    Xbox Game Pass

In various console threads the topic of somebody doing a Netflix style service for games comes up. Looks like MS are going to be offering something like that. EA Access already does something similar, but it's pretty limited as it's just EA games (as the name suggests). Confirmed publishers (from NeoGAF).
  2. I was requested to add this Google spreadsheet for people to share their gamer tags: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EHykfNx3wKSen3j64cCP2Bgr9tusBPtPXkitPAPAMxM/edit?usp=sharing Fixing a 'Bricked' Console (Green boot up screen, then hangs at black) Your console is not bricked you are fine. No need for the USB recovery either - since the 1603 build you can self recover via this cool method Try this: Hold down the power button on the front of your Xbox One console until it fully powers down, unplug the power cord, and wait 30 seconds. Please note the console must be fully powered down; the next steps will not work if the console is powered on from connected standby. Plug the power cord back in. PRESS the POWER Button then Hold down the Bind button (located on the side of the console next to the USB port) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console next to the optical disc slot), continue holding down Bind and Eject until you hear a second “power up” chime. Then SELECT Reset this Xbox - This Troubleshooter takes the User to a page that allows them to select full reset or reset but keep content (this allows you to keep your installed games and settings!) Official patch notes: https://www.nomanssky.com/next-update/ Trailer NEXT is the latest, free update to No Man's Sky. This builds upon the three previous updates: Foundation, Path Finder, and Atlas Rising. The major additions with NEXT are: Here's a NEXT preview by Eurogamer. Other notable new features: Resources for New and Returning Players How do I...? Rocket jump: Tap melee and jetpack in quick succession and you'll perform a boosted rocket jump that moves you a fair amount forward. Bear in mind that this causes life support to drop quicker than usual (as does any use of jetpack), for a split second, which is critical if you're playing Permadeath or Survival mode. Toggle first person/3rd person view: press down on the d-pad and scroll left or right until you come to the camera options. Note: there are separate toggles for flight and while on foot. If you toggled 3rd person while walking, you'll have to do it again while flying if you want 3rd person for both. Get a freighter: given this is kinda part of normal progression, I'll put it in a spoiler. It's not really a spoiler, per se Get nanites: Call up your scanner while on foot and scan flora and fauna. Go to the Discoveries tab in Options (PS4 pad) and upload the discovery to get nanites. Nanites no longer take up inventory space, and it's much easier to get them. General FAQs Eurogamer guide for new players (seems pretty comprehensive)
  8. I know we have dedicated next-gen threads, but I started a fresh one for this because at this point in the cycle any specific discussions will end up buried under the avalanche of ZOMG MY STATUS JUST CHANGED TO PUTTING STAMPS ON THE PARCEL!!! The headset that comes with the PS4 looks like it was made by Blue Peter, the Xbone headset looks better but I up imagine a lot will want to replace with their own. What recommendations do people have for decent headsets to use with next-gen. I understand that the PS4 will use pretty much any headset as long as it has the right jack. Anyone have any recommendations for a decent over-one-ear + mic model (as I still want to hear the game audio through the TV)?
  9. CGI announcement trailer: First proper trailer: Gameplay details from reddit Q&A: - Sniper rifle carried in case and needs to be assembled/packed up again rather than the magic pockets of Absolution - Hiding gun behind back when near NPCs from Blood Money returns - 'accident' hits for targets return - minimap now tells you where disguises are effective - full-screen map also returns with points of interest marked - Diana gives updates over the earpiece e.g telling you movements of the target - some comedy disguises seem to be back - alerts can trigger lockdowns - civvies leave the area and security conduct a sweep, after which everything returns to normal. These can be triggered strategically e.g by activating fire alarms - guards alertness indicated by yellow/red markers over their heads - certain guards are 'observant' meaning they will bust your disguise more easily. This is often logical, such as head-of-security knowing all his staff. These guards are marked on the minimap to avoid trial and error. - metal detector checkpoints return - save anywhere instead of checkpoints - guards can find mines you've places and will take them away for investigation (much like guards finding your specialist guns lying around in Blood Money and taking them back to the security room). - a form of 'Instinct' seem to return, like Batman's detective vision, highlighting points of entry/egress and guards. - shoving people returns. Including over railings. - throwing objects seems to have returned - choose weapons and equipment before entering a level - David Bateson voicing 47 again - Gameplay closest to Blood Money out of any game in the series Videogamer preview http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/hitman/preview-3901.html "More Blood Money than Absolution" "Going by the initial presentation, Hitman appears to be the game fans have been waiting for since 2006's Hitman: Blood Money, with huge sandbox environments and an unprecedented amount of opportunities to assassinate your target" Announcement blurb:

    Planet Alpha

Picked this up on Switch. It looks pretty bad on TV mode (playing on a 4k set admittedly) but better - if basic - on handheld. Gameplay is pretty basic. I guess I was hoping for a Inside/Limbo with Sci Fi sort of thing but no such luck. The music is quite atmospheric but maybe as I’m playing it on Switch I don’t get the same sense of awe that I got from the trailers. Frame rate chugs on a few occasions though nothing too serious. Some bits (I’m an hour or so in) are quite creepy and scary but as the checkpoints are so generous there’s no real feeling of tension or fear. I’m disappointed as I was looking forward to this.
  14. Thought this deserved its own topic as it's getting rather good reviews and is out tomorrow. It's a several hours long walking simulator, which seems like the perfect antidote to the lengthy epics we've been getting over the past few months. The hook of the game seems to be a more morbid Gone Home. You play as a girl returning to her family home and exploring the rooms of her now long-dead relatives. So far, so derivative. But what sets it apart is that you play as a participant in each family member's death via flashbacks. While most reviews have wisely steered clear of spoiling too much, these are meant to be extremely diverse (in terms of both presentation and tone), imaginative and often very sad. It's from The Unfinished Swan devs and although there aren't tons of reviews out yet, the ones that are look really promising. It's out tomorrow for £15.99, but if you preorder it on PSN today and are a Plus member, it's £12.79.

    EA Access

  16. Graphics in the style of old Fleischer cartoons. Looks damn nice.
  17. Beamdog are partnering with Skybound games to bring all the classic Infinity Engine RPGs over in their EE versions, plus Neverwinter Nights. No further details as of yet. I was wondering what Beamdog were up to after Phil Daigle left - Trent has been busy forging weapons in his garage in his spare time, but this is tremendous news. Games are Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition The code for Icewind Dale 2 has apparently been lost, so this is the lot. Now confirmed as physical bundles and single digital editions - Baldurs Gate games Planescape Torment + Icewind Dale Neverwinter nights + "DLC" (coming early December)

  20. I've posted about this before in the Kickstarter thread, but even though the game is crowd-funded it's not actually on Kickstarter (it's a fixed funding project on Indiegogo instead) and that thread perhaps doesn't give it the exposure it deserves. The game is in its last week of funding and still needs about 300k at the time of writing, so any help is welcome at this stage, So what is Indivisible? In short, it's a hybrid of a 2D Metroidvania game (in that it has a large interconnected map, platforming, areas that are locked off until you have certain items or skills, secrets and even some sequence breaking) and an RPG, most notably in its party management, leveling and battle system. Combat is heavily inspired by Valkyrie Profile in that each character in your four-person party is mapped to a button, with directional inputs adding more moves. Combat is not turn-based. You can attack as long as you have meter, so meter management plays an extremely important role in combat. The game is made by Lab Zero Games, the team that brought you Skullgirls. Here's their campaign video: This is by no means final, but what is cool is that everything you see in there is already playable. Lab Zero released a free playable prototype for Linux, Windows, Mac, Steam and PS4. Even though it's just the tip of the iceberg, it plays really well and has some cool stuff for expert players in it, like a secret boss and sequence breaking for speedruns and pacifist runs. If you want to read what they plan on adding, this post from the design director goes into great detail: http://indivisiblegame.com/blog/building-on-the-indivisible-prototype/ Combat is already pretty damn fun and you can see how much the additions above will add to the strategy. The way attacks link, with certain attacks setting enemies up for juggling, attacks having different status effects (like putting slow down on an enemy) and the different effects for the supers of each character can all be glimpsed in the prototype, and that's without all the additional characters, weapons, stat differentiation and tech like guard breaks, buffs/debuffs and so on. Other things of note: - Your party consists of your character and three Incarnations, Now what's cool about these Incarnations is that they - like the enemies - are based on a wide variety of mythologies and cultures from all over the world. This results in an incredibly diverse cast of characters. You can read all about the Incarnations that have been revealed up to this point here: http://labzerogames.com/indiv-incarnations/ - Music is composed by Hiroki Kikuta, most famous for Secret of Mana. - The game will have many crossover indie stars that will be playable, including Juan from Guacamelee, the Drifter from Hyper Light Drifter and Shovel Knight. The final one will be revealed tomorrow, with some people expecting it to be Miriam from Bloodstained or one of the characters from Undertale. We'll see. Here are the ones revealed so far: There's tons more on their campaign site, including a cost breakdown, the different tiers etc. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/indivisible-rpg-from-the-creators-of-skullgirls#/ So, please help if you're interested.
  21. Another very short trailer on this one, with Spiders moving right away from the Mars War Logs / Technomancer universe into something more fantasy inspired.
