When you say a 'primer'...?

If you're asking what to do with it, well it depends on what kind of thing you'll be wanting to make - Striking weapons, ranged weapons, force weapons or armour.

Ranged is the easiest - buy a load of traps and feed them to your bot; Striking can be done by feeding healing/resurrection items to your bot mixed with striking weapons; for Force you need to feed it a load of force weapons and low-level spell discs and for armour? Er, feed it shoes.

Once it hits level 80 you can take it into battle with you; between now and then you can use it to make weapons for yourself, and the success rate will go up the higher your bot's level. If you have anything 'special' that you want to make though, a few of us have lv100 bots in all the different types that you'd be welcome to use.

its not what you know its who you know.

yeah by primer thats pretty much what I wanted to know, I had a quick look over on pso-world.com and they had a feeding chart but they didnt exactly explain how you get it out in the field with you, having said that I have never seen anyone using one online so didnt know if they are a bit of a waste of time and effort?

ok so here are a few quick questions from my foray last night.

something that the feeding chart brought up which has always been a bit confusing it mentions types of items and then grades them by rarity, how do I find out what rarity an item is?

whats a good class mix to start off ? (no idea what I am at present, how do I find out?)

MONEY, any tips for milking the maseta?

Item rarity is displayed with a star rating system - if you cycle through the information pages of the item you want to know more about you'll see a string of stars. Rarities range from 1-15*.

For instance: Monomate 1*, Dimate 2*, Trimate 3*, Star Atomizer 5* (I think), Moon Atomizer 4*... etc etc.

To find out what class you are at present, press start, go to the first option along and then same again - should be something like 'Character Data'. It will tell you your level and your class - at Lv15 it'll likely be Hunter, Ranger or Force. Spend a bit of time as both Hunter and Ranger - if you get both of those up to lv5 then it opens up a wealth of hybrid classes for you to play around with, and if you get them both to 10 you can play as Fortefighter and Fortegunner, which specialise in hitting and guns respectively.

The hybrid classes will specialise in a mix - Fighgunner is some punching, some guns; Acrofighter is mostly one-handed weapons and speedy attacking; Guntecher is part guns, part magic; so on, so forth. For now, unless you absolutely must use magic then I'd stick with Hunter and Ranger for now, and leave Force for a little bit until you're more used to the game as it's the trickiest one to get the hang of, I started out as a Force and spent the first 20 levels or so spending more time missing things than anything else!

If you press start, go to the first option and then to the last option - 'Types List' - you'll be able to see the weapon sets usable by each class. If there's a class that uses a load of weapons you enjoy using, then generally that's the best one for you to go for.

To find out what basic class levels (Basic = Hunter, Ranger, Force) you need to re-spec as for any given class, go to the fifth floor on the Guardians Colony and speak to the left-hand woman at the desk. She should be able to give you a load of information.

As for cash - if you have the expansion, do any of the new missions, they generally give pretty good cash. If not, simply make sure that any random party you join has Normal Items set to 'Set Random' or 'Set In Order' - this means that all the money that drops is distributed evenly between all players in the party, unlike 'Give Finder' which ends up being a mad dash for anything that drops.

Also, bigger parties drop more cash - you might not make any more money per run but generally you'll get through the run itself a lot faster, and so you earn more money/time.

Consider opening a shop, sell stuff you don't want, be careful with your money... it's easy enough to come by these days but it's very easy to spend it all and then realise you're skint

What's this I hear about some of the original PSO stuff being put into the game? Someone at work told me about it today briefly. If it's true I may finally venture onto the online side.

As Donk said, Forest on Friday! The other three original levels (Caves, Mines, Ruins) are coming soon with Maximum Attack G. That'd be an ideal time to jump on the PSU bandwagon as I expect EXP rates will be boosted, they always tend to do that during events.

omg booma in ur room

Thankyou for that Donk I shall have a quick blast at lunch and then I should be on from 10ish tonight if anyone is around, sounds like the best way to figure it out is just to get on and play, also quite impressed at how much more open the game feels after the reasonably limited missions which had been available at launch and the news that some revamped original pso stuff is on the way is making me really glad I am getting back into the PSU.

