, this isn't very good compared to Ridge Racers.  :)

.::: Give it some time. As I said before it isn't as accessible and it requires a bit more effort, but it's still fun in the long run. I still don't get why the changed the structure like this though. It's like they were scared of themselves in comparison to PGR3.

Fuck it, here's one - why is it that in certain races, I can't charge my nitrous - at all? I've yet to see any explanation as to why, so I'll assume I'm being handicapped.

Not that it matters - I've reached 90+ races and I'm still placing first by the end of the first lap. Fuck, it's not like I'm even amazing at the game, either.

Since I'm here - what's up with the track designs? Why are they no more difficult to race on the faster your car is? There used to be a time when a significant hike in speed meant your approach to the track had to change but as far in as I am, there's still no sign of that happening.

Christ, it's a real fucking slog. Combine the flatline difficulty pitch with the sheer number of races running along it and what you have is one, big, long chore of a single player.

Some races you start with a couple of nitrous tanks but cannot build them up during the race- 'reverse charge' races or something. They're what you're on about, surely?

I've noticed those, but I'm talking about races where you've got 3/4 of a tank that never moves, at all.

Some races are marked as "reverse charge", where you start with two full nitrous bars, and can only charge while you're using it.

As far as the difficulty goes, have you been going straight over to the right, or arsing around trying to fill areas in to unlock the bonus cars and stuff?

Well, to be fair, before it overwrote my old save ( :) ) I'd started the class 3 races and it was starting to get interesting. But the tracks, visuals (lighting in particular) and music just don't seem as...pretty - which is a lot of RR's appeal for me.

Still, I'll give it more time. If only I could actually play some races online...hmm...

I got online with it for the first time last night and thought it was great.

Mind you, I already thought that it was great before then, so...I dunno.

Like I've already said in this thread, I think this is the best Ridge since Rage/Type 4, so if you don't like it three classes in, then I don't think you will eventually.

It's not great looking, is it? Man, I've a list of problems with this game that I can't even be arsed to start with.

Go on then... list them? Bare in mind the subtitle is GOTY and im inclined to go with that.

This game is AMAZING.

The more you play it, the more little things you notice. The attention to detail is second to non. The handling is refined to godliness. The nitro system is fucking A and so is the reverse nitro mechanism. The X-plorer mode is MASSIVE and the difficulty curve is perfect.

Sadly gamers no longer crave gameplay. Only "realism".

Go SUCK IT

There are a few different race types in the game, each of which have different hexagon designs to indicate what they are. I think it tells you under the name of the track if you highlight them too, or somewhere arround there at least.

Plain blue - Normal race

Turquoisy ones with two lines at the bottom - Reverse Charge (You begin with two full tanks, and can only build up more while drifting).

Thick lines at the top and bottom - No Nitrous Race (You start with less than one full tank, and can't build up any more at all).

There are one-on-one and four car races too.

As for the internal/external "true experience" issue, the original Ridge Racer only had an internal view in the arcades. The external one was added for the PS1 port, and it was rubbish. Ergo, vis-a-vis, concordantly... external sucks. :)

Bull crap. Just because it has a wacky design doesn't make it good and just because it's realistic doesn't make it shit. It's about the actual game and the visual design only enhances the feel that the game is trying to give off.

Maybe I'm blind, but there doesn't seem to be people on here complaining about RR6's (or the franchise's) lack of realism.

Quite frankly, if you're on this forum (or just someone who plays a few games in general) and don't know what to expect from them then...HUH?

This game never ENDS :o

Completed all the races that were visible when you start and more and more routes began to open, completed 1/3 of special route and ANOTHER route opens up! The races are Intense.

People keep playing once you get past the 1st 111 races (lolz) this game matures into a 14 year old thats just got a taste of jizzz and loves it!
