Yeah I think that's right. I don't know if you get more points for destroying the homing stuff it spews out though.

The little blue circles it produces on explosion are worth the same as the Blue Diamonds. ie 50 points a piece (without multiplier).

Is there a quick way to see the top of the leaderboards in the game? I don't see a button saying "overall rankings from top" or something similer.

A little sad to know that karnage lost his 1st place. Still, good to know theres some competition.

Where does he talk about his play? The new 101million guy.

Press X through the filters, to "Overall"

Figured it out...

Not ONLY has the 101million score been beaten by 2 people...they've beaten it by...oh my..

1. VVintermute 203,023,115

2. The0LDMAN 200,000,000

Slightly suspicious that that guy got "exactly" 200million...but eh.

Bloody amazing etc.

=======

Oh dear, I made a big blunder.

That was for the RETRO scoreboards. DOH.

101 million for evolved?!!! How is that even possible?

I was impressed with myself for getting past the 700,000 mark yesterday.

Does anyone else find that their first go of the day is always, without exception, their highest scoring run? It's odd - I think to myself I'll just have a warm-up go, and then I'll really persevere and get a new high score, but I never beat the score I get on that first run. It's like my first go makes me completely gung-ho for every subsequent attempt.

It's the complete opposite of what I'd expect to happen.

The demo of this would be my most-played game on the 360 if it weren't for a flatmate's insistence on constant DoA4 matches.

Anyone else find themselves spunking their smart bombs away too quickly because they really want to hear that cool WHoooooooooooom bit in the music?

Yeah totally. When I got my 440,000 high score, I was on a warm up, and I even enarly got to 250,000 without losing a life.

Now I haave a 32" HDTV I can't get close to even touching that score though <_<

Without a doubt the moment I lose the game is when those tiny little blue things come streaming out of each corner in their hundreds. I'll focus on just one of the 'quaters' but can never clear them up in time before moving onto the others. Add in other enemies being spawned and it's the only time that I HAVE to use a smart bomb (if I've got any that is).

I used to love Spheres of Chaos. Haven't played it for a while as I gave my Risc PC away due to lack of space a couple of years ago.

...goes to look at Spheres of Chaos webpage...

Oh nuts, everything except a Mac version. <_<

At risk of going OT - there was a really fun (I thought so at the time at least) Bomberman clone for the multitap which SoC used called Bowladroids - anyone remember that one?

I was amazed to discover PomPom were the guys known in Acorn land as Psycore (haha) who did that strange platform game and the revolving thing.

The harder I try the worse I get at GW:RE

So I just try to not concentrate too much and just relax into the zone. Thats how I beat 1 million. I also find it useful not to look at the score as when I start getting close to beating someone on my friends list the panic kicks in and WOOSH 5 lives gone in less than a minute.

Then again after neglecting it for a couple of months I now cant get over 400,000 at the moment.

No doubt my skills will slowly return.

I love this game. Probably my most played game on my 360.

Managed to get over the 1Mil milestone just a couple of days ago to get those extra 30 gamer points. Now all I have left is Survive 1mil and get 9 bombs.

As far as I am aware, the multiplier works on numbers of enemys killed

25 = 2x

50 = 3x

100 = 4x

200 = 5x, etc.

I have also found that it makes it a lot easier to focus your eyes on your ship, not the enemys, specially in the later stages of the game. Find a direction to go round the playfield, you will find that one direction seems more natural to you than the other. Keep moving round, firing behind you at the enemys travelling behind.

Shoot at the black holes ahead of you when necessary, dont worry if you dont destry them completely. The little blue 3 pronged enemys (which I nicknamed "The Fizz") I deal with by shooting into the stream coming from one corner, nip through the gap, shoot into the stream from the next corner, fly through that gap, etc.

Also it is good practice to start the game and see how long you can go without moving your ship. Just use the right stick to shoot as this will improve aiming. Likewise use up all three initial bombs at the start of the game so that you will not be able to use them later. This gives you practice on seeing what situations you could have got out of without the need of smartbombing you way out.

Yeah, if you play this game you really need a dedicated playlist of stuff that gets you "in the zone".

Yeah, I was thinking this too last night..... any good suggestions ?

Although I'm thinking there is no hope for me on this - admittedly I've only had about 10/20 goes so far, but my top score is a pathetically low 75,000 odd !

I finally managed it:

GeometryWarsfirsttimeIpassedaMillio.jpg

I'm almost didn't make it as I kept losing lives at 970,000+ and had no bombs at the time so was unable to survive once all those tiny little crosses started spawning. It was a fucking great feeling beating a 1,000,000.
