What gave you that impression?

They seem to think they are bigger than the games. So much bullshit chat on it, no wonder it stretches on for hours. If you have a weekly podcast and can't keep it to an hour, forget it!

I don't have much of a problem with GiantBomb, they can be a little self indulgent and they have a rabid...'community' that will not accept criticism. But I just cannot stand Klepek. His arrival has achieved nothing good for the site. Even what he was hired for, 'better journalism', is a joke. Lots of right-on opinion pieces about customer/consumer rights, and an absolute shitload of 'original content' he's done the legwork for that I'm sure absolutely nobody gives a shit about.

On the podcasts he's terrible and I genuinely believe the collapse in quality of the Bombcast is in direct correlation with his appearance and steady encroachment into fixturehood (notice they eased him in, slowly? They knew the community wouldn't be on board). He has a grating voice (accent and cadence), inability to shut up, annoying mannerisms, tends to witter on about his latest bit of 'journalism' that nobody gives a shit about for far too long... and so on.

For all the faults of the rest of the crew (Brad's tiredness/occasional poor ability, Jeffs deep cynicism, Ryan's dickishness), Klepek takes the biscuit.

Jeff's cynicism and Ryan's dickishness are key to their appeal! Klepek doesn't really have a personality other than "hey guys, I really like twee indie game-like art projects and talking about myself". His articles are poorly written and mistake-strewn, considering he's a professional writer, and every bloody news report involves him talking about himself, and how he has 'reached out' to whoever is involved. I mean, ultimately it doesn't matter, but it's noticeable.

Brad's no worse at games than I am, so I am clearly awful. Jeez, he's completed Super Meat Boy (at least the light world, anyway), a feat that is utterly impossible for me. Those breaking brad videos are fun.

Is anyone here interested in polygon.com, the new gaming website from Vox Media that seems to have hired quite a few ex-1Up staff and other apparently well known game journalists I've never heard of and they've got an introduction video that falls just the wrong side of taking themselves too seriously

They've been around for a few months as Vox Gaming, some of the stuff they've done has been very good - haven't watche the video.

Cards against humanity!

Yeah, I was listening to it in Morrison's and the shopping was more interesting than the opening half hour of Patrick Klepek and some Gamespot guy I've never heard of before blethering on and on about web content platforms and which US publications they have worked at in the past and for how long. Ryan couldn't carry it.

That was Giancarlo Varanini. He has been on the Bombcast before, a while ago now in the wake of the 1up layoffs. He was a regular on the rather fantastic 1up Show.

If anyone likes Third Strike and infantile humour the Ask Dr Sub Zero show is now available in handy podcast form on iTunes. It's just the audio from the live show he's been doing recently on Sunday nights but I see they've added a classic episode already so hopefully they'll put a lot of the old YouTube stuff up because that's a pain to find and inconvenient to listen to.

Stay tore.

Our live Skype-in show is going to stream on ustream 8-10pm Wednesday 25th April. Add 'Joypod_live' on Skype to get involved.

It's our first live show since Play Talk went under in June 2009... Hopefully, it'll be a lot of fun.
