  4. This game came out recently across all platforms and is incredible. It mixes genres really well and is a: Metroidvania, Platforming game with pinball mechanics. The art style is lovely and the music is joyful. Despite being fairly short, it has fantastic pacing. Check out videos below then go ahead and buy it. It is already one of the games of the year in my opinion. Buy it Xbox Playstation PC Switch
  5. There doesn't seem to be a thread for this so here goes. Made by Deck 13 interactive, the people who brought you Lords of the Fallen, a perfectly competent fantasy game which probably suffered rather than gained from the Dark Souls comparisons. This seems to be moving into mech v mech combat in a big way (or perhaps more accurately big men in metal suits versus same) but glancing at some of the published previews retains considerable Dark Souls DNA in terms of mechanics so those comparisons aren't going away any time too soon (if you die you need to fight your way back rather than avoid enemies to retain the souls scrap). There seems to have been little on-line or magazine exposure but the release date is now set for just two months time. https://www.pcgamesn.com/the-surge/the-surge-gameplay-preview reasonably recent developer supervised hands on https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/02/08/the-surge-limb-crafting/ and a second.
  6. Yeah, that Croteam. Makers of the batshit insane Serious Sam series. They had these puzzle mechanics in place for Serious Sam and decided they were good enough to build a separate game around them. But instead of going for the quirky Portal (the game it will be compared to most) route, they decided to let Jonas Kyratzes (The Sea Will Claim Everything) and Tom Jubert (FTL, The Swapper) write a philosophical narrative for it, focussing on themes like humanity and free will. The puzzles themselves are beam puzzles, the likes of which you've seen in games like the Portal and Zelda series, or Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, but with Croteam's own spin on them and it is set in these rather beautiful quaint environments. Reviews are coming out and they are really, really good. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-12-09-the-talos-principle-review http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/12/08/the-talos-principle/ Game will be out this week on Steam. Definitely gonna buy it as I love a good puzzle game and Jubert is one of the most interesting writers in gaming. This interview goes into more detail: http://gamingbolt.com/the-talos-principle-interview-ps4s-very-own-first-person-philosophical-puzzler-that-is-not-portal Here's a small teaser as well:
  7. Konami’s classic run-and-gun franchise Contra seems to be back. And no, it's not a pachinko machine. On Tuesday, Konami revealed Contra Rogue Corps, a new over-the-top entry in the series. Two years after the Alien Wars had ended, a mysterious area called the Damned City arose from the grounds where the final battles took place. Ruthless Fiends roamed the area, bringing a world full of madness. In the midst of chaos, 5 scoundrels emerge...they are the Rogue Corps. They do not look anything like heroes of justice, but have they come to save humanity, or maybe they are looking to hit the jackpot by searching the Damned City for treasures...either way, the fate of the world is in their hands. Contra Rogue Corps trades the traditional side-scrolling perspective for a top-down isometric view of the action, like previously done in Super C and Contra 3: The Alien Wars. Players will shoot up Damned City, both as classic Contra characters like Kaiser, a mutated bug and ... a panda bear? Official E3 2019 trailer: Contra Rogue Corps will feature single-player and multiplayer gameplay when it launches on September 26.
  8. The inspiration for our game Humanity came from thinking of how a transcendental being would interpret “human-like” behaviour. Very uneasy feelings watching this - strangely harrowing to see all those people move in a uniform way and... die? What is it? Another puzzle game? An RTS? An application? Made by Enhance Games (Tetsuya Mizuguchi) and tha*. which isn't Aphex Twin but web designer Yugo Nakamura. Will play.
  9. By Infinite Fall Official Site | Steam | GoG | PS4 Release date: February 21, 2017 ABOUT IMAGES VIDEOS If you're like me and like your games to be short and sweet or 'all killer, no filler' then Night in the Woods seems like another... winner! I've been enjoying these narrative focused games a lot as of late and titles like Life is Strange, Oxenfree, Inside, Kentucky Route Zero, Firewatch, etc all do a terrific job of telling a story without being self indulgent* or having to rely on padding to increase their play time. That being said I do feel like some of these games are a bit too pricey though. This is currently €20 on Steam which I feel is a bit too high considering it will most likely be a 4 to 6 hour game. Then again it might very well end up being worth every penny so who knows. I hope we'll get some reviews soon as it does look very promising. *This does not apply to Dear Esther as even though I was a fan of that game I think we can all agree that its writing was kind of taking the piss, to say the least.

