Pish name, theres another couple of random words for you.

Its an awful name, why not just call it something like Gamerdork 3.0 rather than totally leave Gamerdork behind?

All in all the new pod wasnt bad, a lot of boardgame talk which isn't my thing personally but im sure plenty will enjoy. I don't mind the odd mention of them like you occasionally did before but there was nearly an hour of it this time.

New presenter was ok, sorry but I can't remember his name now. You can tell you both get on and that always a good sign. Could have done without the Megadrive description to that level, surely everyone knows what that is these days. Enjoyed the story about Micro Machines as well, think we all have some tales like that, well not about taking notes of times etc but having a caper with mates.

Will stick with it though, interested to see where it goes.

Oh and yeah that advert on the site is a pain in the arse as well, hope you guys make some ££ out of it though.

Have to agree, frankly the name is an exercise in awful.

I'm a bit puzzled by the new podcast tbh. The gaming chat seemed to be secondary to the board game chat and to relaunch a podcast with chat about Dead Space and a little chit chat about Ecco the Dolphin and Micro Machines is just nonsense. In my opinion without Ratso it has lost direction and I dare say the knowledge base (and passion perhaps) to make a really interesting podcast.

I'll be interested to see how Ratso and Jays new project turns out unless they give it a stupid name..

Utterly gutted to say this but I have to agree. The board game stuff just sent me to sleep. I understand the dynamic of just having two mates just chating about games in the same room, and you both have a nice wee chemistry there, but there was just something missing. I like Ragman_KD and would like to hear more of his opinions and views on games that he has played, but the board game talk is just dull.

Anyway has there been any news on Ratso's and Jays new podcast? Title? Date of new episode etc?

The way I see it, Xib doesn't owe us a gaming podcast. There would be nothing worse than a bloke trying to do a video games podcast if he doesn't want to do one.

Xibs passion lies with board games now and he wants to do a board gaming podcast. I just envy board gamers. If he can do for them what he's done for us over the past 4 years, good luck to them.

Your absolutely right Elmo.

It looks like Xibs interest has diverged from my own and he's more into board games now, and that's fine. However personally I really liked hearing both Xib and Ratso's opinions on the latest videogames. Xib is now more into board games and personally this is probably where I say goodbye to the podcast and I thank Xib for the wonderful years of entertainment that Gamerdork has given me and I wish Xib and Ragman_KD all the best of luck with The Disconnected Claymore.

I'll ask again though. Has there been any news on Ratso's and Jays new podcast?

Not as of yet but Ratso has said he'd come on Joypod soon, so hopefully we can find out then. I know i'll be listening.

edit: to his new show, not the episode of joypod he's on... my ego is big, but not that big.

Your right that Xib doesn’t owe is anything with Gamerdork, its his baby and he is free to do whatever he wants with it.

I personally find it a shame though, ive listened to GD since back when it started as RLLMUK Radio, gotta love those times when Sandra Richards and Soong were your guest, and then into the days of Uzi and onto Ratso, both excellent and both different but great teams with Xib.

This new path and the seeming finishing of Gamerdork itself is just a bit gutting really, to be honest I would be saying the same if this happened to Joypod as well.

Will certainly give it a few more goes to see how it pans out, its early days after all, but I have to agree with Gmass that the direction seems to have gone with Ratso moving on.

One thing GD will always have though is one of the best pods ive listened to when Chris Remo was guest.

Does Ratso even post here these days? Would be good to get an update of what he is upto.

Point taken with the podcast name. We've been talking to a few people and taking everything on board, it'll change to GamerDork v3.0. At least that way we don't lose our branding.

As for the critique on Ecco the Dolphin and Dead Space: neither of us are driven to play the newest titles. This has been the case for GamerDork for a while now unless there's something stellar that's just come out that gets its hooks in from the start. There definitely will be new games featured in the show as and when they grab us but for me at least, Dead Space is mocking the "To Play" pile.

Board gaming. This one's sat heavy in my head this week and yeah, you guys are right. A podcast that's split 50/50 between board and video games is never going to go down well with core fans of either mediums. So this is where either we choose one format to go with or make two shows. I'm having a look at the viability of the latter at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to listen so far, guys.

Hi, Ratso here. Thanks to those of you who have expressed an interest in what Jay & I are doing next.

Suffice to say we have a very clear vision for the new podcast (and blog) which will quite simply take the form of a informed, articulate videogames discussion show. We won't be able to cover ALL the latest titles and in fact plan to give equal respect to all formats, eras and genres as far as we can, following my ethos that it's the games that ultimately count. Obviously wider issues regarding design and the industry may come organically from this but I intend to avoid starting purely industry/commerce related topics. I'm not qualified to talk about these and I don't care that much about that side of things when all is said and done. I'm a gamer not an analyst.

There are also a few pet hates & pitfalls of the traditional podcast that we shall aim to avoid, such as the "I've not played that"/"I've never heard of that" half-conversation by planning our shows well in advance and making sure that everyone present on a particular show has a valid and qualified opinion on each game covered. Those of you who have made podcasts will know that is perhaps a more ambitious plan than it sounds, but there it is anyway.

Furthermore we'll also be looking to feature industry guests as we (I hope) establish ourselves. I very much enjoyed the handful of developer interviews I did with GamerDork and would like to pursue this further.

