Gears Of War

I know, as were all the bosses in Gears. My (intended) point was that at least he (and the the others) had the decency to be easy.

There are only two aren't there? Both are pretty bad examples of bosses, and totally superfluous. It's as if Halo never happened.

As for Raam being easy, I have yet to defeat him. I seem to be dying randomly even when I keep in the light areas. I haven't really bothered with him that much though cos it's just so unenjoyable but I intend to finish the game.

It's just rubbish that he can withstand headshots, coupled with the worst aspect of the game overall; Kryll. They make The Flood seem like the best enemies ever.

It's too short a game for my money. I hear the PC version is to include five new chapters effectively doubling the size. I wonder how much Xbox owners are gonna be stung for them.

I don't have the bow. I know how to kill him, it's just annoying me so I turned it off.

All the weapons and ammo you need are lying in alcoves in the area immediately before you enter Raam's place.

On a side note, the french are really nice to play with, aren't they? So polite and forgiving of shit attempts to communicate ("sniper a gauche! help me up, merci dude, ou sont ils?" and so forth). Magic.

The are so invited tomorrow.

I hope to get some quality sneaking in. :)

My magic chainsaw will surely find Gwyn again this Friday!

Use a torque bow shot to disperse the Kryll, then active Lancer the fuck out of him

Don't get me wrong, I know how to kill him, and i've done him on every difficulty. At first though he seemed too hard, given that he'd always come right up to me before I could kill him, and any attempt to run to different cover would result in either a Kryll death (even in the light) or being torn to shreds by his gun in miliseconds.

Bow is the best weapon. I killed 3 people on a ranked match in canals last night with a single bolt. They were too close together..boom..splat.

I remember in one of my earliest online games with some forumites, over five rounds I managed 18 kills, the majority of them with the bow.

THUNK. 'SPLODE. Over and over and over again.

I'll bet that was annoying.

I'm going to try taking my laptop into the projector room with me this time, so when gay boy weakbows me for the 5th time I can just make emo posts on here instead of rage quitting like I normally have to do.

When I host I usually replace the torque bow and sniper with grenades. Nobody should ever die in GoW Execution without any warning, I think it's completely against the point of the gametype. You shouldn't ever have to die without 'committing' to an encounter with an enemy. Whenever I get one-shotted across a map I wish I was playing something fair like CS Source.

I don't like the 3-downs TKO rule either, as it means people can do the same with the Lancer if they're boring enough. A 90 second timer, no dying while standing up unless chainsawed or tagged, and no down limit would make it basically perfect. Nobody would die outside of a fair fight, and nobody would hide behind a mile's length of Lancer fire.

That these things are omitted makes me question whether Epic learned anything from conquering the deathmatch market all those years ago. The bleedout timer doesn't even go below 5 seconds, which is enough time to run from one side of the depot warehouse to the other (and get a stamp-kill in if you have host advantage).

Shit customisations and netcode aside, the community is still amazing when you find it. Some are amazing from the start, like the chilled out frenchmen from Friday night as well as a few more I've been playing with over the week. Some take getting used to, like the teenagers who scream abuse but really aren't much better or worse at the game than anyone else, and can take as much trash talk as they can dish out.

The only people I hate in the game are the weird pros who join games, destroy entire teams without participating in conversation, rely on cheap tactics and weapons, and basically don't play like gentlemen. I'm not talking about Anth at all, I mean the freaks who just ghost the map while everyone else is laughing and having fun in the middle of a fight, before turning up to clinically assassinate whoever's survived the fracas, usually from behind. Why would you play specifically to piss people off like that?

Bought this game this morning for £25 in Game with the £10 in credit I got from buying the 360 elite in the first place. It looks very impressive, and the grenades feel very satisfying, yet suicidal to use. How long does it roughly take to complete the game? I feel like im flying through it, but I guess I can go back and replay it in a harder mode. Anyway, it seems like another worthy good buy on the 360 for me. ;) Still need to get the wireless bit for the 360 so I can play this online.

Trash talking drink fuelled Execution sessions with mates is where it's at. Oh yeah.

If you're playing this on anything less than, erm, whichever one the middle difficulty was, then you doing yourself and it a disservice.

Hardcore.

It really is aptly described in the little bit under the name, too. Nobody who's played a first or third person shooter before should even consider playing on Casual. Casual really is for amateurs who are still getting to grips with dual sticks.

To prove a point, I managed to do the entire first chapter of Gears on Casual without using the cover system once. I was just running and gunning every step of the way. It was gloriously idiotic, and demonstrates just how numptied down the Casual setting is.

On Hardcore and Insane, you don't take cover, you die - as it should be in a stop and pop shooter.

:D To be honest I was finding it a bit easy, so I might actually replay it with a harder mode now. I have just got to the bit where its got dark and the birds (or whatever they are) are eating me alive if I stray from the lights. So far the gameplay has been top notch and I havent got fed up of playing it yet. Suffered from a bit of motion sickness earlier, but it was only minor compared to games like Half-life 2 etc.

Still, I cant imagine it would take that long to get back to that point in the difficulty up from Casual. Co-op looks like fun, but ill have to buy another controller for that. Keep thinking the 360 is going to burn a hole in my floor with the amount it is being worked out to display graphics like these on the screen ^_^

The final boss is only difficult on insane mode, tbh.

Gears of War is one of the best games I've played, I'm really looking forward to the sequel. I loved how it seemed to be designed from the ground up with online co-op play in mind, it worked fantastically well and was a very unique experience.

That's it. I haven't played Gears online for ages now (half a year, at least) and I really want to get back into this. Fired up a few quick matches just an hour ago, and I got my ass handed to me as if it were the first time I played this.

Holy fuck, some people are beasts with the shotgun. And how the hell did some players get on top of a container in the middle of Fuel Depot? ^_^ At least grenade-tagging seems to have lost some of its popularity.

Anyway, would love to organize some matches with some of you rllmukers. You know, to familiarize myself with the game on a competitive level again without feeling like a proper tit. Any takers?
