New Line are doing another reboot of Shaft. It'll be directed by Tim Story, of the 05 and 07 Fantastic Four movies and 3 Kevin Hart Ride along movies. It'll be written by Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and Alex Barnow (The Goldbergs). Story details are being kept under wraps, but word is it'll be about John Shaft's son.

Dreamworks and Netflix have another new animated show coming. On paper, it sort of looks like it's aiming at an Adventure Time area, though it can't really compete with that. It's about a girl, Kipo, in a post-apocalyptic Earth. She and some other survivors go on some sort of adventure and have to contend with adorable creatures trying to kill them.

Netflix and Dreamworks (now owned by Universal's parent company) are bringing an animated Fast & Furious show to the world. It's a spin-off from the main movie series, led by Dom's cousin, Tony Toretto. Like his cousin, he gets involved in a shadowy government agency. Tony and his crew infiltrate a racing league which is a front for a crime organisation. Obviously.

Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson are to play the men who killed Bonnie and Clyde, Texas Ranger Frank Hamer and ex-partner Maney Gault. It was originally in development at Universal long enough ago that Paul Newman and Robert Redford were to star. Netflix eventually got it from them and shooting has begun. It'll also feature Kathy Bates, John Carroll Lynch, Kim Dickens, Thomas Mann and William Sadler.

New show based on a George RR Martin novella, which was previously adapted as a movie in 1987. Some scientists and a telepath travel on a spaceship, Nightflyer, to the edge of the solar system to try to contact alien life. Things go wrong. Co-produced by SyFy and Netflix, with Netflix having international rights. GRRM isn't directly involved in the show (apart from appearing in the trailer below), keeping busy on other stuff, but does get credited as Executive Producer. Apparently filmed in Limerick, where I didn't even know they had studios.

This comes from the Netflix Millarworld deal. Chris McKay will direct the Netflix adaptation of the Mark Millar comic Reborn. One of the producers is Sandra Bullock, who may also be cast in it.

Yet another version of Godzilla, this time CG anime. It's coming from Toho and Polygon Pictures. Anyone who's seen Knights of Sidonia or Blame will know the style (if you don't, don't expect Pixar). It's opening theatrically in Japan in November before streaming globally "this year". At the end of the 20th century, Kaiju's emerge. Mankind fight a losing battle, until 2048, when a number of chosen humans board a spacecraft to move to another world. However, when they get there, the planet isn't as suitable as they had thought, so they head back to Earth. When they reach Earth again, 20,000 years have passed (though only decades on the ship, so I assume relativity is at play here) and Godzilla is reigning over a new ecosystem. Here's a non-subtitled teaser, not that there's much dialogue. -
It's Groudhog Day all over again. Created by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland, it stars Lyonne as a party guest who keeps reliving the party and getting killed. Coming on 1 February. Trailer contains swearing

The Coen Brothers are coming to Netflix with The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, in 2018. It's a 6 part western anthology series set in the frontiers of the American West. Each episode tells a different story, tied together by Buster Scruggs, played by Tim Blake Nelson. The Coens are writing and directing. [edit] Now a movie instead of TV series.

This was announced ages ago and just earlier today I was wondering if it had been dumped. Now they've released a teaser, urging you not to watch. We've got Patrick Warburton as Lemony Snicket, Neil Patrick Harris as Olaf as well as Joan Cusack and Aasif Mandvi. Comes out Friday, 13 January, 2017.

This Andy Serkis version was doing the rounds about the same time as Favreau's Disney version and there was doubt it would get made as a result. But WB are pushing ahead. It will supposedly have a darker tone, which the original story apparently has, in comparison to the Disney versions. Netflix always seem to do something for Christmas and this year Kurt Russel is Santa in a movie produced by Chris Columbus. It's coming on 22 November. Two kids want to catch Santa on camera but it ends with him crashing in Chicago and, OMG, Christmas is at risk. The three team up to get things back on track. I suspect a happy ending.

Lewis Company. It covers both movies and TV. It's apparently the first time one company got the rights to all the books. The previous movies and attempts to continue them must have been on a case-by-case basis. eOne and Sony were going to make another movie together, but eOne then decided they want to go bigger, got The C.S. Lewis Company to agree, and the whole thing ended up at Netflix.

Another former studio theatrical movie bought by Netflix, this time from Universal. Michael Peña stars as an ordinary working class guy who has recurring nightmares about mass destruction, and the loss of his family, by an unknown force. Everyone tells him it's just in his head, until an alien invasion begins. Also stars Lizzy Caplan and Mike Colter. Comes to Netflix on 27 July.

So this is on Netflix. It's literally just Hannah Gadsby doing her new comedy set at the Opera House. It runs for just over an hour. I don't know how to sum it up. It's about non-comformity. The trap of self-depreciation. Art history. It's funny in places, incredibly confronting in others. It's worth its own thread.

Netflix are adapting Salman Rushdie's book as a series. It's about a boy born at midnight on August 15, 1947, when India became independent. His life mirrors what's happening in the nation over the following years. And he has telepathic powers linking him to 1,000 children born in the same hour, all of them having gifts or powers.

Another Hunchback adaptation, this time from Netflix. With a large helping of Idris Elba, who will produce, direct, make original music and star as Quasimodo. It'll be a modern re-telling.

Couldn’t find a thread. I quite like this. I require the comments of other people to understand if I’m right or wrong. 4 episodes in now and it’s developing quite nicely.
