They were right about Mario Kart Wii, at least.

Giving one of the best multi-player games around a 6? I'd like to disagree with you there. There used to be about one controversial review a year, now it's a couple every bloody issue. Still, will be interesting to see what Penny Arcade scores from other sources. At 1600pts they can still fudge off though.

As for the Penny Arcade score in Edge, does anyone give a toss what Edge mark a game any more?

Clearly someone does, winky smiley.

And of course people care, why do you think there's a thread every month? I like it when people go completely overboard with their statements. Someone yesterday said that Mario Sunshine has the "worst level design I've ever seen". Good stuff.

No doubt Penny Arcade is as awful as the site itself. Oops, that's exactly the kind of overboard statement I was talking about above. It'll be bad, but not that bad.

Could Talisman still be alive-

<a href="http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/talisman?q=talisman" target="_blank">http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/...sman?q=talisman</a>

its the '4 pending reviews' part that suggests it might actually be alive.

Yes and no.

Like Tim said, 4 pending reviews doesn't mean anything but...

According to Christian Svensson, Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development at Capcom:

We are redirecting the project at the moment and there are a number of courses of action we are evaluating. The game is not canceled, nor is it on hold. We want the best possible execution so it is probably fair to say that it will not make the original date of "Winter". As we complete our evaluation of our options, we will eventually formulate a new release date.

After pressing him a bit further he went on to inform us that at a minimum, they will be changing developers. What happened between Capcom and Big Rooster, is unknown at this time, but one would imagine that this sort of switch, could mean a very hefty delay.

So it's not 'offically' cancelled but in limbo. Personally I doubt it'll see the light of day now

Sounds like they will be starting from scratch, if they continue with it at all.

Perhaps they are waiting to see how bloodbowl does?

I did wonder how it would work online, as a good game of Talisman usually lasts two hours or more.

Soul Calibur XBLA

First Soulcalibur (XBLA) screens

NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today released screenshots for Soulcalibur, their latest game for Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Originally released in 1999 for the Sega Dreamcast™, Soulcalibur remains the highest rated fighting game of all time and the screens highlight the transition to the high definition era and fan favorite characters.

Soulcalibur is back for a new generation! Sharpen your blades and relive past grudges with the start of the definitive console 3-D fighting franchise. Prove your worth against the world with dozens of leaderboards spanning every character and mode. Hone your fighting instincts in Arcade, Survival and Training modes or challenge a friend in local-play Versus mode

Soulcalibur will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade this summer.

Why does it look like it running through some kind of emulator? It looks flat and doesn't even look anywhere near as good as the DC version. The lighting and effects look way off.

Just read a thread elsewhere about the Partnernet release of Rocket Riot...didn't know what the game was about before but looking at screenies now it looks very nice indeed, and the info and screens on the site sound quite nice. The realtime nature of the gameplay and stuff like jetpacks kind of remind me of Soldat (and btw: if ever a game needed to be ported to XBLA, it's that) and the 3D presentation and (presumably) 2D movement looks brilliant. Might be worth keeping an eye on...

Speaking in this GI interview, David Edery - worldwide games portfolio planner for Xbox Live Arcade - has confirmed that the file-size for XBLA games it to be extended from 150Mb to 350Mb.

“Yeah, it’s a steady progress,” when asked if the new size was correct. “We’ve been listening to our partners, listening to our customers to try and get a feel for what’s right. We don’t want the size limit to hit the roof because we think there’s some value in promoting small pick and play experiences that don’t cost USD 20 million, it’s good for the ecosystem.”

Edery fell short, however, of confirming when the new limit would be put into effect.

Really? Looks practically identical to me. But hey, that Dreamcast was a good console, eh? :D

Has anyone bought Speedball 2? I want to know if the 'enhanced graphics' are worth it, I used to play it on the Amiga but somehow the fun hasn't translated onto the 360.

The enhanced graphics are horrible. Just stick to playing it with the original graphics, they are still up to the job.

Don't know if this is a 88MPH, but the size limit for XBLA games are being upped to 350Mb:

From gameindustry.biz, talking to XBLA's David Edery:

Q: And you're upping the size of Xbox Live Arcade games as well to 350 megabytes?

David Edery: Yeah, it's a steady progress. We've been listening to our partners, listening to our customers to try and get a feel for what's right. Anyone been stupid enough to pay 1600 points for Penny Arcade Adventures? I couldn't even make it to the end of the trial before turning it off. Is it supposed to be funny?

Xibxang for some odd reason seems very excited about and just sent me a text saying how great he thinks the penny arcade podcast is so I guess he's going to buy it.

Madness.

In other news I completed the 400 point Assault Heroes 1 last night and loved it throughout. Good length, not too hard or easy, really well judged. Anyone that fancies hard mode co-op give me a shout.

Played the demo of Penny Arcade- it had a few amusing touches but wasn't at all funny overall and was pretty tedious to play.

It basically plays like Paper Mario, near exactly actually, but with a more annoying combat system and missing a lot of the charm. Unless you're a massive PA fan. I'd struggle to play through it for free let alone 1600 points
