  1. Navigation: Spring Breeze: first post | last post DynaBlade: first post | last post The Great Cave Offensive: first post | last post Revenge of MetaKnight: first post | last post Milkyway Wishes: first post | last post The Arena: full notes Okay, hear me out... I know that this is quite a contrast to the three classic Persona let's play threads I made in the past couple of years, but I think that this would make for a fun little playthrough thread simply because there's a lot of content in here. In case you don't know about the Kirby games, they make up a long-running series of charming platformers that focus on absorbing enemy abilities and using those abilities to make progress. In short, it offers a lot of agency about how players want to tackle the challenges ahead of them, which makes them pretty satisfying and replayable. Oh, and they also have really nice presentation and some great soundtracks. I was late discovering Kirby Super Star because I never had a SNES growing up - I even missed out on the Nintendo DS update . I think I had a brief look at the game via emulation on PC once, but it wasn't until I got a SNES Classic Mini that I really took a closer look at the game. The reason something like Super Star is a nice candidate for a playthrough thread is that there's a ton of things to unlock and complete, and so the game in itself is like its own mini-series - as soon as one of the smaller games is over, something else might unlock and on it goes. From what I can gather, the route to the "ending" involves: Completing Spring Breeze and DynaBlade (unlocks Revenge of MetaKnight) Completing The Great Cave Offensive and Revenge of MetaKnight (unlocks Milkyway Wishes) Completing Milkyway Wishes (unlocks The Arena?) Completing The Arena (unlocks a sound test?) I'm taking a few guesses at the last couple, based on internet sources and video footage, because I think I've only ever got as far as Milkyway Wishes in my own random endeavours, so I guess this is another P1-style thing of me wanting closure. I'm pretty sure I can get through the first few minigames without too much trouble - the main obstacles for me will be Milkyway Wishes, The Arena, and (depending on my screw-ups) The Great Cave Offensive. Also, a lot of my previous experience with the game was done in co-op, so I'll be at a bit of a disadvantage this time. I might get started this evening, or maybe in the week. And I think I'll be playing via PC emulation, simply for the screenshots. 2. As someone who still has most of the original issues, I repeat:
  3. "Stupendously eternal but hitherto unasked questions." Similar to my Super Mario Kart poll, except there hasn't always been an obvious 'best choice' for me. I used to use Fire Stingray, cos he was the fastest (and probably the coolest looking), but his slow acceleration means you have to be pretty good to maintain top speed. These days I go for likeable hero and general all-rounder: the Blue Falcon.
  4. Just curious really. As kids, Koopa was always top pick for Battle Mode or GP, and you’d settle for Toad as a close second. I don’t remember using anybody else except in Time Trial mode, when the extra speed of Bowser or DK got you better times.
  5. So this looks like it's starting to become a thing: https://store.iam8bit.co.uk/products/street-fighter-ii-30th-anniversary-edition As a Street Fighter 30th Anniversary surprise, Capcom & iam8bit fistbumped to create this ultra premium throwback relic - a brand-new, freshly manufactured limited edition of Street Fighter II for Super Nintendo Entertainment System compatible hardware. Featuring one of two colored cartridges, each housing the original game code and fully playable on NTSC consoles - but that’s just the beginning! The “Legacy Cartridge Collection” embodies retro-inspired luxury, amplifying the core SNES box design with a glistening foil sheen, delicately embossed texture, chic spot varnish and an innovative tri-fold cover that opens to reveal bonus vintage art. Inside, we’re keeping it old-school by restoring the contents of the original instruction booklet, complete with a new archival cover print + secret pack-ins (to be revealed when you crack that shrink-wrap seal). *Cartridge colorways are randomly inserted into sealed, unmarked boxes. The edition of 5,500 is comprised of: Opaque Ryu Headband Red (4,500 total); and Translucent, Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green (1K total). We cannot guarantee which version you will receive. It truly is completely random. Shipping Begins Late November 2017 One hell of a disclaimer at the bottom of the page:

  7. Unholy Night: The Darkness Hunter is an unexpected, new SNES game from former SNK staffers. The 2D fighter features “eight special moves for the player to master as well as super moves that makes use of a three-level meter” across Story, Versus, Survival, and Practice modes. The SNES seems to be having a bit of a new life thanks to Foxbat's Unholy Night. Debut trailer: If SNK did a Darkstalkers game. On the SNES. Twenty five years ago... Even though the Kickstarters goal wasn't reached the game still is up for pre-order on Amazon.com
  8. For NES Visual Backers only for now, here we go! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2146199819/nintendo-entertainment-system-famicom-a-visual-com/posts/1849526 (requires login). The NES compendium is EXCELLENT, and huge! I will certainly be backing this and am looking forward to the outcome. I won't share the images from the kickstarter page as I'm unsure of the etiquette - needless to say it's very pretty indeed.
  9. Hi everyone - I'm hoping to garner some opinions on a retro gaming idea, if you would be able to help... I've got a business opportunity focused on gaming (arcade & consoles only at the moment) and one idea I've had to make it a bit more interesting to current and potential gamers is to provide a service a bit like Graze, Pact Coffee, Abel & Cole, etc. The idea is that you can go online, select which consoles you own and subscribe to a service that posts you a different game every month. You can play it and then send it back or you can keep it for an extra fee. So, if you said you had an N64, you might get Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie or Super Smash Brothers for your first 3 months. You could send a couple back and keep one, if you felt so inclined. We would never send out the same game twice and you could cancel with 30 days notice. My questions I'd like to get some opinions on are; - Would you like to get one or more games sent to you every month? - If so, would a cost of £7.99 per month, including return postage, put you off? - Have you heard of anyone else providing this service? If so, what's good and what's bad about what they do? - What would really put you off from signing up? - What would make you sign to the membership package immediately? - If there were other benefits to the subscription, such as small loyalty rewards or exclusive social events, would that be of interest? Thanks for taking the time to respond - I genuinely appreciate all the feedback, good or bad, and will respond to everyone! Mark

  13. Yeah, this is going to start a huge playground battle... Anyway, I'd really love to get a Megadrive but at the moment I just can't justify one. I suppose when people talk about the best games on the SNES or Megadrive, they tend to be platform exclusives. But some were also available on both systems. So in the meantime, what are the best Megadrive games that are also available on the SNES? Games like Sensible Soccer, Desert Strike... anything else that's worth picking up?
  14. Wasn't sure where to ask with no EverDrive thread so I figured I'd make one. EverDrives are flash carts made for retro consoles, as a brief summary. The upside to using these is there is no emulation when using the original hardware for these old games. Got a Master (System) Everdrive last year and only just started organizing the roms, but in two instances now certain roms crash: Super Tetris (as soon as you press anything, otherwise it runs) Street Fighter 2 (I got up to Balrog before it decided to crap out on me, God this looks amazing considering the hardware it's on, mind.) I've got a 50/60hz and language mod on the system but far as I can tell, those are not affecting Tetris. Is it just the case that the Everdrive may not be compatible with completely everything? I've also been pondering how to organize the list when you switch it on because the roms show up twice (when I know they shouldn't)
  15. Hi, I've got a pal snes that has a 50hz/60hz switch fitted. It was done by Console passion in about 2003. I've managed to lose the scart lead that was supplied by them/him. I've tried a gamecube rgb lead but that didn't work. My gamecube AV lead did work for 50hz, but in 60hz mode the screen flickers quite a bit. Does anyone know what sort of scart lead I need and where to buy one? Thanks in advance!
