Joypod is back this week! We've got a new feed though so you'll need to update your iTunes or some shit:

iTunes Link: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=392970034

Feed: http://www.spong.com/joypod/subscribe.xml'>http://www.spong.com/joypod/subscribe.xml

and the direct downloads can be GOT here: http://www.spong.com/joypod

Is the direct download not working properly?

I can't seem to "right click" and save as and when i click on the button it just opens up a new page and play the podcast.

Right. Yes people outside the UK can enter the comp.

And apparently when you get to the streaming page you can right click and save from there.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Oh and you can now get the new feed by simply searching 'Joypod' on iTunes.

I listen to the Giant Bombcast sporadically - maybe one week in every three. I'm not pleased about the idea of having half a podcast and having to wait a week for the other half though, so I'm wondering if I ought to pay that membership fee thing. If I did, I'd make sure I listened to the Bombcast every week, but to be honest, on its own the Bombcast isn't really enough to tempt me to pay (since I listen so sporadically at the moment).

Do you reckon it's worth it? What else do they do? I've never really looked at the website. Is it any good? I used to enjoy the 1-Up Show and would definitely have paid for that. Do the Giant Bomb folks do anything similar, or is it all discrete videos about individual games with no other banter, if you get what I mean?

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but rather than start a new one in ATF, I figured this was more or less the appropriate place to ask.

Rebel FM 77 is excellent.

Joypod episode 2 felt more relaxed than the first one, almost as if they're settling in and relaxing now. Still don't get Capone, his segments could do with being half the length (though the opening few lines this week were blinding).

Elmo's dad is a modern day hero.

Has anybody listened to these btw? Gaming Influences. They are from a guy who posts on the 1up forums, I used to post/lurk on there a lot and as he was one of the rare other European people who posted on there I friended him and followed him on Twitter. Never did read his blog though, but he has put out a fair few one on one interviews with people in the games press over the last month or so. Quite a few of them are 1up alumni, but the Shawn Elliott one (as ever) is very interesting. He spends most of his time talking about Irrational and it seems he has done quite well for himself since he moved there. I know when he first left Ziff he got a job as a producer and when he was charged with putting out the Irrational Behaviour podcasts I thought he was still doing clerical work there, but it seems he got a promotion. They are all worth checking out.

As Steven said, when they were doing their Big Live Live Show they said that if they got a certain number of subscribers they'd scrap the plan to chop up the Bombcast, which obviously is the case.

The main thing membership brings you is HD versions of all the videos, and the ability to download them. They also do a weekly live show at midnight on Fridays, which is a whole Whisky Media thing, so it's not just videogames - it has segments from their comic, anime, gadget and film sites.

It's probably not worth subscribing if you don't use the site much. For me, it's pretty much my only go-to place for videogame news and media (apart from here). I really like the concept of the site and the personalities involved, so I was happy to stump up to support it.

I tried the free in-browser version, which I assume is a crap old build, and I had absolutely no idea what was going on, so I just dug and dug until I found an underground cavern full of strange stuff. It seems really cool but miles over my head, and I don't have the time or inclination to work it out. I think that's probably what they were trying to say as well.

Jeff in particular has a very restricted and unimaginative way of playing games, though. He seems to want to hate Dead Rising despite the fact he's enjoying it, just because he can't beat the bosses at the first attempt and playing all the cases restricts you from doing other things.

Yeah the free version is really old and isn't much of a representation of the current build at all, to be honest.

I don't think they were negative about the game, just a little dismissive. They're like that about a lot of stuff though and it's bothered me before. Never mind!

Typically, the Giant Bomb guys aren't overly impressed with Minecraft. "Yeah, I suppose it's worth looking at for five minutes." "It's the sort of thing game designers like because they can see that there's the possibility for emergent stuff there."

Yeah that was kind of dissapointing, although it was amusing to hear Vinnie puzzle out what was a game mechanic designed by the creator and what was created by the community. It made me understand why people compare Minecraft to Dwarf Fortress, in both the popular appeal is what people create within the mechanics, like crazy fortresses, and the stories they tell, like Boatmurdered. The mechanics themselves are kind of cursory, and I can see why someone whos only contact with it is Youtube videos doesn't understand that there's a game there.

Also Minecraft totally owns and you should all buy it, it's a pure sandbox and is awesome and costs like £8 and I've gotten like 30 hours out of it already and it's in Alpha and is being constantly updated and has sold like 200,000 units. Check out my awesome Minecraft thread it's where all the cool people are yeeeeaaaahhh!

I've listened to them all now, well worth a listen. Although I admit I game up on the Ashley Riot one, she just wasn't that interesting.

I've just found Another Castle which is another set of interviews, more with developers (indie & 'pro') and academics than journalists (which is my one criticism of Gaming Influences).

Cheers for the link, looks very interesting, will definitely be checking those out.

I had no idea John Davison was no longer Editor in chief on GamePro.

Running Metacritic and a few other things at the moment, IIRC.

Listened to the first episode of Gaming Influences and wasn't too impressed - the questions were a little dry and the what's your favourite/least favourite thing at the end felt forced and poorly thought out. I think I also heard a few words that aren't actually words, like 'addictability'.

But it was the first episode, so maybe he's ironed out some of the creases since then.

I heard the Shawn Elliott one and although I enjoyed it as anything he's on is worth hearing, the interviewer really isn't very good at all.

No mention that Out of the Game started again last week? Should be back on more regularly now.
