I've deduced that it's Arthur that snorts all the time On Rebel FM. Disgusting fucking pig.

I've not noticed the grunting, but man...what a self-righteous dick-hole. I dip in to listen occasionally because I've loved Anthony's style and personality since the GFW days. Seems like a really nice guy. While Arthur comes across as...urgh. There's a sitcom in there.

I think I overlook his attitude just because I'm always on edge awaiting the next sickening snoooooooort from him. It turns my stomach. I think this will be another in a rapidly growing list of podcasts I have to stop listening to because one of the 'crew' just grates on me.

Anthony is excellent on everything I've heard him do, from trying to hold together the Debriefings to this, and the Game Club stuff I started listening to a while back.

The guy from DZ, Sean? Adds really well to the dynamic of your show elmo, not that it was getting stale, but his particular take on things has refreshed the show, whilst not really compromising the tone of it. Good work.

Cheers man, really appreciated.

You cannot talk about the living joke that is Ryan O'Donnell without mentioning this at 33:50 (unfortunately due to 1up's terrible old video system you can't skip straight to it, you'll have to let it load to that point).

Not clicked the link, but it wouldn't happen to be the episode someone left and he broke down into tears like a big, fat baby would it?

Quite possibly gaming podcast hell would be the following 'personalities' banding together and producing a show:

Greg Miller & his girlfriend, Stymer, talking in their Sesame Street voices and trying to out funny everyone else.

Alex from the Digital Cowboy's, being more American than everyone else and bellowing forced laughter whenever anyone says anything remotely funny.

Arthur Geese, snorting.

Justin Haywald, shouting over people and trying to finish their sentences for them so he can ramble on about something he's interested in. Did anyone hear him on Geekbox this week? I had to turn it off.

Alice and Karen from Geekbox. To repeat something, word for word, that someone else just said, stuff their fucking faces and to make snide comments.

The strange one from SHFTS; the one that flits between talking like some kind of clichéd English professer in an American made rom-com, and a middle-class hoodie trying to explain gaming to his parents.

I think Geekbox is going on the unsubscribe list, Rebel FM is getting one last go this weekend and IGN are pushing it - all I want frolm their output is Knockin' Boots at the moment.

I stopped listening to Geekbox thanks to Karen and Ryan saying stuff is "stupid" because they have no interest in it. Fitch was the best on the podcast, especially his Fitch Hitch episodes.

Now I have a rather short gaming podcast list of Giant Bombcast and 8-4Play. Though I heard on the Twittervine that there was a live phone in special Zelda-centric epside of Retronauts recently, hopefully that'll appear for download.

What, so those times when Bromley makes those considerable sexual boasts doesn't get included?

Think he is pushing his luck sometimes, such as him tweeting about witnessing a couple breaking up on a bus, as if it's the Royal-fucking-Variety Show.

They're a collection of the biggest geeks imaginable, I take any boasts about sexual prowess with a massive pinch of salt as the girls they attract are probably fat, ugly messes.

It's like Double 0 in the Love Status thread and all the masculine looking twigs he falls in love with.

Just finished listening to 8-4 Play and I've got a horrible feeling they are in some way involved with the next Dragon Quest localisation.

I say this because it is already one of the best, if not the best example of how it's done. I'm playing Nier at the moment (one of the jobs they seem proud of on the show) and it's simply fucking horrible. My character (grown man/father) is spouting things that a stroppy teenager might come out with and the speech on the title screen made me wince, it was that bad.

Like the podcast - it's great, but please don't let them near DQ, it's perfect as it is.

I doubt he was the paragon of paternity in the original language. It's not their job to rewrite the entire story of the games they localise.

It's not the story, it's the translation of the dialogue and the voice acting (which they sat in on for Nier) that are poor. You could go quite a few ways to make the same thing sound far more fitting than "You F'ing dumbass!" and "Crap, the bridge is out" It's just crass and heavy-handed.

It sours the experience to have a grown man spouting dialogue that sounds like it was written by an American teenager.

Actually - scratch that comment about the voice acting - they can only read what they're told to and how they're told to.

Listening to the latest Bombcast and hearing how unimpressed Jeff Gerstmann was to Jurassic Park as a kid kind of helps me understand why he's such a sad-sack towards everything these days. On the flipside, Ryan just seems super enthusiastic about everything.

Has no-one posted about the 1up Yours best-of?

thisyear_003.png

Many of you -- over 600 individuals, to be exact -- have heard the two previous recaps I've done, of The HotSpot (2005) and The HotSpot (2006), the latter a stifling eight hours long.

Now we're back, again, with the first year of 1UP Yours. 1UP Yours stars many, many famous faces we adore today. It provided solid competition to The HotSpot, and while it may not have led the pack on comedy, it was simply unstoppable if you wanted to listen to fanboy bashing and controversial opinions. And it was pretty funny too. Especially when Garnett Lee claimed that Germans would like Viva Pinata because of the game's genocidal aspect. Controversial.

The debut year of what instantly became the most hard-hitting, thoughtful, and entertaining gaming podcast. Together with host Garnett Lee, 1UP and Ziff Davis editors Luke Smith and Shane Bettenhausen and editorial director John Davison (along with pinch hitter Mark MacDonald) gathered each week to mull over the last gaming topics and new releases. Always cutting edge and always controversial, 1UP Yours remains incisive and relevant today.

1up Yours was my first gaming podcast - I listened right from the start, also the 1up Show back when it was a shoddy roundtable called 1up TV.

I'm so glad someone has done this, I look forward to giving it a listen. :)

Listened to that the other night. It's amazing how monumentally wrong Garnett was with all his predictions at the start of this generation.

Apparently the guy who put that together is doing one for the 2007 and 2008 episodes over the next few months. I really hope he does a GFW Radio one too at some point.

I seem to remember one time in particular when Shane was convinced that there was a game about to be announced as a PS3 exclusive that would completely turn the 360 vs PS3 sales around. I don't think that ever happened.

I'm also fairly certain that John Davison used to complain about Metacritic and how bad for the industry it is and now he works for Metacritic and Gamespot.

Didn't that end up being the FF13 demo coming free with the Advent Children Blu-ray, or am I thinking or something else?

 Yes, that might've been the thing.

He was so sure it would sell PS3's by the truckload.

I always found him entertaining but never really could work out how much was a persona and how much was actual fanboy. The smugness was irritating though. And calling his audience "kids". And pretty much everything else about him.

I've never listen to the storied 1up podcast so thought this might be ideal to get acquainted. I managed twenty minutes or so, I think. Abysmal. Mainly due to that British plonker, I'm sure that's the same one that loves "Johnny" in Red Dead Redemption.

oh man, i love John Davison

That's a shame. I used to be under the impression that John Davison was one of those people that nobody could possibly dislike, but this thread has proven me wrong time and again. ^_^
