Broken News, Bbc2

Only caught the last few minutes of this last night, enough to tell me it was pretty dire. I liked the concept of cutting away to other channels and stories though, if that technique was used with say actual news reports from the previous week, I think it would of worked a whole lot better.

BBC Points Of View thread

Amazingly, there are a handfull of people who actually like it!

Here's one of them one

Lord Cartman of St Albans :)

Who says ''Day Today v good. Broken News absolutely hilarious. Have some of you got a sense of humour? To quote 'The Times' review: 'an acutely observed and superbly performed send up of every conceivable form of television news''.

I didn't think it was *that* bad, although the Rev Chris Morris and his saviour The Day Today do not desevred to be mentioned in this topic.

Is was nowhere near as clever or satirical as any of the Morris productions, but it was quite accurate and the iTV and CNN news piss takes were pretty funny, if only to highlight how crap those respective news programs are.

They did seem more content at trying to write 'stupid' stories into the show than try to do satire with the stories. Tomato Flu vs. War? No chance.

Day Today is still the king by a long way tho. Those are the headlines, happy now?

Oh and it also had that delightful comedienne of 'The Comic side of 7 days' doing the entertainment news. Shes lovely. :)

Woeful. I could pick out many bits of the show which were swiped straight from the original Daddy of fake news. It amazes me this was green-lighted, but then again, there's been some pretty questionable material appearing on the BBC recently. I'm thinking of Bring Your Husband To Heel.

Points of View does fuck all - Wogan just jokes his way throughthe enraged licence payers.

Christ, you miserable sods. It really wasn't that bad - I watched it and found myself chuckling quite a few times (although I'll readily admit it wasn't the funniest show I've seen, it certainly wasn't half as bad as most of you lot are making out).

Maybe my standards are lower that those of most of the people here. If it means that I enjoy more stuff, then I'm all for it.

Yeah, I gleened some enjoyment from it. Obviously it doesn't touch TDT, but current news format still really needs to be satired and it's not like they could go and do the exact same format.

Got a few chuckles out of me at least.

I think if this was the first 'absurd news' programme it would have been pretty funny, but it's such an inferior facsimile of The Day Today that I just felt a bit sorry for it.

I quite liked the ultra-sycophantic film reviewer.

That's the problem here. Everyone instantly (and understandably) compares it to TDT, against which it doesn't really quite stand up. It might help if people didn't hold Chris Morris up as some sort of god on earth, capable of no wrong, however.

I mean, the ITV news parody was spot on. I pissed myself laughing during the "standing news" bit.

BBC should have just repeated The Day Today and saved a load of my effing license fee. TDT still stands as an accurate parody of current news programmes, no need for a shit retread.

I knew it was gonna suck when it stole the "shaft of frozen urine" idea from TDT in its first 5 minutes. It should die on its arse and never be shown again.

There is NO valid justification for it.:D:D

It wasn't utterly shit. Certainly not the worst thing on the BBC. Some ofBBC1's sitcoms are much shitter than this.

I liked the film reviewer going on how how much he fancied that acrtess, and then said she was as attractive as a tramp or something in her film.

I liked the stand up news.

I quite liked the local news.

I liked 'Hurricane Clint'.

If it was ten minutes long I think it would have been much better.

I thought it was okay, but not as good as the concept or the trailers suggested. Maybe the abrupt cuts were supposed to imply channel-flicking (or maybe it was to avoid the curse of sketches going on for too long), but it didn't work very well. But I did enjoy the reporter on the scene so early that he doesn't know any facts at all, some of the bizarre share names and a couple of other bits.

If it was ten minutes long I think it would have been much better.

I agree. I don't see how they're going to keep it going for a full series.