More details to follow soon. The reason we haven't given a date yet is simply that we are starting from scratch with everything really, so we don't want to add unnecessary pressure when we'd rather make sure everything was in place to launch strong with a 'finished' website and a decent quality podcast.

I will definitely pop onto Joypod as soon as I have some more concrete details I can give out. I hope that whichever name we go with won't put anyone off even if they don't like what we choose at first, it's the content and ambition that's more important, surely? We've found that it's extremely hard to find cool domains that aren't taken in 2011.

As is the way of things these days, most info is likely to sneak out via Twitter, so please follow me, @ratsoalbion, there. @JaySevenZero too - he's working crazy hard on getting the website up and running.

Thanks for reading.

Good luck with the new ventures Xib and Ratso.

I always prefer the gaming podtcasts that are just like mates talking about the things they love new and old,

I don't need discussion on the latest games / news there's hundreds of sources for that. I'd much rather hear someone talk passionately about a board game or and old rubbish title they have been sent to play (like when Elmo used to send Michael games for example) which is far more entertaining

Anyway, a big thanks to everyone that does put time and effort into making these podcasts for our entertainment it's really appreciated and the likes of GD, Joypod, Little Metal Dog Show, DorkTunes etc make the world a brighter place and the working day more bearable :)

I'm off to catch up on a weeks worth \o/

Ignore anyone who chastises an independent podcast for not keeping track of the latest games.

I listen to the pros for that, I listen to the independents for entertaining chat and as long as you can get a good story out of a game, it shouldn't matter how new or old it is.

A couple of changes are happening at the GamerDork podcast.

Ragman and myself will be bringing out a dedicated board games podcast. This'll avoid having a show that impinges on video gaming and vice versa.

Uzi and I will be doing a fortnightly dedicated podcast based on video games. As mentioned previously, it'll be called GamerDork v3.0. I still need to create a new iTunes and RSS feed for it but you'll be able to download our first show from the current GamerDork feed once it's out, and then from its own feed shortly after that We record our first show on Friday.

Sorry for all the changes. Ragman and I actually play board games together and having both of us in the same room to record makes sense, hence the adjustments.

Amazing news about Uzi coming back to the fold as well, can't wait to hear the new stuff.

Ah shucks, some people remember me  It's been almost two years since I last got near a mic, so don't expect me in my prime right away!

Really looking forward to it, and just in time before the jizz tastic run up of games this winter.

Just want to say, thanks for all the positive comments that you gave me for my first ever show.

As most of you by now know, Im gonna bow out to help produce a boardgames only show with Xib. Thats where my heart really lies just now. Its an adventure I hope people will check out to see how were doing.

As for the video games, all I can say is good luck to Xib and Uzi for the future we all know its gonna be great.

Bolt the doors though boys cause Im gonna gatecrash the party an steal all your beer.

Thanks m8.

I understand that everyone involved with the GD shows were well known an liked. It was an imposable task really to fill those shoes, which was why we tried to do it differently, just wasn't what people wanted.

I have to thank xib big time for taking the chance on me. It was a big thing to ask someone like me to co-host a successful show.

I took the criticism positively and hope to take on board what people said and make my podcasting better. This was my first time doing this kinda thing and I'm only learning the ropes.

Its, hopefully, onwards an upwards for me now with the board games show.

Ill still be around here as I still love video games just maybe not that prominent. Its like I said it not where my heart totally lies as far as gaming is concerned.

I hope people will still check out what were up to with the new show as well

Again good luck to xib and uzi, not that I think you really need it.

Raise a glass an welcome the new era of GamerDork v3.0

Good stuff, although board game are a massive interest of mine I will give the first few shows a listen, you never know it might start me off on a new path.

In other news, looks like it might be the last we hear fo Arthur Gies on the IGN podcasts, just saw this tweet on the Rebel FM site...

"last day at IGN, and just now leaving. I'm ok with that. goodnight moon, and all that."

I do hope he's not off to work in PR for more money. There's enough misanthropes in that field already as it is.

Oh, love him or hate him, this is Scott Bromley 10 year ago and 150 pounds heavier:

Skip ahead to 4:50. The rest just reminds me why watching game shows dissolves the soul.

:coffee:

Unless it's 80's re-runs of Bullseye or 321, that's different. 8)

  • 2 weeks later...

This week's Geekbox was a nightmare, and got turned off early - Adam has something of an issue with the new 3DS circle pad addon, and expresses these in a fashion even more irritating than fingernails/blackboard.

Like Shane Bettenhausen only not entertaining or interesting, only ranty.

For me Geekbox used to be the most entertaining videogames podcast by far but the addition of Adam has really started to drag it down and he is now seen as some kind of comedy foil when really he is amusing at times and plain annoying at others. He seems hell bent on giving his opinion on the subject even when he doesn't know shit about it. A shame as it was really wonderful for quite some time.

Ordinarily I don't like drawing attention to stuff I make, but a mate on another forum has got some basic video capture equipment and we've started making some brief Giant Bomb-inspired quick-looks. Actually done over the net rather than in the same room, so it's a bit of a technical mine field.

I'm on the last one and we've recorded two more, done in the same room though - Driver : San Francisco and The Stanley Parable.

Youtube has a 15 minute limit on basic accounts, I think, so it's good in my opinion that we're forced into keeping them short and hopefully to the point. Hence why the Deus Ex one is split into two parts.
