Isn't he the guy mentioned in that anonymous EA blog post? He's meant to be a bull-shitter with no talent if you believe the blog.

He was the lesser of two evils when he was on with Leigh Alexander at E3, definitely.

I thought his list was interesting but the XBLIG game "Miner : Dig Deep" he got the name wrong and didn't come out in 2010.

I'm gonna have to listen to the Day 3 one again as I fell asleep at some point listening to it - not a slate on the content, more that it was bedtime.

Christ, this guy (Paul Barnety) doesn't half waffle on. Somehow he managed to get on the subject of Ultimate (now known as Rare), now he's saying Mahjong is one of the games of the year.

I feel he's trying to be different just for the sake of it.

What's wrong with him? I've only started listening, but he's taking the piss out of Leigh Alexander already, so he can't be all bad.

Comes across as being either incredibly out of touch, or as Gambit says, trying to be different just for the sake of it. I hate to mention Minecraft again, but he has it in his top ten not because he likes the game (he claims not to), but because he is impressed by its business model? What? <_<

Didn't he also say he played through Digital: A Love Story in 8 minutes too? I may have misheard him but I'm playing it now and it's taking way longer than 8 minutes. Makes me wonder if he actually played some of the stuff he listed.

Edit - Yeah, he claims it takes about 8 minutes.

Some podcast awards.

Dunno how relevant they are, I just saw them tweeted by one of the guys who appears one one of the podcasts. Given that pretty much everybody who won used to work at 1up or is part of the San Francisco videogames mafia who mix in the same circles as ex 1up staff then you can probably dismiss them completely. I just linked them because its great to see some love Idle Thumbs and the rather spiffy This Is Only A Test.

The final 3 should be Assassin's Creed : Brotherhood, Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption but I would guess Gerstmann will get something else in place of RDR.

Hopefully he bumps one of them. A third person action game, a third person action RPG and a third person action game is not the most diverse list, is it?

I think Starcraft II will make the final three.

Amazed that nobody on here has mentioned how Andrew Fitch's twin brother Adam, was a guest on Geekbox the other week.

He's a bit more red blooded male than Andrew.

Was also surprised to hear that Shane Bettenhausen was on Garnett Lee's show .... though disappointed he didn't spend any of it ripping into him. Guess it's somewhat harder to do that when the guy's sober.

I think Shane is going to be a semi-regular fourth chair on Weekend Confirmed if the conversation they had at the end of the show was something more than the usual "of course I'll call more often!" promises we all make at this time of year.

I'd hope so, there is room for a fourth chair and Shane is great.

According to GAF, Leahy tweeted the following:

I have left Shacknews and the gaming industry to pursue a new career. Thanks to all who followed my work and listened to WC.

And yes, I'll still be playing games and tweeting about them. If new schedule allows, might even set up a blog somewhere but not sure yet.

Surprised to see the Engadget podcast get such high praise. Nilay Patel is one of the more annoying podcasters out there so to see him praised is pretty wild.

The fact Jeff Gerstmann's overlong and unfunny Wii/DsiWare review get mentioned destroys any credibility these awards might have. The only way they would have been worse is if the Oddcast won something.

  • 2 weeks later...

Woah!, this thread is kinda dead, isn't it?

Man God is on the new episode of 8-4 Play. It's all about the new PSP, all of the cast were at the event.

JOHN RICCIARDI YOU ARE DAFT!

 There were some glimpses of classic Shane here and there throughout the podcast. Particularly during the NGP price "discussion". It was like vintage 1up Yours for a brief few moments. Great stuff.

Rebel FM was terrific this week, too. Great 25 minute section about the differences between Western and Japanese developed games. Really good listen.

I still have yesterdays and last weeks Gamespy Debriefings to listen to. A good afternoon ahead.