I get in from work at around 11-11:15 tonight and should be on soon after, RoboJeebus. I've still 5 levels of Hunter to play through with my CAST, who's level 22 now I think, so same level range as you, I don't mind showing you the ropes later on.

Also you know about the crit timing for your melee swings, right? Because they make things much more fun than just press buttanx1000

Crit timing (or 'Just Attack') is something you can use on Melee weapons only - essentially for each weapon and photon art there is a pre-determined timing window for each press of the button that will guarantee a critical hit rather than just a normal hit. Have a play around with whatever melee weapons you have and see what you get. You'll know you've pulled it off as you'll get a little golden aura around you and a different sound effect, and then you'll start hitting for massive damage.

Some weapons are trickier than others to nail the crit timing on, but if you have a play with the timings then you'll soon get it. :)

For slower weapons it's generally towards the end of the animation of the attack, just as you bring the weapon back to you, but it can differ. I've only tried it with sabers, twin daggers, whips and spears so that's what I'm basing my thoughts on. :D

Also hell yeah for home earlier than expected, more time for PSU. :(

So, today. Need some proof about those drop rate increases?

How about this:

- Usual materials, inlcuding a couple of Par Walna

- 1 Python (Koltovas DO drop something!)

- 1 Buccaneer (19% Fire, polties DO drop something!)

- a couple of Vahra Nails

- Vahra Claw

- Cati / Power (Third one since friday's update - sold for 6.5 million, again)

and finally:

Kan Yu.

...I'm not joking. the second one that's appeared since monday! I quickly scuttled to the player shops and bought Catilium to start the synth. Ice Element, it's going to be out at half 12. can't wait up that long, I'll have to somehow wake up extra early tomorrow.

So, in all: AHRAHRGRGHARGHAGRAHGRGHRHAGRGHARHGARGHARHRGHRGHARHGAH

Good skills!

So far I've found:

Burn / Resist

EPIC. I'll be on in a bit to help.

...help get myself another Kan Yu board, that is! NAC NAC NAC NAC NAC

...(but seriously? I'd probably give away the next board, I can't keep up with the Catilium intake)

I'm at a bit of a junction. I need directions, somebody tell me what to do!

I've decided not to bother with the Castest Line as it's simply not much of a step up from my Crimson Line, and costs lots and lots at the best of times.

So I have the 5 mil or so I put together sitting in my common box and I'm not sure what to do with it. I've also maxed out Fortegunner.

Which class should I change to? Should I change at all? Should I buy some more A-ranks for my pallet even though I only use shotgun because I want to get its PA to 31 (on 28 now)? Should I keep saving instead?

Inspire me guys!

Hmm... if you use Single Sabers, buy a Crimson - there's a set bonus with the Crimson Line that gives you a little extra damage when using the Crimson. Something 30%+ should cost you less than 500k I reckon.

Try picking up a Phantom +5 (or higher, watch what you pay though as they get expensive as the grinds go up), Drumline +5, Arb Biso +5, or even buy plain versions and grind them yourself. S-rank gunner stuff is pretty hard to come by at the moment so if you're happy Fortegunning then why not keep going?

If you absolutely have to respec to a different class though, going solely on the shotgun thing give Protranser or Guntecher a go - they're the only two other classes to have Shotgun usage.

OR - don't spend it at all - I have about 15 million sitting spare at the moment and I'm not sure what to do with it. That suits me fine and no you can't have it ^_^

Protranser 3 now, hell yeah. I could actually hit stuff and not die in 2 hits when I reached 2, so playing through White Beast B is pretty pleasast now. I got that Majarra, but it's pretty akward to level, so I'm going back to getting my fist one to 11 then I'll focus on it.

