Crackdown

It worked first time for me, are you sure you are pressing the "throw" action instead of "drop"? I'm not being funny but many people get them confused on this game as dropping something makes it fly a few metres away from your character.

It works every time doing it this way - make sure you are up to the highest level with the lights.

Your right I was dropping instead of throwing!

How dumb I must be ^_^

Thanks :D

  • 4 months later...

I'm only on my second playthrough, got 240ish agility orbs and 30ish hidden orbs. I've done NO driving at all, no races, no stunt markers and I've done only one rooftop race. Can't wait to play through it again.

Is the 800 points DLC worth getting at all? does it add more gangs/enemies?

Another question. I swear I saw something within the game that mentioned a 4 player co-op thing. I've just read about the game on the Wiki entry, and it doesn't mention any 4 player modes. Am I thick, or is it possible to play 4 players in Crackdown in any way?

I think the DLC was supposed to add 4-player co-op and races but they didn't have time to get that all in so it was canned. A shame, as 4-player would have been hilarious. :)

I'd be interested in doing the boss run on co-op psychotic for the 100G if anyone is man-up for it and has the time with the current glut of awesome games about.

Yes! I need to do this! Though I've been saying that about a load of games and then I get distracted and play something else instead.

Wanted to play Crackdown yesterday, but got a message that downloaded data was corrupt. As i got a new Xbox to replace my RRoD one i know i had to redownload the DLC in order to remove this. Because my internet connection wasn't working i just deleted the things that were installed so i could play, but when i started it up it showed the message that my save file was corrupted. Any way to fix this, or will i have to start from the beginning again?

I sat up to 2am last night, hunting for agility and hidden orbs. It's so fun just running around the streets, then climb a building and jump from rooftop to rooftop. I really, really, really hope we'll get a worthy sequel to this. ASAP.

I had the same problem a couple months ago, but playing it while connected to Xbox Live sorted it out.

Agility Orb collecting was so fun, I loved it too. What was the news with a sequel, didn't they say for ages no, and then recently that something might happen now?

I was asking pretty much the same thing in another thread, and got this link as a reply:

Looks like nothing but speculation so far, but the fact that Ruffian Games are made of about 50% of former Crackdown designers, it does sound a bit plausible (in a "I hope to god it's true" kind of way).

I wish I knew more folk who enjoyed this as much as me back when it was still popular on Live; for a no-frills sandbox title it's surprising how long a simple Keys to the City game could last. I had some amazing games with my friends and one or two folk from this forum, but with all the other great titles that came out, this kind of faded into the background. Reading back through this thread is great, and it's funny remembering that I wasn't alone in continuing to play this even whilst the Halo 3 beta was going - it's just such a good game, and went on to become my 2007 GOTY. I'd play it tonight, if only my 360 wasn't dead. :)

Like many i bought it for the Halo 3 beta :)

Turned out to be one of the best games i have played, far better than that other sandbox game, the name of which i have wiped from my memory !

Going to have to pick it up again after reading this thread again !

Hullo...

Have just decided to get back stuck into this and was wondering if anyone had any playing tips? The default playing difficulty of 'tough' seems on the easy side, but I keep getting my arse handed to me on anything higher. I guess it's because my tactic seems to be to run in and fire at everything, which may have worked in GTA IV, but is much more difficult without cover in Crackdown...

Should I be aiming to play more sneakily? How is it possible to prevent a base from going on full alert when you enter it?

The best plan is to level up more but just keep moving. Keep a close eye on your HP and run like a madman when its starts to get low. As your Marksmanship improves, you will be able to take out more enemies without them noticing, so just keep doing long range shots on the easy stuff to rank up. The longer you focus on them, the more accurate you will be but don't forget to crouch too.

You can get marksmanship points with any gun just as long as you shoot from far away, so get some practice on the easy stuff. :)

Pretty much every base has a way in around the back or similar that means you won't get spotted until you are virtually next to the boss. I found a couple of tactics useful, the rubbish one of killing one guard at a time, recovering, then moving on to the boss worked very well but was boring and slow. Much more fun was going on raids, running into the boss location, spraying around some mines, run out and set them off. If the boss still isn't dead you can run back in and shoot him to finish them off.

Playing co-op makes it really easy again, suicide runs to see who can get the kill on the boss and other tactics. With 2 players you can jump up the outside of Wangs tower all the to the roof with Wang on.

I've downloaded the free DLC and have been playing around with old achievements (Do all Time Trials on Psychotic - just the Shai Gen to go, but Wang is going take some time considering it took me about half an hour to beat him on Ruthless!) and some of the new ones.

"Body Armour" was hysterical, driving around in my van with bodies harpooned to the sides and flapping bonelessly as I tried to find new gang members to attach to the van. The Peacekeepers kept getting in the way (since it's impossible to harpoon a corpse to your vehicle) so I had to kill them first which often meant that I'd get shot by the wrong side as soon as I stepped out of my van.

The street races are throwaway fun, but would have been better as a proper multiplayer and I'm not convinced that the different vehicles add much to the experience.

The orb achievements are probably doomed without a map and a lot of patience. I've only got about 475 green orbs and around 100 of the hidden orbs.

In case this isn't sorted yet... The problem is that when DLC comes out the game receives an update over Live. Your Xbox can only store a certain amount of these before it starts overwriting them with new ones. Your save file clearly needs the latest update, but without being connected to Live you didn't get the offer to re-download it, so it says it's corrupt.

Play once connected to Live and it'll fix it.

The Crackdown theme is nice apart from saying Crackdown all over it. I wish they'd fucking quit with that.

I'd have bought it otherwise.

Just picked this up again today - it's friggin awesome isn't it :( Reset all the gangs and bouncing around ripping gangs apart as the fully powered agent is sublime.

With this theme just out I'm preying to the God of "nochance" that we might get some form of mass DLC for this announced at E3 like a few new gangs/weapons/vehicles all in the same city - maybe even a whole redistribution of new orbs and some achievements.

I'd be over the moon if it happened.
