Ridge Racer 6.

Meh

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I was already thinking that because no one else had previously mentioned having any issues with it.  I'm going to have to try my copy on a friend's machine and see what happens.

As I said earlier in the thread, PD0's been fine and I've probably played that over longer periods than I have RR6.

My copy is fucked now, fine until a couple of days ago. Crashes on virtually every other race at the starting grid, all other games are fine - just Ridge Racer ;)

I can't leave the Time Trial mode without restarting either, it just hangs on Exit.

Fuck sakes.

I doubt a PAL copy will be any different. The gap between U.S. and PAL release suggests next to nowt was done to it besides the usual.

But you're not getting 4:3 fullstop... it's just like if you stuck a DVD in your 360 and there'd be borders for the widescreen.

You're a spazz sometimes. God of War and Devil May Cry didn't have 60hz options and you didn't get it.

DYS?

Not doing 4:3 is a problem. A fucking stupid and avoidable problem.

Well, despite this being rather leisurely, utter non-challenging and having some slightly dull and overcast (literally) tracks so far... I can't stop playing it. ;)

I do hope it has a couple more classic tracks in it aside from Rave City.

How does it fare online?

I don't understand why it's such a hassle to play it in letterbox. Your TV can't be THAT small, surely?

Because;

The borders take up a quarter of the screen

bordered 4:3 cuts off the left hand side of the picture

Setting it to widescreen on my 4:3 makes the cars look like squashed-up little buggies.

That's... wrong. So wrong. It shouldn't do that. Everything was the proper size on my 4:3. No squished things at all. Just letterboxed.

Got my pal copy this afternoon. Only played a bit of single player so far, and enjoying it (felt a bit sluggish at first, but getting to the class 2 cars seems to be helping a bit, and i imagine the higher classes help even more). Kinda reminds me of R4, visually (in terms of colour palette and overall mood, obviously). Doesn't quite match PGR3 in terms of eyeball-meltingly-awesome visuals, but, well, it's Ridge, in high-def, at 60fps, and it does just about everything you could want, visually, perfectly competently (bar the cardboard crowds on some tracks, which are frankly shocking, but only really noticable in replays).

To the people complaining about the lack of a 4:3 option, you'll just have to get used to it, i reckon. 4:3 support on the 360 will most likely be similar to widescreen support on the last-gen consoles - sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't, and when it isn't, you just have to suck it up and deal with it. Or buy a new telly (and tbh, if you're playing a 360 on an old SD set, you're doing yourself a disservice - if you can possibly afford to buy a nice new HD set, do so as soon as you can, even if it means remortgaging your granny).

And holy shit, you people are right. "Dynamic handling" apparently means "Uncontrollable piece of shit". Disappointing, really, since the first one i unlocked was the nice little lotus-seven inspired one with the funky back end. Really wanted to use it, but it seemed to want to take most corners backwards :(

Check it out next time you're online. The lobby menu's missing the first letter of every word. The world explorer is missing half the "W" in "World".

If you know how to, go into your TV's service menu and have a fiddle with the geometry (or RGB centering option, if there's one there). Sounds like it's just overscanning a bit too much on the left.

Agreed. Thing of that is, RR4 pushed the hardware. RR6 underuses it.

Without going into the whole HD debate (there's a seperate thread for that), the bottom line is that a great many people are playing their 360 on a 4:3. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if more people played their 360 on an SD 4:3 than a widescreen - HD or otherwise.

Say what you like, but at best it's wishful thinking on the part of MS. At worst it's just fucking retarded. I'll need more than a games console to convince me to move on from what I've got.

It's a completely pointless class of car.

Nope. Besides, it doesn't make the game any less fun. It's just annoying.

It's not a hassle at all, but more to the fact, why should we be submitted to it when it's nothing more than a case of lazy programming, it's not just that though, theres lots of little things that make me think that RR6 has been rushed out of the door to get it out as an obviously important Jap launch title.

He's right there, it does cut half of the "W" off and the left part of my minimap is right on the very edge of my screen making it very hard to judge those Ulitmate Charges on some tracks.

This doesn't mean I don't absolutly love the game to death, don't get me wrong it's an incredible game that I'll definatly stick out and complete, however long the single player is, it's just a shame there's these few annoying little points.

I just unlocked one of the special cars and it's proper fucking fast.

The single player's finally getting tricky now, which is what I've been waiting for.

The reverse tracks are much more visually appealing too - it seems as though all the interesting trackside detail's been obscured thus far.

So yeah, back to single player I go - I want more specials.

Wrong. The difficulty level goes completely vertical after a certain period of time.

Yup. The curve becomes a wall. It gets quite fucking ridiculous, and unfair. Didn't stop me beating people who've done the lot, though. Fnar.

From what I've played so far I meant, which is all the Class 1 races in World Xplorer basically.

I'm a bit worred in the apparent spike though. Previous RR games seem to have got it spot on there.