Fantastic! Look at you having all the luck :P

Now to grind it ^_^

Marc! I've left a couple of bows in your room, I fancied a bit of grinding and picked a couple up at 500MST each and went to town on them.

In case you're wondering why one of them is 4/4, I used exclusively C+2 grinders on it :( Actually managed to get the damn thing up to 6/9 at one point too but got a bit greedy. Never mind! They should make Protransing a little more bearable...

I can use that Izeclure thingy now, my stats have climbed enough. :P

Also my memory is useless ^_^ I went and bought the wrong SUV last night, but I got the big triangle laser one, so I don't mind because I feel cool using it and doing mass damage.

Thanks Marc for your help last night and the description of the crit strike stuff.

the server timed out for me and beertiger last night we did eventually get back on but it felt better to muddle on and find our feet without hassling you to trawl through the lower levels constantly bailing us out for litte reward.

played til around 11.30 and went to bed, I am going to have a quick blast at lunch and then hit it hard again later tonight after my EoJ matches, it feels like the best way forward is for me to stumble about and ask in here when I get stuck, once I feel a bit less of a N00B I will trying hooking up with you fellas for some online shennanigans, havent started up the luminous DLC yet, will probably give it a look at lunchtime.

thanks again for your help though it is nice to have some one to go to when I am just utterly confused by it all.

and in that vein I ask this, is there a best place to buy weapons, armor, parts etc? do prices shift for similar items depending on retailer?

I've got all of those already ^_^. The phantom dropped from the event mission. :P

I'll look at crimson sabre though, last time I didn't have enough ATA.

Well, the best thing you can do is start up the expansion, and use the Search By Condition option for the player shops. Use PSO-World to find out what kind of items you're after, and want, check, then use the Vision Phone in your room, Search For A Shop then Search By Condition, and fill in the item name, and sort setting to price, you can see what they're going for in player shops (almost always cheaper than npc shops)

Edit; yay I'm now a very very poor level 4 protranser, after getting myself a Sori-senba and new Sturm Attacker (grom costs 200k ;_:wub:

No problem on the assistance last night Marc, it was a pleasure. Being a heal-and-buff-bot is sometimes preferable to grinding the same mission over and over by myself! And the chat was nice too.

Player Shops are definitely the best place to get new weapons. People tend to either mass produce stuff to sell on cheaply, or put their hand-me-downs up at very reasonable prices when they upgrade their gear.

Siri! I'm sorry if I sounded shitty in that message turning down the offer of that Cati / Powder the other day, but I don't feel as if I deserve to just be handed stuff! If I was in the run with you and it dropped and no-one else wanted it then that'd be fine, if you get me. (the reverse is also true, if I ever get anything that someone else is desperate for then I'll gladly hand it over! )

Maybe I need to do some De Ragan runs with you... You've found three so far, do you have Cati / Luck?

Someone was saying that they've hit a brick wall and they don't know what to do next, Raff wasn't it? I'd suggest getting out there and doing some runs you've never done before, or only done once or twice. Getting some experience of what the game can throw at you is very valuable, especially at S/S2 level. Learning to deal with all the monsters, and some uncommon combinations of them will pay dividends in the long run, like the Vahras and Jarbas of Crimson Beast, the Bil De Vear and Drua Gohra combination in Tunnel Recapture, or even the moral destroying Deljaban/Gaozoran/SEED Vittace team-ups in HIVE S2 runs.

I'd be more than happy to come along to some kind of uber-planetary tour taking in most, if not all, the missions the game has at it's highest level. Plan for the weekend maybe?

You people talk in riddles. PSO was never this complicated.

Ooh blimey, don't read 90% of my posts then! I can't go for too long without mentioning some kind of stat or % modifier!

Seriously, I like the depth of PSU, but to a certain extent it is optional. You can go off the deep end and equip 50% elemental armours with Legless / Rainbow units, while spamming some PA Frag arts at level 40 with your 10/10 S rank weapons, or you could hit stuff with Rising Strike, chill out and chat about random shit.

I like to think I fall somewhere in the middle.
