oli
I absolutely love the Stone Roses. I think I love just about everything they've done, even Second Coming. Usually when you ask someone what their favourite album is, they have a tough time choosing one and it ends up being a top 5 or something. No way, without shadow of a doubt I can say that my favourite album of all time is the Stone Roses debut. Since I first got the album in about 1993 (late to it I know) I have always loved it, for me every track is perfection and I can quite happily listen to it over and over again. I don't think any other band, has ever hit such a chord with me as the Stone Roses, and while I wanted to like Ian Brown, The Seahorses or even John Squire as much as the Roses, nothing will ever be the same. Essentially I am just making this topic for everyone who actually liked the SR as much as I to show their love. Come on, they are a marvellous band, I dearly wish I could have seen them live at the height of their powers. I've seen Brown live, I've seen Squire live, both doing the Roses numbers, but one without the other is nothing. If only Brown, Squire, Reni and Mani would just get back together........ geldra
High Five and all that. Like you I can easily say that the debut is my favourite album of all time ever and i cant see that changing. I'm not sure i'd be too happy about the Roses reforming. Dont think it will happen anyway but if it did i'd be there regardless. I think Browny has moved on significantly from those days and i'm not too sure they'd be able to recapture the magic. The band as a whole have a certain charisma that i dont think has been equalled (for me) by a band since.

She on the hand can't stand the Stone Roses, and I simply can't appreciate anyone not liking them Oh can you narrow it down to a favourite Stone Roses song? Now that does change quite often, I am currently loving Bye Bye Badman
geldra
One song? Its obvious but Resurrection is just amazing and springs instantly to mind however i really love all of their tracks. I'd say Adored, Mersey Paradise, Where Angels Play, Somethings Burning, Ten Storey Love Song and Love Spreads are just lush........ The guitarist that Browny currently has playing live with him is fucking good like, comes really close to the Squire sound when covering the classics. I bought a Gretsch Country Gent just so i could attempt to make a noise something like 89' era Squire. Thats pretty embarassing.

geldra
Where and when did you see Squire Live? I went with outspaced to see him at Shepherds Bush a little while ago. What are your feelings on them reforming? Despite my feelings against it happening i'd secretly love to hear what they could put together these days. I really cant see Squire and Brown patching things up like, and from the noises coming from Brown (hoho) its Squire who has to make the effort. I dont mean that as a dig to you or anything, i didnt see them at their height, i saw them on the Second Coming tour and Wreni had already left. I think i'd rather they worked on new material if anything.
Hemlock
but Ian's got a Gallagher now doesn't he? also where are they from in UK that everyone looks the same? they could be twins. When i first say the video I had no idea who he (Ian) was (I mean I know who he is, but i did't know that was him) and i thought "who the fuck is this twat outng around trying to be a badass, then I realized who it was and thought, oh ok, nevermind
geldra
Noel Gallagher wrote the music for "Keep What Ya Got", Brown wrote the lyrics i think.

sofasurfer
The debut is my favourite album of all time and will always be. I bought it on cassette when it came out and all my mates laughed at me for buying a jangly indie band.Straight after Fools Gold they were all proclaiming them the best band in the world. Saw them at Spike Island and even if the sound was appaling it still was a great gig. Havent played The Second Coming in years but will have to give it another spin. Ian Brown has gone on record saying they will never reform and I hope they dont.Too many bands have gone down that path recently

Hawkeye
A great band. Their first album is one of my favourites and it reminds me of travelling on the bus to my first full-time job back in '89.

geldra
it must have been amazing to have been in or around the band around 89, i mean they must have been so creative and everything they wrote was pretty much classic stuff. Imagine coming up with stuff like resurrection, waterfall and she bangs the drums.....
Sardan
I love the Roses. I was 16 when the first album came out. It was a wicked time. Although I missed going to see them because I had an English GCSE exam the next day. With hindsight I'd have gone anyway. I went to the US for a year the week She Bangs the Drums came out, i.e. the time when they'd conquered the indie scene but hadn't really made the mainstream. I come back at Christmas to see the Chrsitmas TOTP which had both the Roses and the Mondays on. It was like entering a parallel universe where the niche indie bands I had liked were all of a sudden massive. When I came back for good the next summer everyone was wearing Roses t-shirts. Great band, great sound.

Melon_Bread
We were talking about the Stone Roses ealier on today at work. I think at the time their debut came out, Indie music was split into loads of little sub-sections, what with the goths, grebos, the dancy stuff, punky stuff, shoegazing etc but it seemed to me everyone loved this album it was fresh, different, downrigh brilliant, esp considering they used to be a goth band. choduk
also where are they from in UK that everyone looks the same? ← The Gallaghers are from Burnage in Manchester. IB is from Timperley just to the South of Manchester. Same village as me. He even went to the same Grammar school as I did. So for all intents and purposes we should have similar accents. But he seems to have picked up scally-manc from somewhere and he doesn't sound anything like anyone else from round here.
