Been really impressed with Bardet, his form this year is possibly the best it’s ever been. I’d love to see him take the stage today. However he is going to need to keep gaining time in the mountains if he wants to get on the podium because G is likely to take minutes out of him on the final TT.

It’s going to be a very exciting race!

Yeah I think there are several riders looking strong - Quintana looked good yesterday also, in with a shout for a podium spot. In fact all the way down to Gaudu in 7th, any of them I could easily see getting on the podium. G probably is the most likely, given he can TT and looks like he's got enough form to not lose time on the climbs.

While the yellow might only be a two horse race, there is going to be lots of exciting racing over the next week. Interesting to see how the KoM shapes up - Barguil looks frisky.

He won by 5 mins last year so obviously has the ability to overturn the deficit. However JV are pretty much full strength this year as opposed to the shell of a team they were last year and Vingegaard has gone in as a leader so in the right form and mindset, whereas last year it all accidentally fell on his shoulders.

The thing Pog has to be grateful about is after the initial climb of the Galibier today they don’t go near 2,000ms again.

That is true - this is the stiffest test he has yet faced. I guess Pog will hope that yesterday was his one 'bad day' - everyone usually has at least one every tour, winner or not. Lets see how JV deals with his, if and when it comes - although as mentioned, he has the team to help limit any losses.

  3. What a day. Pog made to look human, which with his form is no mean feat.

Having said that, it’s taken Jumbo having a significant advantage in numbers to achieve, and as the man said himself - he lost 3 minutes today, I wouldn’t bet against him making up 3 minutes on L’alpe D’Huez tomorrow.

If tomorrow is half as good as today….

And my earlier statement about the green Jersey, honestly I though they would make more of a race of it. Yeah that will be Wouts now then 😎

I think that is just how the Points Classification is nowadays - it's more for roulers/puncheurs (of which Wout is a level above the rest) than dedicated sprinters. Gone are the days when the first six or seven stages were pancake flat and always ended in a bunch sprint. Cavendish last year was the exception to the rule in many ways, as good as it was to see him pull it off.

Chapeau Jungels, was bold to go that early. Gotta love a long range attack.

As for the GC - do Jumbo and Ineos try something in the Alps, or wait for the Pyrenees?

  5. 2 hours ago, metallicfrodo said:

Ineos are also interesting as with 4 riders in the top ten maybe they will actually try a new type of racing and mount multiple attacks. Is Thomas happy with 3rd being a former tour winner? Yates already has a 4th at the tour. Pidcock is in his first tour, realistically holding out for a top 10 is all well and good but he’s touted as a potential winner down the line, why not just race with a free hand, same for Martinez if his form improves as the race goes on.

That’s a good point - if Ineos had two options you’d think UAE and Jumbo could shut both down, but with four riders that might be a struggle to effectively mark them all - especially if one gets up the road early in a stage.

Unless all four have ideas of reaching the top spot and/or podium and start pulling in different directions….

  6. With the form of both Pog and Van Aert are showing, this race is looking rather ominous indeed…

I’m trying to formulate a convincing argument this race isn’t already over (assuming they stay upright) but it’s hard to see where the challenge comes from might now. Vingegard looks strong, but not strong enough to dislodge Pog.

  7. Roglic casually popping his shoulder back in by himself 😮

Pogacar seems to be Teflon coated - just never seems to be in trouble, even with his ‘weaker’ team. Still, you make your own luck I guess.

Can see him potentially stealing some more time tomorrow as well, the finish looks perfect for someone to attack.

  8.

Best Norwich effort in many a year. Shame Lotus have moved away from their traditional logo like was on last year's shirt - but I'll take that over a betting company every day of the week.

  9. So Nintendo Direct came........and went.

I swear, it might just be an MS employee was expertly trolling us when they 'accidentally' leaked those achievements 😅

Hopefully it's announced to coincide with the 25th anniversary in August - hopefully.....

  10. Perfect Dark’s single player is very inconsistent. For every Area 51 which is excellent, there is a Crash Site which is….not. The last two levels especially feel particularly rushed in development. Two of the three bonus missions are great, though.

PD’s multiplayer however, is far superior - endlessly customisable and has most of the best multiplayer levels from Goldeneye included. Playing with Bots was great as well, even if it absolutely tanked the framerate. If the GE remaster does happen I would like to see them add more custom functions like PD had - would be a good QOL improvement, otherwise GE multiplayer is very basic by modern standards.