    Firewatch

Firewatch is a mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio. In Firewatch you play as a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot and dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor, a woman named Delilah, is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio - and is your only contact with the world you’ve left behind. But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the world, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making interpersonal choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have. Campo Santo development blog Firewatch FAQ Firewatch Merch - - - So Campo Santo (for those of who who don't know) is the new studio from Jake Rodkin, Sean Vanaman, (both previously from Telltale Games, also from Idle Thumbs), renowned artist Olly Moss, Lead designer on Mark of the Ninja Nels Anderson, former Double Fine guy Chris Remo, and a few others. And from the description and artwork alone, this could be something really special.
  12. The Mirror's Edge Twitter and Facebook just had this posted on them, so it looks like they're gearing up for a full gameplay reveal this E3. They've previously said the game will release early 2016, but we know so little about the game, that maybe a surprise 2015 release isn't completely out of the question. Early Concept Footage + Developers talking rubbish at E3 2013 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb60vP2PHaw It's been a long time coming, but it's finally happening.
  13. This was announced at Gamescom earlier and is due to release next year. I thought the first game was very atmospheric and had a lot of potential but felt disappointingly short. Hopefully the developers have got a bit more money and manpower behind them this time to make something more elaborate. The trailer, with its various locations and new gameplay elements, suggests something a bit more substantial, at least. One to watch.

    Thumper

It's about time there was a thread for Thumper. It's a rhythm action game with a space beetle from ex Harmonix developers, coming to Steam, PS4/PSVR. Check out the latest trailer!
  15. A thread of speculation. Bluepoint Games are, in my opinion, the best in the business in porting games to new platforms and go above and beyond. Be that in even attempting to port Titanfall to Xbox 360, to the Uncharted Collection with its control tweaks and extra modes. The last game they released was over a year ago, Gravity Rush Remastered, and have been silent since. The only clue of their current project is this statement: What is it they are working on? My guesses: Demon Souls Remastered - clearly a game that could do with a little bit of polish, and definitely something fans would be eager to revisit. Shenmue 1 and 2 - Remaking Shenmue so that it is not just a port and upscale, would clearly be a huge undertaking. There is plenty of scope to rethink, systems, control mechanics, and the information that is shared between the two games.
  16. It's a coming! Without the limitations of Flash I think it'll be amazing! Looks like they had fun making the teaser.
  17. Out Now Price: £14.99 Metacritic: 82 So on the eve of Bloodstained getting released, a small indie game has been released on the Switch eshop and on Xbox (it released last year on the PS4 and Steam) called Timespinner. And it's Castlevania. No seriously, it's Castlevania. Look at the map! Basically, you play a young girl who travels through time to try and stop an Empire from destroying her homeland. This involves travelling from the past to the present in an effort to figure out a way to reach the Emperor and kill him. So there's castles. And backtracking. And big, screen filling bosses. And it's great. Seriously, if you're a fan of the old DS Castlevanias, give it a go. You won't be disappointed.

  21. Couldn't see a thread for this, so I thought I'd start one, cos it looks pretty nice. Gain experience during those fights, while progressing in the storyline or by accomplishing numerous side quests. Evolve your characters, learn new skills and spells, and become the hero who will unify the civilizations of Mahera. ACG gave it a buy:
  22. I'm so happy this is getting a release over here! Disaster Report 4 is the latest in the Disaster Report / Raw Danger / SOS: Final Escape series and this release has had a long road to get here. DR4 was originally due to be released on PS3 but then the Japan earthquake happened and the game was cancelled indefinitely. A few years passed and fans were still upset at the cancellation and so new company Granzella (former IREM employees) formed and acquired the rights. They made some PlayStation Home content (£££) and then set to work on developing DR4 again from scratch. I'm currently playing DR1 - it has a lot of terrible dialogue, but the game is oddly serene in its pace as you try to navigate to safety - it doesn't really have strong survival mechanics (like say Don't Starve) but the looming threat that any part of the environment might fall apart at any time. Disaster Report 4 is due early 2020 on PC, PS4 and Switch. Past Releases 2003 - SOS: Final Escape (DR1) - PS2 2007 - Raw Danger! (DR2) - PS2 2009 - Disaster Report 3 (Japan only) - PSP
  23. I couldn't find a thread for this so I thought I'd just make one instead of burying discussion of it in one of the Switch threads. I bought it in the recent eshop sale after enjoying the demo and reading lots of good reviews. Unfortunately, I seem to be completely terrible at it and can't get beyond the second stage of the first boss (the second non-checkpointed track, after the opening credits - it's called 'New Game'). Am I doing something wrong or is the game just bastard hard? I sailed through the initial non 'boss' songs fairly easily and enjoyed the way the shapes mirrored the music, and although I was able to complete the first stage of the boss after a few goes, I can't seem to get more than half way through the second stage. The pink projectiles fly onto the screen so quickly that it seems more a case of playing each track a dozen times until you remember where you can and can't go, as opposed to reacting to the environment in real time, if that makes sense. What are your experiences of it? At the moment I'm seriously tempted to wuss out and turn on casual mode.
