Just want to give Cane and Rinse a bit of love.

Listening to them through a bit of a rough patch really helped my mental state, and I find a piece of zen with every listen.

Aside from that, it's a bloody great podcast that contains some brilliant & deep discussion on various games from old and new.

Same here. It’s a go to for me for the same reason. It’s nice to be able to go back into  their archive and pick out a show when you play a game, as I have done with Dragon Age & Mass Effect recently.

Also, great to see TCGS giving some up & coming talent a slot on this week’s show.

I’m hoping that Leon Cox listened and that I’ll hear from him soon.

I had the “pleasure” of driving buses for a living the last couple of years. Podcasts like Cane & Rinse really helped keep boredom and depression at bay. It’s probably my favourite gaming podcast, with Retronauts, Video Game Outsiders and The Retro Hour also on my regular play list.

Oh and Amigarama of course!

Now I’ve started a job back in my field of construction, I’m going to have a lot less time to listen to them all.

I'm re-listening to Idle Thumbs from the start at the moment on account of no other games podcast managing to take it's place for me since it ended and... 5 episodes in and there's some choice moments with 10+ years of hindsight.

Talking about Stardock, Brad Wardell and them acquiring the Sins Of A Solar Empire devs, Chris says "They're just such a cool company that it's hard to ascribe any evil values to them." immediately followed by Jake jokingly saying "FOR NOW!" in a spooky voice.

They're also loving how productive Valve are "They're putting out a new game every year at this point, it's incredible!"

Speaking of old podcasts, I'm going through A Life Well Wasted again. It really was superb. Some of it is a little dated now, but it's so well put together. You can see why he knocked it on the head, must have taken an age to put together an episode with that format on your own.

Is there such a thing as a gaming podcast where people don't say "like" twice a sentence? Seriously, it drives me fucking nuts.

That and the rising inflection must be all but epidemic in contemporary American life judging by their podcasts. I can't understand how they don't hear it in themselves.

More vintage Idle Thumbs hindsight comedy.

Episode 7 and they're following the announcement of that Tony Hawk Wii Balance Board game by joking about people making xbox games that use a web camera for a controller. Full on pissing themselves over it, thinking it's the most outlandish thing in the world and would never actually happen.

I can't find the right balance for posting in this thread. I'm incredibly wary of bogging things down with an update every time we release a new episode of Playing Catch-up, so I try and only do it every couple of months... only, I just checked and it's nearly a year since I last posted. What a dolt.

We've just put out Episode 31, covering two Big Deal titles from PlayStation history: Metal Gear Solid and The Last Guardian.

I couldn't quite believe @MW_Jimmy had never played MGS, so it was interesting to hear a first-time player take on such a cultural juggernaut for the first time more than 20 years after release. For my part, I had put off playing TLG for nearly three years despite rating Ico as my favourite game for a long, long time. I'd seen some negative reaction here and elsewhere on release and couldn't bring myself to play it for fear that a series I held in such high regard would be soured. It's fair to say I needn't have worried.

Usual caveat: I know there are a ridiculous number of games podcasts to choose from but fellow rllmukers have been lovely about the show in the past, so I just wanted to let you know we're still going.

Other games we've covered in recent episodes include: DOOM (2016), Yoku's Island Express, Dead Space, Final Fantasy Type-0 and a bunch more of lesser known bits and pieces.

Genuine thanks to anyone who takes a listen, especially if you're one of the people who has supported the show over the past few years through some stop/start periods. Listener numbers are higher than ever and now that we're getting regular episodes out over a sustained period we'd love to keep the momentum going. So if you enjoy, please consider letting other people know if you feel they'd get a kick out of listening. Thank you!

I’ll give it a listen later today. Is the premise that you discuss older games? i like the idea of that since I don’t play the latest releases mostly’

Yes, that’s it. In the main episodes we discuss one older game each that we have recently played for the first time, picked by the other person in the previous episode.

Sometimes we put out episodes in-between where we round up a few things we’ve been playing in recent weeks - but even then it tends to be older stuff.

Hope you enjoy it. Any feedback always appreciated!

I'm a regular listener @Billy Brown and glad to see you back after a period.

My only comment is that sometimes the recording is a bit quiet. On the occasions where I don't listen on headphones, it's not always the easiest to hear.

But I like what you're doing, and the fact you are talking about a range of games in the latest episodes definitely helps.

Ah, thanks so much for this. We know the figures show listener numbers are slowly rising but we currently get little interaction from listeners, so this is so nice to hear.

Thanks for the point about the volume too. It's definitely been an issue in the past and something I've tried tinkering with. I'll take another look at it.

Just want to say thanks to anybody who has taken the time to listen to the latest episode. I said near the beginning of recording just how much I was looking forward to talking about these two games, and I hope that comes across!
