  1. Not much detail on plot, but Netflix, with Skydance, are apparently spending about $150m on an action thriller movie directed by Michael Bay, starring Ryan Reynolds and written by Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. There will probably be explosions. Supposed to start shooting in summer for release next year. Unconfirmed reports from "sources" say it's about six billionaires who fake their deaths and form an elite team to take down bad guys.
  2. http://deadline.com/2018/05/guillermo-del-toro-live-action-horror-anthology-series-10-after-midnight-netflix-1202387868/ del Toro and Netflix are doing a horror anthology series. He will write and direct some and pick writers and directors for others.
  3. Couldn’t find a thread. I quite like this. I require the comments of other people to understand if I’m right or wrong. 4 episodes in now and it’s developing quite nicely.
  4. Netflix and Dreamworks (now owned by Universal's parent company) are bringing an animated Fast & Furious show to the world. It's a spin-off from the main movie series, led by Dom's cousin, Tony Toretto. Like his cousin, he gets involved in a shadowy government agency. Tony and his crew infiltrate a racing league which is a front for a crime organisation. Obviously.
  5. http://deadline.com/2018/03/cursed-netflix-tv-series-frank-miller-tom-wheeler-based-on-book-reimagining-king-arthur-legend-lady-of-the-lake-1202354796/ Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler are simultaneously writing an illustrated book and a 10 episode series for Netflix, named Cursed. It's a re-imagining of the King Arthur legend from the point of view of Nimue, the Lady of the Lake. The book is due out in Autumn 2019. Don't know about the show, maybe a similar time for cross promotion.
  6. New show based on a George RR Martin novella, which was previously adapted as a movie in 1987. Some scientists and a telepath travel on a spaceship, Nightflyer, to the edge of the solar system to try to contact alien life. Things go wrong. Co-produced by SyFy and Netflix, with Netflix having international rights. GRRM isn't directly involved in the show (apart from appearing in the trailer below), keeping busy on other stuff, but does get credited as Executive Producer. Apparently filmed in Limerick, where I didn't even know they had studios.
  7. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/netflix-lands-jordan-peele-keegan-michael-key-stop-motion-film-henry-selick-1094475 Netflix are financing Henry Selick's next stop-motion movie. Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key play the title characters, demon brothers facing their arch-enemy to try to earn their way out of hell.
  8. Netflix have done a deal for the Extreme Studios comics. I don't know much, or anything really, about them, but it was apparently later known as Awesome Comics too before closing. They were a studio from Deadpool's Rob Liefield. Alan Moore was involved too for a while. Akiva Goldsman will be setting up a writers room for the series of connected movies. Characters have very 90s names like Bloodstrike, Bloodwulf, Cybrid and Re-Gex, among others.
  9. http://deadline.com/2018/03/netflix-scores-vigilante-superhero-feature-from-rick-famuyiwa-tj-fixman-with-keanu-reeves-in-talks-to-star-1202307469/ Another Netflix movie. This time about a new kind of vigilante superhero. Though for now they're not saying what's new about him. Keanu Reeves is in talks to star. Produced by the Russo brothers. It's directed by Dope director Rick Famuyiwa and written by TJ Fixman (AKA Todd Fixman), who has written, er, a bunch of Ratchet & Clank games and its movie, as well as the Resistance 2 game. Though apparently some other movies which haven't been made yet too.
  10. Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson are to play the men who killed Bonnie and Clyde, Texas Ranger Frank Hamer and ex-partner Maney Gault. It was originally in development at Universal long enough ago that Paul Newman and Robert Redford were to star. Netflix eventually got it from them and shooting has begun. It'll also feature Kathy Bates, John Carroll Lynch, Kim Dickens, Thomas Mann and William Sadler.
  11. This Andy Serkis version was doing the rounds about the same time as Favreau's Disney version and there was doubt it would get made as a result. But WB are pushing ahead. It will supposedly have a darker tone, which the original story apparently has, in comparison to the Disney versions. There's some big names attached too. https://screenrant.com/jungle-book-andy-serkis-mowgli-synopsis/
  12. http://deadline.com/2017/10/netflix-raising-dion-black-superhero-family-drama-michael-b-jordan-from-co-star-charles-d-kings-macro-carol-barbee-1202182365/ A 10 episode (an hour each) "sci-fi family drama" based on a short (and comic) by ad and music video director Dennis Liu (short posted below). Michael B. Jordan is also involved in bringing the show about, as well as having a supporting role. It's about a single mother raising a child, Dion, who starts to exhibit superpowers. She tries to keep it secret, especially from those who would exploit it. The original short
  13. The Coen Brothers are coming to Netflix with The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, in 2018. It's a 6 part western anthology series set in the frontiers of the American West. Each episode tells a different story, tied together by Buster Scruggs, played by Tim Blake Nelson. The Coens are writing and directing. [edit] Now a movie instead of TV series.
