  1. This Kickstarter is doing very well: its $55k initial goal was met in 15 hours, and its funding has now reached over $100k. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dcellgames/unbeatable RPS article: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/rhythm-game-unbeatable-has-a-demo-and-it-slaps There's a demo called Arcade Mix on itch.io: https://dcellgames.itch.io/unbeatable-arcade-mix And Steam has what sounds like a more substantial demo of the game's "standalone episodic side-story" Unbeatable [white label], which will be updated during the Kickstarter funding period: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1290490/UNBEATABLE_white_label/ Here's a video of someone playing through all the tracks in the demo (with an attempt at playing one of them on Hard at the very end): RPS says that the default controls for the up/down actions are the D and F keys, but it looks to me like it'll work best with them on the L/R shoulder buttons (like in Frequency & Amplitude).
  2. Darren Doyle and Greyfox Books are funding their latest release on Kickstarter. After the excellent Atari 8-bit book, the new title is a personal look back at classic arcade games, with chapters based on particular genres and lots of great visuals. Having helped proofread the book it's shaping up to be another worthy addition to your retro bookshelves. Link

So excited by the news that a new Battletech game is in the works !! Further Info Shadowrun Returns developer Harebrained Schemes will be rebooting the beloved turn-based tactics series BattleTech. Created by Harebrained Schemes founder Jordan Weisman back in 1984 as a board game called BattleDroids, the series changed its name to BattleTech in its second edition following a copyright squabble with Lucasfilm who'd already claimed the word "droid". The franchise went on to spawn numerous editions, novels, and video games. It even spawned the famous MechWarrior series. Harebrained Schemes's upcoming BattleTech title will be the first turn-based BattleTech game for PC in over 20 years. Little is known about the game, but the developer said it will "feature an open-ended Mercenaries-style campaign that blends RPG 'Mech and MechWarrior management with modern turn-based tactics." A Kickstarter campaign is planned to launch this autumn. Given how quickly Harebrained Schemes' Shadowrun: Hong Kong reached its funding goal, it seems likely BattleTech will come to fruition.
  5. Just found out about this today. The game was my Game of the Year 2014 on PC. I've not bought a board game since I was a teen, but I think this looks too good to pass up so I just pulled the trigger. It's also my first time being a kickstarter backer. It can be played solo, as well as with a team. There's also quite a lot of kickstarter only stretch goals, only the very last one is left to unlock. 15k left with 4 days to go.
  6. Launched today (2nd November), fans of classic C64 games should check out this Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1289191009/reformation-c64-track-remakes-by-matt-gray-last-ni Original composer Matt Gray is remixing his classic compositions, including Last Ninja 2, Driller and Dominator. Planned as a 2-CD set initially, stretch goals include the possibility of even more music, a limited edition vinyl and even the chance for Matt to write you an original tune. Already at £19,000 and rising!
  7. For NES Visual Backers only for now, here we go! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2146199819/nintendo-entertainment-system-famicom-a-visual-com/posts/1849526 (requires login). The NES compendium is EXCELLENT, and huge! I will certainly be backing this and am looking forward to the outcome. I won't share the images from the kickstarter page as I'm unsure of the etiquette - needless to say it's very pretty indeed.
  8. This looks really interesting. It's an adventure game from the STASIS devs set in post apocalyptic Africa... http://www.desolationgame.com/ Kickstarter is live...
  9. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/686144604/hellhunter I've just backed this on kickstarter after seeing the following gif From the looks of the trailer it seems to involve a Witcher 3 style game loop of investigating clues to discover what type of creature you're hunting, and then picking the right weapon/strategy to get rid of it. It looks unlikely that it'll meet its goal at this point, but I figured it was worth telling people about as it looks fucking superb!
  10. Not seen this mentioned before? This is the kind of ks I can (still begrudgingly) get behind. I'm lucky enough to own the original CD, but hearing it reproduced with a full orchestra should be fantastic. Not a fan of the new artwork, but Huelsbeck is a god and this soundtrack is a stone cold classic. Only a few days more to go. Turrican II – The Orchestral Album will feature nearly an hour of completely new, never before heard, orchestral arrangements of some of the most popular pieces of music from Turrican II. Tracks planned for the album include The Final Fight, Freedom, The Great Bath, Concerto for Lasers and Enemies and The Desert Rocks. We will be revealing more tracks as the project progresses. Depending on the campaign’s success, all backers will get to hear Turrican II’s orchestral beauty from December this year.
  11. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/560468638/nintendo-nes-library-guide-and-review-book-of-750 It already raised it's goal (50k as of writing, wanted 15k) and sounds mighty fine in the page department (450+!). What more could NES fans want? A page each for every game? 800+ pages? As the kickstarter notes it probably already weighs as much as it should, being hardcover. Every system needs one of these. I love what ROM does (Mega Drive: Collected Works) but a big thick hardback just detailing every game on a particular system is another matter!
