EDIT : VermillionSands, the actual gameplay (as in the battle system) is a lot more involved this time. There's like a rhythm based element to it and it's a lot more fun than the original battle systems. Also it's charming as fuck! You'll love it.

Oh excellent, I might give this a whirl then.

N00b question but I've got an M3 Simply DS which has GBA on the main menu, so can I just put GBA games on my miniSD that sits in the M3 itself, or do I also have to get a Slot-2 device (or find my old GBA SP as it's probably still in that....) ?

I bloody loved the first one but haven't tried Mother 2 yet at all but I don't want to faff about with buying another EZ Flash or something like that...

PS. Do you still get woken up by your mum in 2 & 3? Any game that starts with being woken by your mum is always good in my book.

No I mean speaking generally

You should play Mother 1 because it's a very early, but very awesome and rather traditional RPG.

Then you should play Mother 2 because it's fucking awesome, it's fucking awesome and it's a fucking awesome rather traditional RPG.

There's no story connection, but it will go down in history as one of the most progressively brilliant series of RPGs ever.

Nintendo will be absolutely fucking kicking themselves up the arse whenever the universal response to Mother 3 is "THIS GAME IS FUCKING BRILLIANT" upon release of the translation.

Oh yes :(

There's just so much to love about it. You've gotta love the rolling HP counters, which can cause moments of sheer button mashing panic as you try to get through the menus quickly after being hit with a crippling attack.

o/\o

It's rather ironic that whilst all these threads about Rock Band 2/Gears of War 2/Generic FPS Bollocks #65 are all constantly bumped with excitement, here stands a thread for a game thousands have been waiting for and are stupendously excited about, yet its all thanks to a small team of people who have slaved over the best part of the past two years to do something purely for the fans.

It better arrive tomorrow or I'm going to be shitting myself all weekend.

Well I've made it to Deep Darkness now, so I might be finished in time :(

You can do it, you just gotta believe! Actually, by now, you've probably finished it right? Man... that final boss!

Took me ages to realise I had to pray!

Also, it's "tomorrow" for me now... SO EXCITED/WHERE IS IT?

I've still got a GBA SP... can I not play Mother 3, tomorrow, in English, on it, without the need for some mad "M3 Simply DS Slot-2 device," whatever the fuck that is?

I've always wanted to play a Mother game, but I've never been too clued up on the emulation game, as you might have guessed.

You'll be wanting something like this to play it on your SP http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11179

It's been advised that people try and play it on real hardware since there are ever so slight faults with the sound on emulators which might affect the rhythm based battle system. Apparently it's nothing that you can't get used to but as you can imagine, playing it on proper hardware will probably be a better experience.

So, the latest news is that it'll be out within the next 24-48 hours, which means I'll probably be out when the internet explodes tomorrow when the patch is released. I hope they still have some bandwidth left when I get back!

But yes, whenever the patch is released a new Mother 3 English thread should be started with spoilers.

What's wrong with this thread? :)

Has anyone had much experience of this battle system? I'll probably be playing with no sound a lot of time, so am I going to be at a massive disadvantage? Is it easy enough to play without these combos?

Cool was the GBA version of Mother2 translated on the GBA?

I'm not aware of one for the GBA, but they've both been translated for their respective systems. I played through Earthbound on the Wii recently via the homebrew channel and Snes9x GX, and it worked perfectly if that's any help...
