The way I remember it is:

Stalagtites hang 'tight'

And Stalagmites.... umm.... 'might' trip you up if you don't look where you're going in a dark cave or something.

Don't you mean Stalactites? never heard of Stalagtites before.

The way I remember it is Stalactites are normally found on the ceiling i.e. top of a cave with the c in stalactities corresponding with ceiling and stalagmites are normally found on the ground with the g in stalagmites corresponding to ground. I think that's right

Anewman have you finished it yet? I've just beaten 8-5 and I move onto 8-6 on the map but I can't select it. Do I need to have collected all the Toads, or have something from the shop to unlock it?

Sorry dude, no idea.

I'm up to 6-3 - I've been playing it in dribs and drabs. It's a sweet sweet game, but all of a sudden I rediscovered Super Monkey Ball... Anyway, that's another story.

One thing I just noticed: at the start up screen you get when you first switch on the game, if you touch various parts of the map they animate. I found this ridiculously brilliant the first time I did it. Annnnd, if you switch the game on during the day (by the DS's clock) the start up screen is bathed in bright sunshine, whereas if you switch on at night, it's a nighttime scene.

It's the little things that impress, sometimes.

Anyway, with regards to what to do at 8-6, you might want to try the thread over at NTSC-uk ( http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=48784 ). They might be a little bit further along...

Or, I'm going to finish this game this weekend. So you could wait until then...

I was really enjoying searching out all the Toads. I have Worlds 1, 2 and 3 all 100%, but after that it gets a bit bitty...

I don't know whether to believe what that guy says about what happens on completion...

...that you get 24 more levels - if so, that's absolutely fantastic! In fact, come to think of it, there is a bit of space left on the individual world maps...

I read that somewhere else before. We'll definitely get a few.

I'd agree with you on the Toad front as well. Like you, my first maybe 4 worlds all have the Toads, but after that I didn't really look for them. Forcing you to find all of them to open the last level is a bit much, I think it'll seem more of a chore now.

I should be getting the game some time early next week so I was looking for translations and stuff and came across a walk through, which I glanced at to see how big the game is...

and yeah you do get the extra levels, but they are part of the worlds already there, so you get 3 more levels per world.

...cant wait for this next week, should be good.

So I'm now working may way through World 8. I'm almost to the boss - but I don't have all the toads yet so there will be a lot of back tracking and exploration for me (but actually I quite like that as it suits my completist tendencies).

World 8 is fantastic. Some quite tricky platforming sections, and some nice graphical touches and new features to the levels - which seem really well designed. It seems a shame Worlds 1 to 7 couldn't be so fun. They're good, because the controls are spot on, but they're not as interesting and challenging as they could be.

Also, I think the fact that you can buy extra moves and more energy/umbrella magic kind of ruins the game balance a bit. The fact that I now have 7 or 8 hearts worth of energy to play with means I'm not too bothered if I accidentally bump into a spiky rock or something. Also, the addition of the flying move for the umbrella (this allows you to hover in the air for a few seconds after you've jumped just by holding down the jump button) kind of kills off the challenge of some of the later platforming - which would otherwise have been really tricky, and would have required some real skill and concentration. It's not as well kind of implemented with the level design as, say, Mario's cape is in Mario World.

I guess the game is aimed at a youngish market, and so the difficulty level is probably a concious decision, but it removes some of the thrill of the game if you're not a 13 year old girl and are in fact a big hairy bloke.

I can't seem to find the final Toad on the second ghost house level, 3-2.

Ah, found it...

...hidden away on the very first section of the level. I also notice, for anyone on the hunt for toads, that if a toad is available in a certain section of a level, you will get a little jingle when you first enter the section to let you know it's there.

Completed.

CONGRATULATION!!! as it says at the end.

In the end finding the rest of the toads was a cinch. No real challenge there. I did get stuck on the final stage of Bowser, but only for about 5 minutes. And then Mario was rescued, in a quite satisfying (for some reason...) reversal of the usual roles.

And now I have a new umbrella move, and there are suddenly 3 more levels on each world to visit. In addition, the stars that the level markers had on them to indicate I'd got all the toads are gone. I went through 1-1 and 1-2, and collected 2 puzzle pieces and a music box from each, and the stars returned - so it looks like I'm on another collectemup.

But with new levels, which I think is pretty sweet.

Overall, it's a very relaxed platforming experience. Mario light, but very pleasing on the eye. It all bodes very well for Mario DS anyway.

I'm loving this so far- it's a nice, relaxing game to play. It reminds me of a sedate Yoshi's Island; they have a similar graphic style, there are various things to collect in each level, Yoshi turns enemies into eggs and Peach turns enemies into the emotion bar.

I can't work out how to kill the fourth boss though (the caterpillar). I can get it to turn upside down, but no amount of jumping on it or using emotions against it can damage it in any way once it's on it's back

That's odd...

You should see that one of it's sections is a slightly different colour than the rest. That's the one you need to jump on, after you've flipped it of course.

Hang on a sec, my memory might be failing...

Right, I've just had a crack at it myself...

You have to flip him, then one of the sections is a different colour. Then you need to run underneath him (you know how you can run along on the floor of the level, below the raised bit that he's running backwards and forwards on?) and use your anger emotion to flame the differently coloured section.

Which is completely different to what I originally said, isn't it?

But that's because I have a rubbish memory.
