Ninja Gaiden Black

It strange how the casual videogame buying American seemed to have FAR better taste than the so called casuals over here. Maybe it is because they were all brought up on a strict Nintendo diet as kids. The Chav/Ned scum cunts are killing Videogames over here. They buy absolute fucking dross and the quality games are ignored leading to publishers being conservative with left field game releases in Europe. See Katamari, releases in the US to some success, if released here it will BOMB. Only the hardcore will buy it.

I agree with you on this, actually. It's kinda bizarre really - is their market simply more educated re videogames than ours?

Could it be that their computer market never was as big, so they missed out on a lot of the dross that came with the 8-bits? At least Sega and Nintendo had some kind of quality control going on, which filtered out the real, utter shit out there?

I got a pre-order copy no probs. Maybe retailers are shy of giving it prominence because at £20 the margin is too low - also it is rated 18 because the decapitations left out of the original PAL version are included. The Americans love this and rightly so. Get it and forget about 360 preorder allocations!

How long does it take to get good at this then? Because I have to admit I'm doing fairly shit. I just want to be able to get through the first level without using any items but I always seem to fuck it up at some stage. I can get through to the horse boss just with sheer bloody mindedness and using items but it feels like I'm still button mashing y'know? And when I keep getting killed while trying to think about it more it sends me into Hulk Smash mood for a good half hour.

Been reading some combat guides and stuff and trying some of the basic extra moves like Instant charging and combo cancelling but I don't seem to be fast enough to put it to any good use. I've never really got good at any fighting games, especially tecmo ones - with them I can never seem to see them as something other than button bashers no matter what other people say to the opposite. I guess I'm kinda surprised at how much like a fighting game it is, when I thought I'd be pretty good at it since I've always enjoyed (and been reasonable at) the Devil May Cry series say.

The first level is very hard as the devs decided to show the players from the start that this game won't be a walk in the park. So, only being able to get through the first level with the use of items is nothing to be ashamed of .

Regarding how long it takes to really get grips with the game. I'd say it should be around the 7-10 hour mark. I remember at first I was so overwhelmed by the game, there was wall-running, so many combo's, techniques and the speed of the game was so fast, I thought I would never adapt. But, suddenly everything clicks and you're slashing your way through like a real ninja with style. So awesome.

I'm sure I read some months ago that the game would be a third faster, and the camera moveable? Correct?

I don't care, I'm getting it anyway, hard is definitely doable and I'm no great player. I got about half way through on it, however I kept playing through it on normal as I enjoyed it more.

Dunno about faster but you can definately move the camera, right click toggles whether the right stick causes you to go into first person view or just moves the camera around but it doesn't seem to remember and always goes back to first person again  I still think the camera is shite, I read a few FAQs that said it was just misunderstood but lacked any real explanation of why it was good. With most of the enemies having silent attacks it doesn't seem as fair as DMC where you're pretty much warned of everything even if you can't see it.

I never had any problem with the camera really. In tight areas I'd tend to just stay away from corners. Which is crap I know, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment.

I can't believe you have to complete it on hard to see the mission mode. What a farce. It's almost as stupid as me never being able to play the original games, because I could only find 47 scarabs. Even though I'd run through the game 4 times.

It's great like that. It gets you to a point where you begin to get comfortable then BAM! A new challenge. The beauty of the game for me is that some of the enemies seem literally impossible to begin with. An hour later and you're running rings around them.

Is hard unlocked from the start if the game finds your NG normal difficulty cleared save?

I've read that you only have to complete it on normal mode to unlock mission mode. If that turns out not to be the case, then it's by far and away the most mean spirited design decision I've ever come across.

I tried it on hard, and I'd say it's definitely harder than the hard setting of the previous Ninja Gaiden release. I got quite far in hard in that, but can't get out of the training area with Black.

Ok, I'm playing through on Hard, I'm in the city now. It is much harder than the hard mode in the original, as enemies have been changed and not just increased in numbers.

All enemies now have a throw move on hard mode, this means the black ninjas are a new fight, and you can't just continually block. The first level was harder than the second and third though, strangely.

I'm enjoying it, but I can foresee bits I struggled with on Normal that I'm really going to struggle with on Hard.

Ninja Gaidan . What can you say? This time around (NGB normal) i've beaten various bosses without taking a scratch but others have soundly kicked my ass. The main differences from the original game seem to be shinier textures and meaner later bosses where cheap solutions have been removed. As for length of the game, it all depends whether you need / want to farm essence. To upgrade the stick into the final weapon takes 300,000 essence so that will take a while to gather.

And yes it is 15 rated not 18 as earlier posted.

The only issues are the camera (got slightly worse in Black?) and the use of x button to both open doors and as your basic attack - very annoying to have to play through a room again accidentally.

Also are the bee fiends more aggressive this time around? I remember slicing them up easily before but now they seem harder.

I steered clear of Ninja Gaiden due to its purported difficulty (Viewtiful Joe was enough for me, thanks), but if there's an easier setting, I can at least try that before trying Normal.

UK resistance have written a very enthusiastic review of it. The last review of theirs I read was for OutRun 2, which I bought on the strength of their totally biased but infectiously gleeful review, and I didn't regret that.

Might be a xmas purchase for me.

How many levels are there? I think Im on the 6/7 level and the boss is a right bitch.

Off the top of my head, 15. Possibly 16, if the relatively short last section is regarded as a seperate chapter, which I can't remember.

The chapter 6/7 boss is generally regarded the hardest in the game, so once you're past that (while it's still fucking tough, and there are plenty of other bastard bosses) there aren't any more difficulty spikes that severe.

It's worth mentioning that while being on level 7 of a 15-level game could be regarded as half-way, it's really more like a third, if not less. The chapters get longer later on and it's suprisingly lengthy, you've got plenty more to go.