  14. Another revival! Ralph Macchio and William Zabka have bills to pay are back as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. After competition from mainly streaming services, it's going to YouTube Red, the YouTube subscription service. Down-and-out Johnny reopens the Cobra Kai dojo and reignited his rivalry with a successful Daniel, who has struggles of his own. It's going to be a 10 episode half hour comedy series. Yes, comedy. Karate too of course. It's being written by the minds behind Hot Tub Time Machine and Harold and Kumar.
  15. http://deadline.com/2017/07/disenchantment-matt-groening-netflix-animated-comedy-20-episode-order-abbi-jacobson-nat-faxon-eric-andre-voice-cast-1202135218/ Matt Groening is doing a new adult animation on Netflix. Already ordered 20 episodes, in two seasons of 10. Abbi Jacobson, Nat Faxon and Eric Andre lead the cast, with John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding and Lucy Montgomery also voicing. Lots of familiar names from both sides of the Atlantic there. It's set in a crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland with lots of the usual fantasy type races. As usual with Groening, it's being animated by Rough Draft.
  16. Graphic novel, The Umbrella Academy, is getting a 10 episode live action series on Netflix. Steve Blackman will be showrunner and producer. He also produces on Fargo and Legion. I know nothing about it, so I'll just paste this. Apparently it's popular and award winning.
  17. Yet another version of Godzilla, this time CG anime. It's coming from Toho and Polygon Pictures. Anyone who's seen Knights of Sidonia or Blame will know the style (if you don't, don't expect Pixar). It's opening theatrically in Japan in November before streaming globally "this year". At the end of the 20th century, Kaiju's emerge. Mankind fight a losing battle, until 2048, when a number of chosen humans board a spacecraft to move to another world. However, when they get there, the planet isn't as suitable as they had thought, so they head back to Earth. When they reach Earth again, 20,000 years have passed (though only decades on the ship, so I assume relativity is at play here) and Godzilla is reigning over a new ecosystem. Here's a non-subtitled teaser, not that there's much dialogue.
  18. This'll probably go down like a lead balloon. It's already a classic and has an English dub regarded as exemplary. Can they possibly make any improvements? It's coming from a studio that also feels the need to remake Snowpiercer.
  19. Netflix are making a prequel to The Dark Crystal. It's a 10 part series, produced by The Jim Henson Company with Louis Leterrier directing. *sploosh* [edit] A bit more detail
  20. The trailer had me at Alison Brie
  21. Netflix seem to be busy with announcements this week. Sand Castle is a film set in Iraq in 2003. It stars Nicholas Hoult, Henry Cavill and Logan Marshall-Green. Second feature from Brazilian director Fernando Coimbra (A Wolf at the Door), who also did some of Narcos. Script by Chris Roessner, who is a veteran of the war. Coming 21 April.
  22. Based on non-fiction book, The Operators, following General Stanley McChrystal in Afghanistan. But it's been turned into more of a satirical film, with Pitt playing General Dan McMahon to avoid issues with McChrystal. It'll also star Tilda Swinton, Will Poulter, Sir Ben Kingsley, Scoot McNairy, Topher Grace, Anthony Michael Hall, Meg Tilly and Alan Ruck. Directed by David Michôd, of Animal Kingdom, which got a very good reception, and The Rover, which also seems to have gone down well. Release on 26 May.
  23. Netflix, David Fincher and Charlize Theron are doing a show based on the true crime book Mind Hunter: Inside FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit. Stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv and Hannah Gross. Set in 1979, FBI agents interview serial killers to help solve current murders. Their boss (I'm assuming it is) doesn't seem too pleased with that plan, from the teaser. Coming in October. http://deadline.com/2017/03/mindhunter-trailer-netflix-david-fincher-charlize-theron-series-holt-mccallanay-video-1202032899/
  24. Welp this is upsetting a lod of people. I'm sure we're going to see a lot of articles like this https://gizmodo.com/alt-right-dickheads-bravely-cancel-their-netflix-subscr-1792149955
