  1. This turned up on Netflix yesterday. While I make no claims to it being a great movie (although its enjoyable enough), the subject matter and the way the movie uses it meant my heart was in my mouth pretty much the whole time - it was really stressing me out! Maybe not so much if you have no fear of heights, but if you do, oh boy!
  2. Arnie is doing a TV series, in a show by Nick Santora. Luke (Arnie) and Emma (Monica Barbaro) are father and daughter, both keeping a secret from each other. They're both CIA operatives. Coming on 25 May. https://deadline.com/2023/02/arnold-schwarzenegger-fubar-netflix-date-teaser-trailer-first-look-photos-1235272869/
  3. After the success of Pinocchio, Guillermo Del Toro and Netflix are back with another stop motion movie, based on the book The Buried Giant.
  4. 8 episodes mini series. Deep space horror/suspense theme. Character designs by Yoshitaka Amano. Soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto. https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81002444 I just finished watching this - I thought it was good. Nothing too heavy and pretty concise at just 8 episodes, but it kept me hooked and I was keen to find out the next twist and turn of the story. The art style is a little strange but I recognised Amano’s designs before I saw his name in the credits! Sakamoto’s score is also very nice.
  5. The manga and anime are very popular, but it's probably going to be a shit live movie. It's being made by Netflix and Legendary. Manga and anime are both ongoing. Don't know much about the manga, but the anime is currently in it's 6th season (plus 3 movies). Needless to say, whatever this movie produces will barely scratch the surface. Set in a version of Earth where, in the not too distant past, people started manifesting superpowers as young children, called Quirks in this franchise. In the present day, about 80% of people have Quirks. They can range from devastating power to practically useless. Some people with Quirks go on to become officially licenced superheroes. They have to be licenced and unlicenced vigilantes are illegal. The main character has no Quirk, but still dreams of attending a superhero school. And an encounter with the world's No. 1 hero changes his life. It'll be written by Joby Harold. He did Guy Ritchie's version of King Arthur, the Obi-Wan series and upcoming long delayed Flash and Transformers. https://deadline.com/2022/12/netflix-legendary-my-hero-academia-1235196620/
  6. Netflix are to release this on 1 January. It's 8 episodes and the non-linear aspect is that it doesn't matter what order you watch them in and different people will be served different orders. Might be interesting to see how that works in reality. The idea came from when $70bn of bonds went missing during Hurricane Sandy. The creator thought "What if it was actually a heist using the storm for cover". Stars Giancarlo Esposito, Rufus Sewell, Paz Vega, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney, Niousha Noor, Jordan Mendoza, Soojeong Son and Hemky Madera.
  7. I only played the first couple of games, so have no idea where it ended up going. But Netflix have acquired the rights and are partnering with The Coalition to develop a movie and an animated series. It'll apparently be a high priority with work expected to begin pretty quickly. https://deadline.com/2022/11/netflix-gears-of-war-1235165887/
  8. Remember that time Netflix made a rubbish live-action Death Note? Now Netflix are making a live-action Death Note again. This one is from the Duffer Brothers company, though I don't know if they're directing. https://deadline.com/2022/10/death-note-halia-abdel-meguid-series-adaptation-manga-netflix-duffer-bros-1235151144/
  9. Mike Flanagan hasn't done a show about bombing down the Bayshore Route in Tokyo in cars that crashed through Halfords first. It's about a group of terminally ill young adults in a hospice who gather at midnight to tell scary stories. And make a pact that when the first dies, they communicate with others from beyond the grave. And when the first does die, strange things begin happening. Starts today. It's also made it into the Guinness Records for the most jump scares in a single episode. Flanagan actually hates jump scares, but decided to deliberately go over the top for those people who clamour for them and try to make them meaningless. https://deadline.com/2022/10/the-midnight-club-now-guiness-world-records-holder-1235137919/
  10. Described as a pulpy mystery caper. A sort of mix of present-day and stylised 70's elements. Stars John Boyega, Teyonah Parris and Jamie Foxx. After a series of eerie events, they find themselves on the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy.
  11. J-Lo is the next to take the lead in a woman-kicking-arse movie. She's an assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up years before. Scarred Joseph Fiennes in the trailer too. Coming in May.
  12. It's Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, who some don't get on with, so I thought I'd mention that first. And don't ask me what's going on with that title. Coming to Netflix on 21 September. Evan Peters stars as Dahmer. Largely told from the victims perspective and goes into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed him to go on for so long. https://deadline.com/video/monster-trailer-evan-peters-jeffrey-dahmer-ryan-murphys-netflix-series/
  13. An animated special, accompanied by the simultaneous release of an album of the same name which also serves as the soundtrack. From Kid Cudi and Kenya Barris. It's a story about a young artist named Jabari (Kudi) and his photographer neighbour Meadow (Jessica Williams). Also stars Timothée Chalamet, Ty Dolla $ign, Laura Harrier, Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, 070 Shake, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Teyana Taylor, Arturo Castro and Macaulay Culkin. Released on 30 September.
  14. NWR has a 6-episode show coming to Netflix. Made back home in Denmark. It's a "neon-drenched noir", for a change. Production has already wrapped and it'll be out later this year. And it sounds like we can expect more from him and Netflix.
  15. A Netflix Film. Jamie Foxx used to be a vampire hunter, but is out of the Union after too many incidents. But with his family threatening to move away, he needs money and wants back in, so goes back to the Union boss, played by Snoop. Gets teamed up with a rookie partner played by Dave Franco. Coming 12 August. R-rated trailer
  16. Another game-based Netflix animation. Not a lot of detail yet, other than it being new characters inspired by the game and it's coming in December. And a teaser trailer
  17. Netflix anime set in the world of the game, animated by Trigger. It's coming in September https://deadline.com/2022/06/cyberpunk-edgerunners-teaser-trailer-first-look-netflix-anime-series-video-game-1235040841/

Two girls who believe they are a natural fit for good and evil respectively find themselves being put on the opposite side than they expected. As well as the girls played by Sofia Wylie and Sophia Anne Caruso, it stars Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Yeoh. Directed by Paul Feig. Coming in September.
  19. Netflix are bringing the One Piece manga to life. Hopefully it fares better than Cowboy Bebop. There's a bunch of casting at the link, mostly names I don't think I know, plus Craig Fairbrass. They released a video showing a glimpse at some sets.
  20. The Russo Brothers $200m action movie for Netflix. Stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Chris Evans dodgy moustache, Jessica Henwick, Ana de Armas, Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfre Woodard, Regé-Jean Page, Julia Butters, Eme Ikwuakor and Scott Haze.
