Ridge Racer 6.

Meh

Recommended Posts

I'm only a few hours in, but I'm enjoying (although I am admittedly a Ridge-whore).

One worrying thing for me though - has anyone else experienced any dodgy stuff, like the game completely crashing when loading a course (occasionally) or loading up a track and having fucked-up textures (happened once)?

First weird stuff I've had with my 360 (though I've only previously played PD0 and a demo disc with it).

Never had any of those problems. Weird.

Has your 360 got a reasonable amount of airflow going through to it? I had mine pushed up against a wall for a while and Ridge Racer really struggled with loading and crashed a few times.

I moved it away and gave it a bit more space and haven't had any problems since.

Thanks for that - I've heard it mentioned elsewhere.

I think it is - it's in a sort of cabinet (open-fronted), with four compartments (DVD, PS2 and digi-box in the others, you get the idea).

It's not restricted on any side - the only thing in that respect I can think of is that the PSU is tucked in behind the console, sharing the same compartment. I suppose, with the size of it, I should ensure it's nowhere near the console.

I'll try moving the PSU away - it's a bit strange that I've had the console switched on for far longer periods (with other games) without any problems, but it's worth a shot for frustration-free racing!

Cheers

I have just wiped my save how the fuck I don't know!!!???

Jesus this is a nightmare!!!!!!

Any advice?

Sarky comments not appreciated.

No advice but it happened me as well. I am still not convinced it was my fault either. The game seemed to overwrite my original save.

If it happens again the game will be sold.

Sooooooo wrong. Can't both games live alongside each other in peace?

Obviously not. Unfortuantly it makes RR6 look bad if all that people can do in the thread is put down PGR3 instead of talking the Ridge.

If only Outrun 2 was compatible we wouldn't be having the hate as Outrun 2 would own all.

Heh, I'm something like 66th in the world on one of the short course in Global Time Attack. Got my ghost uploaded and everything. Most pleased with myself.

In other news, this game is great.

I hit 15th on one track. :P

There must be very few people setting global time attack scores. :)

Hehe yeah.. I made that mistake. On one of the tracks I was 41st in the world after my first attempt. It was only then that a realised only about 80 people had actually set a time :P

Does anyone know why this game has no sense of speed? I've used the fastest default cars available in Single Race mode and it felt like driving a tractor around the course. It only felt fast when the car was sideways. Do you need to unlock a space shuttle to make it feel like your moving fast in a straight line?

If you don't find class 4's fast then Ridge Racer 6 is not for you.

I can't really comment on the special class as the few races I have had, I have had to use cars with 'dynamic' handling which I just can't control.

I'm going to be trading in PD0 for this. Hope its different enough to PGR3 to warrant getting it though. I have not played RR since the PS1 era and if its got those rock hard angel and devil cars to beat then I'm going to need a spare controller.

You can compare friend's scores on RR6. Just no one in my friends list seems to be doing the same track and class as me.

Shall we get one set up then? Set a course and a class each few days or something?

The more of us that can add each other to our friends list the better, so that we can validate times if necessary.

Go ahead and set something up. I am definitely up for it. Class 3's at a push but class 4's are preferrable imo.

It's yin to PGR3's yang. Both games can co-exist happily beside each other. Going from one to the other immediatedly after is an interesting experience.

Apparently the Angel and Devil cars are still in but I've only done just under 30% of the game and will probably never go up against either one.

My copy is in the post so I havne't played this yet, but from the screen shots and videos I've seen I'd guess the lack of sense of speed is due to not enough scenary really close to the track, and not enough variety in what is there. Oh, and using an external camera never helps the sense of speed.

One of the things that makes the Burnout games feel insanely fast on occasions is the amount of stuff whizzing past about 2 inches from you car, take that away and they'd feel much more pedestrian.

The Angel and Devil cars do indeed make an appearance, expect much controller smashage.

I'd be well up for some time trial gubbins if it's organised, I've pretty much nailed the Explorer mode now so something else to do offline would be quality.

I was never really that much into the first two on the PS1 (RR and RR Revolution) - Rage was when I really started to get into it, beyond a passing interest (and then Type 4 - I even had a lot of fun with 5).

This is my favourite since Rage, so make of that what you will.

I'm still having a lot of problems - dunno whether it's my (previously fine) 360 or whether it's my copy of the game.

I'm getting crashes on loading some tracks (re-attempt a few times and they'll eventually work) - the scrolling loading tips completely freeze, or they constantly scroll without the two pauses you normally get when it loads successfully.

I also get it crashing after a race (very rare), whereupon I'll have to complete the race again. I've had a fucked-up speedo (bad texture), which didn't really impact on the experience. I've had it hanging on the Pac-Man game on load-up. I've had it loading a track and all the textures in the world being screwed. I've had it loading fine, but no music. I've had it being otherwise fine, but with one section of the track (like a bridge) having fucked polys - as if the verts have been pulled all over the place.

Some of this happens after a while, which I can attribute to a heating problem, but some of the above can occur on a cold (first game of the day) boot-up. Most odd and extremely annoying.
