Thanks, I'll give Filthy Casuals and TCGS a go.

Just looking for something that captures that magic of Giant Bomb or Idle Thumbs back in is heyday. Got the Back Page, of course, but looking for something more mainstream, too.

One thing to bear in mind is that the industry is a bit quiet on the ol’ megaton front at the moment so a lot of news and commentary podcasts are suffering a bit in that regard.

Of course, as long as they can say things in a funny or insightful manner.  Coincidentally, after a bit of nostalgia for 1Up, I listened to Rebel FM for the first time since about 2009. Boy, the energy levels in that one are through the roof. <_<

As well as TCGS, Filthy Casuals is a good listen: three foul-mouthed Australian comedians chatting about each week's news and the latest games. There's 1-2 ads each episode, but they're normally quite funny, and episodes rarely go on for longer than about 70-80 mins.

I've only recently started listening to Filthy Casuals and, despite me being a bit huffy about adverts in general, find the way they weive the Manscape stuff in absolutely hilarious.

Thanks for the Filthy Casuals recommendation, @Jamie John. Just look what I was looking for: news, reviews and decent laughs. I'll definitely put it on rotation.

One thing I didn't think I'd miss, based on the last two episodes I listened to at least, is a letters section. Those can be entertaining sometimes but every other podcast of this type seems to have them and taking it out makes things a lot breezier.

Yes, they're great. I think @elmo originally got me into it.

If you're looking for something very different in tone, then Triple Click is often pretty good. It's Jason Schreier, Kurt Hamilton and Maddie Myers. They do a mix of 'What we've been playing'-type episodes, episodes dedicated to particular games, episodes about big news stories, etc. I don't listen to it every week, but they're only an hour long and it's good to hear things from a female and LGBT perspective. It's out every Thursday, same as Filthy Casuals. This was last week's:

Quite fascinating listening back to the old ALWW.

Only through the first couple that are about 13 years old.

"Death of EGM", recognise some old names that get mentioned and funny hearing them talking what they think game could become in the future.

"Gotta catch them all", there is a guy worried about saying something because he's worried about it being on TV and Robert Ashley has to explain the it's ok it's just the internet.

I found that quite hard to listen to. The EGM guys sounded obnoxious, immature and crass. Put me off listening to more episodes of the podcast.

I only started listening to TCGS about two months ago and have pretty much listened to it every day since. It’s just superb. Apart from the obvious hilarious banter and patter between everyone, the list of games I otherwise wouldn’t have heard of or played it’s now huge. Just completed Deaths Door thanks to TCGS and now working through Ollie Ollie world and Nex Machina.

Thanks to everyone involved in it and keep up the great work.

This has already been posted in the Retro section but I thought I’d post it here incase anyone interested had missed it and wanted to hear a load of middle aged blokes argue about their favourite 8 bit computer system.

The RA gang are joined by some very special guests to engage in mortal combat once more in the first ever 8 Bit Wars Christmas Edition. Who will be the glorious victor?

Thank you all so much for the support throughout the year. From TCGScon to Marvel Calls, it’s been an effing mad one. Hope you manage to get some form of enjoying out of the GOTY show and we’ll see you in the new year!

I listened to the first episode this morning, it’s great. Simon is a good interviewer - good line of questioning and just let Josh get into his answers - plus an interesting and unexpected exploration of the psychology of the crossword at the end by the interviewee.
