Genuine question, but is a 1080p TV likely to show up jaggies more than on a 720p or SD set? I'm quite close in to my TV (which is quite large for the size of my room) so it's surprising to read that a minimum of 4xAA will have been applied here as they definately screamed out at me to some degree.

I must say, I didn't notice them on the fire... just on door frames, buildings etc, i.e when you move around static objects.

I noticed the jaggies too Blue... I'm quite sensitive to them as I usually turn AA right up on PC games to get rid of them totally. I'm not sure what level of AA has been applied to this, but I'm playing quite close up on a 37" LCD and they were definately noticible - as I said, more so when the light catches the edge of things.

The jaggies are a little off putting for me too, especially when the lighting catches the edge of something... it's an immersion thing I guess. It still looks good overall though. Still, I loved the demo. Played it through a couple of times now, and I can't believe I died the first time round. That said, I did miss the machine gun and the fire Plasmid initially, and got raped by the sentry while I struggled with the controls.

You're dead pretty much straight away if 3 splicers hit you though... that's what happened to me. And the flying drone things killed me once.

I suck at FPS' on a console dude, seriously. Rainbox 6 Vegas is my first console FPS, and that's hardly a twitch sorta game... it's more tactical. I end up looking at the floor and all sorts'a shit when I'm being mobbed by baddies.

Ah right, so if you bugger up your progress (waste ammo, adam etc) you still have the option of falling back to 'save games' that you can save at any point. Scribbler... did you find yourself reloading previous saves rather than spawning?

I'm not sure I understand the save system... I realise you respawn at one of the 'pod thingys', in which case, is the game not saving as you go along? In which case, automatically saving of your progress is a bit different to being able to manually save your progress, as presumably there aren't 'save games' to fall back to. Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick.

Can someone come to my work, take my keys, go to my house, and get this bloody demo downloading please?..... and don't steal my stuff. kthxbye.
  10. VGA and component are both analogue signals, so maybe at 1080p manufacturers are having problems processing a non-digital signal at decent cost. I dunno, I'm just guessing. It sucks though. It's a good job I was so impressed when I looked at your Sammy M87, as otherwise I wouldn't have been able to shortlist any 1080p 37" sets.
  11. Your Sammy has good connectivity options though mate... the SHARP and Toshiba I was looking at don't support 1080p over component or VGA, whereas yours does. There isn't much choice really.
  12. I was getting disc read errors when it was vertical... quite frequently when playing Forza. I don't get them at all anymore. EDIT:- not that I'm talking about scratching, but still.
  13. I've seen so many people championing one over the other... I'd guess that different TV's give different results, and that picture quality is a subjective thing anyway.

A lot of people are attracted to the art style of it... and the fact it comes from the guys that did System Shock 2, which was fab. As far as the mechanics go, it doesn't look revolutionary or owt, but the setting and style of it all is a draw in games like this I guess. Interest is definately peaking recently due to the decent reviews and previews it's getting. Looking foward to it.

No chance... not sure if I can stomach these faceplates. Tempted by the black Joytech one though.

There are 3 versions of this doing the rounds... 1) Standard version, game only, standard case. 2) Special edition tin... soundtrack CD, dvd etc... no Big Daddy replica 3) Limited Edition Game/Gamplay exclusive... which includes the tin + Big Daddy replica. So the shopto one will be the second one.
  17. That looks even more sinister than the old models!
  18. You may find it hard to convince Tesco to replace it... as they'll tell you to go down the MS route. That said, it gives you more ammunition if you carry on going with Tesco, as you can point to proof of 'inherently faulty hardware' or whatever the terminology is, now that MS have admitting that it's shit hardware.
  19. I was getting dirty disc errors with Forza 2 when I was running it vertically. I've had none since I laid it flat.
  20. It specifically mentions (or at least it did on my form) that it's 3 year total cover, i.e an extra 2 years of top of the initial warranty period. I only mentioned it to them because I was ringing up to get a replacement PSU, and had them on the line. I mentioned that it says it's a limited 10 day offer, and expressed concerns that they might not get it in time, and she didn't know anything about it being limited... just that it's £30 a year at any time. Rev is probably right though, in that you'd probably have to do it while already covered.
  21. Just to add something to this... I spoke to MS about their extra cover options, and extra cover is available at any time for £30 a year (yearly or 2 yearly cover plans). I can't see any reason why anyone with a dead console (that hasn't already rung into MS) can't extend their cover by a year (for £30) and then get a replacement under warranty. Might be worth someone giving it a go.
  22. It says it's sold out, but when I asked when I'd be able to expect a replacement, she specifically said that it's been 'discontinued', so my only option was a refund. She may have got her terminology mixed up, but that's what she said.