Blizzard had a legacy of more than just toxicity.  They should just bloody well sort it out and make it the studio(s) players and staff expect it to be, and thought it was.

Well quite - getting rid of the name is purely a PR exercise, and perhaps the Blizzard brand has not suffered in the same way as Activision has - toxicity in the workplace aside, Blizzard probably has a reputation for quality output and Activision....doesn't. One might be worth saving and the other not.

Obviously a rebranding exercise would not absolve MS's responsibility to address the actual issues at hand in these workplaces - but they might deem it still worthwhile to draw a line in the sand. Symbolically, at least.

I really expect MS to rename Activision "Call of Duty Studios" or something like that.

Or drop the over-arching Activision brand name altogether, and just run with the individual studio names - Infinity Ward, Treyarch, et al.

Could potentially do similar with Blizzard, if they're really keen to eradicate the more toxic brand names from existence.

So it's actually going to happen at this point?

It seems to be much further along than the aborted XBLA version that was leaked. You’d have thought given the reasons why it was aborted last time (apparently Nintendo had agreed in principle so they [Rare] started work on it, only for Nintendo to change their mind before contracts were signed) that Rare/MS would not have put the time and effort in again unless they had binding contracts to actually realise a release/profit this time around. Once bitten and all that.

I also think Nintendo are now a lot more relaxed about ‘their’ IP (not strictly theirs in this case, but you know what I mean) appearing on platforms other than their own compared to 2008, given their subsequent mobile releases and other change of business practices since.

Under previous management they’d have preferred 100% of nothing (rather than a cut of the proceeds from a GE remaster for doing basically nothing) if it meant protecting their hardware platforms from dilution due to cross-platform releases. Clearly given the mobile releases et al they are now considerably more relaxed about this and will now take the free money being offered - and presumably it’ll also be appearing on Nintendo platforms.

The leak probably made them realise that there was a lot of interest in a remaster - and that a cross-platform release is simply in their interest as a pure business case. I mean, they’ve got milking their back catalogue down to a fine art so might as well accept MS’s help to continue doing so… 😉

TL;DR - I highly doubt MS/Rare would have put the time and effort in again if Nintendo weren’t already on board. At least I hope - I’ve been dying for a remaster since Perfect Dark XBLA got released.

EDIT: should’ve added most of this is purely conjecture on my part, but the logic that MS wouldn’t waste time without being certain it’d actually happen does make a release more than plausible.

How do you know? You havent created your character yet

I know - I wasn’t being entirely serious with my previous comment 😉

On a more serious note, it’s these little things that I hope they bear in mind. I know it’s a reboot and trying to move the franchise on, but you need to be careful of alienating your existing fan base by deviating too much from the formula that worked. Hopefully they get the balance right - too early to tell at this point, of course.

Nowt wrong with 480i on a CRT!

I wouldn't disagree with that. But if you're spending a chunk of change on modding a console, it might be because you want the best experience possible - which arguably you won't get with a Dreamcast-TV CRT combo. It was meant more with a 'have you considered....' sentiment rather than as a warning - especially if Sketch doesn't yet have a CRT. Not sure purchasing a TV CRT (given how much they now cost) specifically for Dreamcast would be the best option, that's all :)

No HDMI, since I figure if I want to play on my HDTV then I'll just emulate. So this is for a CRT.

Just bear in mind that unless you want to play on a CRT specifically to play light gun games, it isn't really the best way to play Dreamcast - it outputs 480i, not 240p (except for a few Capcom beat em ups.) If you want a prog scan image then you'll need a downscaler.

Alternatively, find an old CRT monitor with VGA input then get a VGA adapter - the vast majority of games can be forced to output VGA.

Of course, you might not care about the lack of 240p, in which case carry on :)

Latest addition! Just waiting for a MiSTer to be plugged into it :D

That's funny....that looks an awful lot like the Trinitron I sold on Facebook to a guy who said he planned to use it with a MiSTer 😉

Hope it serves you well! If I'd known you were a forumite I'd have let you leave with my son's bag of old toys that he tried to offer you as well 😆

  18. So finished the final mission last night: actually kinda enjoyed it in a 'change of pace' sort of way.

    Apart from:

    Spoiler

the bullet-soak guards near the end - always a jarringly cheap tactic to increase the difficulty, but stands out badly in this franchise.

Not very Hitman, but the last mission does give me hope that IOI could actually do a good job with the Bond licence - more of this in that game could be pretty tasty....
