Casual players don't tend to have a lot of gold, therefore are unlikely to pay for wow tokens with said gold. Casual players are more likely to sub for a month or two at a time with real money before wandering off to do other things.

I don't see this affecting things the way you think they will at all.

I think you're not appreciating how much gold people could easily/casually make in WoD (and can still do relatively easily in some cases).

Plus it's up 35% in one day.

It's not a killing blow (oh my hyperbole) but it'll put some off.

I don't think it will have much of an impact to be honest. I think it tended to be the more casual/time restricted player that sold the tokens and the more hardcore player that bought them. For those, the extra 60k or so per token (I can see it rising even more though) is hardly a deal breaker.

Gold was incredibly easy to come by in WoD but remember that for every month since the garrison income stopped coming in, that's another 100k+ people had to spend on tokens. Unless you're capable of making money outside of the WoD garrison fiasco then I can't see your gold lasting for long.

I'm pretty glad it's happening, although I wish I'd thought to stockpile tokens before the announcement :(

I can see casual player numbers plummeting (further) if they're put off/unable to pay reasonable gold prices (the monthly sub in money seems a very unattractive prospect for a lot of players with Blizzard's light content cycle)

To be fair to Blizz, they seem to be sticking to their promise of getting content out quicker with this expansion - we've already had a raid no one expected and another mythic dungeon and the next patch is already on the PTR and that has a load more new stuff.  I dont think we've ever had it so good in terms of them releasing new stuff so fast.

I can make 2k a day from the phone app and 1 set of minions - plus I sold all my DE mats/Bloods of S last night for about 50k. Can normallly do that once a month or so. Don't farm just get from playing WQ/

There's a promo running in Heroes of the Storm at the moment to get a Primal Flamesaber mount in WoW (and a nice HOTS mount too) if anyone's interested, you just need to play 15 games with a friend (very quick to do vs AI bots)

Happy to help if anyone wants a crack (mechamonkey#2531)
Edit: Shameless Recruit a friend link as we both get nice things if you use this

Spoiler

Well this is all rather weird. For the first time since Eredar Twins way back when, I'm 'on' the Cutting Edge instead of checking things out in fun runs after a new tier has come out - after defeating the true boss of Mythic Nightmare who had us stuck for weeks (Evil Fucking Bastard Tree, Jesus Christ he was an absolute shit), Cenarius and Xavius went down really fast without much incident. Given how much we struggled with Blackrock Foundry on Heroic, our progress in Legion has been surprisingly good, all things considered, though admittedly, we didn't even bother devoting time to the Trial of Valor (because it's rubbish!).

I didn't like the Nighthold much at first, the early bosses are all hilariously unfriendly for a poor, cleave-focused Chaos Bolt spammer like me - but by the time we reached the last group of Tichondrius - Tel'arn - Elisande - Gul'dan, the tide turned somewhat and I can Wreak Havoc with impunity. Gul'dan on Heroic is an end boss done nigh on perfectly - the fight doesn't take forever (despite his insane amount of health), the phases are varied, there's lots to deal with but nothing impossible, and it's just plain cool to see the old bastard hulk out and give it all for one glorious last showdown. Too bad about Xe'ra's awful husbando killstealing him at the end, I honestly wanted Gul'dan to escape while shouting "and I would have done it too if it hadn't been for you pesky murderhobos" because he's the best bad guy this side of the Lich King. Ah well.

Despite having numerous issues with class balance, specs, talents, and itemisation (my god, the tier set stats are awful, so much versatility, the shoulders are pretty much an abomination of uselessness in particular), I'm feeling rather positive about Legion at the moment. The set bonuses are brilliant in quality of life terms, I really enjoyed the Suramar campaign, my professions are maxed, M+ with pals is immense fun, I have Nightbane and a ghost moose, six (largely awful) legendaries, all but the PvP and Glory of the Hero artifact appearances unlocked, and more snazzy outfits than I can ever hope to choose from. Unlife is good.

Anyway, we've been checking out Mythic now and gonna be doing Trilliax tonight, who I utterly loathe but it appears he becomes a cleave fight now so hurrah and bring on the cakes.

Love to you all, see you anon...

Ulala, add me on battlenet and we can do mythics some time :)

After my alliance guild died a festive death during the Christmas period, I've gone slinking back to team red. After getting six characters to 110, I have to say the most "fun" (with fun obviously being a subjective thing), are my Monk (Brewmaster/Windwalker) and my Warlock (affliction for life!).

Bear druids are probably the strongest tanks right now but, goddamn, they're boring as hell. Blood DK is okay, but comparatively weak compared to other tanks. Also, the constant "sloosh sloosh" sound effect (to signify all the blood and gore you're flinging about) are bloody (haha) annoying. Protection paladin is strong but dull and protection warrior is...Jesus, they're so dull now. There is so little fun to be had with them now. Fury is ok but gear dependent as ever, and at my gear level (861) it doesn't perform as well as I'd like and arms is pretty crap.

Reactivated my account today, it's been too long, Warcraft helped me through a lot of tough times in the past and I'm hoping it will do the same now. Any guilds still about? I'll be starting from scratch, just asking purely for socialising.

I know it's a bit cheeky perhaps saying this, but if you haven't already, Zelda Breath of the Wild is very MMO-like. Gear upgrades, stats, enemies with stats, huge world to explore quests, side quests, a bajillion puzzle shrines, stuff to find and collect...

You probably already know, though.

Much like Azeroth, Nintendo have actually achieved somewhere I can actually see myself living this time around.

I'm starting again fresh to be honest, taking my time with it for a change, was only looking for people to socialise with to be honest but I'll see how this new server goes :)

Can I just take time out to publicly thank @Doctor Shark for all his help with me starting this game.

I've had masses of proper Noob questions and he's not only answered me every single time, regardless how rdisculous it may seem to him but has gone in to depth with his replies often giving me a mini-essay on the subject I've enquired about.

Half the reason I put off playing Wow for as long as I did was because I didn't know anyone else personally that played it so I always found the idea of starting out on my own with no real clue what I was doing quite daunting but having DS there to ask advice has really helped me starting out.

Thanks for taking time out bud, it's massively appreciated.

Haha, you're very welcome, bud :D

Glad to be of help! You may not be thanking me in a few months once you've seen how deep the rabbit hole really goes...And your wife certainly won't!

This is my favourite game of all time, and easily my most played. I could talk about it all day, every day quite happily and easily, and don't even get me started on the lore side of things!

It's just a shame we didn't do the recruit a friend thing, as we would have both got some free goodies. Ah well.

It's now exactly ten years since I started playing (TBC), so I decided to celebrate by signing up for a 2.4.3 private realm (Excalibur).

If anyone has any interest in joining me now would be the time I suppose. Setting it all up is only a matter of simply downloading their torrent.

Sunstrider Isle still gets me feeling all warm and fuzzy.

Urghh.. The warmth of GOD!! This is what taking heroin must feel like.

Scratch that.. I'm on Elysium instead. Seems to have the bigger population. Currently on 1.3, so Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair.

I really doubt I have the time for this... But let's see.

Wonder if there'll be an official Vanilla/TBC announcement at BlizzCon this year, after the controversy last year and then saying nothing at BlizzCon...

The effort put into remastering Starcraft gives a glimmer of hope, I guess.

It's a long shot, but it would also be nice if Blizzard looked into porting games to Linux. Considering 60% of my gaming time is still spent on blizzard games (hearthstone, diablo, heroes) I can just imagine the amount of goodwill bringing over to Linux could do.
