  1. Good job! Blame the magazine, rather than the shoddy company responsible for screwing everything up! You're like the best kind of reader, ever. EVER. And no doubt, the gamesTM team (whoever that turns out to be) will be crying for weeks after hearing this news.
  2. I totally agree here... I thought the random element of Minish Cap was very annoying, especially since at one point I totally ran out of shells and there were literally NONE left for me to collect. How was I supposed to complete the collection in that case? On the other hand, I loved the fact that it was my own skill that decided whether I could get the models or not in Wind Waker. That said, I'm a bit angry... I had a 90% complete collection on my Japanese version of the game, but then some muppet* came along and used my Jap memory card to save US games, meaning they formatted the card and I lost the lot. Rubbish. * Please note, said muppet wasn't me. If it was, I wouldn't be pissed about it.
  3. I'm thinking I might have been the only one who spent literally hours and hours (and hours) refining recipes in Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana - you could switch out ingredients for other ingredients when making items (for instance, switching regular milk for goat's milk when making cakes... although it went far beyond just baking ) and if you got the mix right, you'd get an entirely different item. I'm up to about 22 hours in that game... but technically, I'm only about 12 hours into the actual adventure.
  4. Depends - strictly speaking, it's the gods-honest truth, simply because they'll increase the paper quality and page size to what it once was before Highbury's money bods slashed quality control in order to save a little bit of cash.
  5. I had a similar situation a long while back, when I was reviewing a DVD player for the (then relatively new) DVD Review magazine... except it was a little more extreme. Bottom line, the DVD player was absolute toss - I'd just bought a Pioneer one for myself that was awesome and against it, the review machine was fucking awful. So I said so in the review. Next thing I know, the guy in charge of ad sales for the mag, a shifty character and no mistake, was being asked by the head of the company behind the machine (it was only a small fly-by-night, bang them out quick for a buck firm) for my personal details - including my home address - so that they could 'discuss my opinions' over their machine with me. No fucking joke. I swear, I thought I was going to get my kneecaps broken or something by some very large guys called Rocco and Knuckles. Thankfully, they never got hold of my details but strangely enough, the exact same machine was re-reviewed about two issues later by someone else... and got a glowing review. Disgraceful.
  6. Lord knows... I mean, it's not like actual talent and a genuine ability to write, play games and be a generally nice bloke goes very far these days. Don't panic, Billy... I'm under the impression that someone's also bought Orpington too. I just don't know the name of the company (even though I was told yesterday) so I didn't want to start idly speculating. Apologies for the confusion. As for the money... well. I very much doubt that Imagine (or, indeed, whoever it is that's lucky enough to get us) is buying into ANY of the company's debts - it's a fire sale, from what I understand. As such, your beef for cash Szezcp still lies with Highbury, not with the new owners... sorry to be the bearer of not-so-good news but then, that's the way the freelance cookie crumbles: into hundreds of stale and unhappy freelancer-shaped pieces. Not that I'm calling you stale, of course. And no, I don't mean DVD Next, JayGo - I mean DVD World, the rather dodgy porn/horror DVD mag that gets made in one of the London offices. DVD Next still lives in Bournemouth, so whoever picks that up will get an added bonus of a decent mag team too. Huzzah.
  7. I believe they're getting Hotdog and DVD World. The lucky buggers.
  8. News get! Well, tomorrow supposedly. And the 'safe' money's on Imagine buying Bournemouth, with 'another' publisher picking up one of the London operations. How very. Very. Very. Exciting. Really.
  9. The 'official line' is that there's a delay due to technical difficulties and we hope that our customers bear with us through this problem. So... that's as vague as fuck then. As far as honesty is concerned though, I can't say whether the current issues of anything will turn up. Annoying and bad, considering you've all paid... yes. But I don't know what else I can say - it's nothing to do with me. I just work here.
  10. I don't think Mart even comes here any more... I heard him mumbling about 'fucking forums' and how he was fed up with taking all the shit from people every month. I don't blame him, to be honest. And I can only tell you what I've heard... supposedly, there's going to be 'news' about what's happening at the company today, so it might sort itself out. Personally, I'd suggest that anyone who wants the mag buys a copy for this month only, because there's every chance the subs problem will be sorted very soon. I see your point too, Adverse... it is a little lame, on reflection. Still made me laugh though. But then, I guess that's just me.
  11. Seems like the subs department have stopped answering the phone following 'abusive responses' from people who hadn't received their mags. Combine that kind of shit with not having been paid by the people who you're supposed to send the mags out for and... well, you can't blame them for not wanting to talk to anyone. And I thought that VJ: RHR review was quite funny - but then, I can see the guy who wrote it from my side of the office (and go drinking with him in the pub), so I guess I'm biased. Even so, humour's as subjective as review scores; no doubt you'll find as many people who find something like Mighty Boosh funny (which I do) as those who see it as completely up-its-own-arse nonsense.
  12. Dammit! Alex W., I doft my imaginary hat... you're right. They've (as in Nintendo Europe) just confirmed what the event next week is all about. It's the 'announcement' of new games for the DS that aren't like traditional games, therefore appealing to a wider audience. You know, like Brain Training. GAMES THAT WE ALREADY KNOW ALL ABOUT. Like I said... dammit.
  13. Danger UXB??!! Fuck yeah! January does suck for games... thank god for import reviews. At least as far as magazine production is concerned.
  14. I'm quite surprised that the Zinio stuff hasn't taken off more - I've read a couple of issues of EGM on that and it's really cool, far better than just a basic PDF. Smooth zooming to any point on the page, actually being able to 'turn' the pages... it's really rather nice.
  15. Cool... wish I'd have known about that last month when I was actually using a Japanese BBQ. Still, at least I only burnt the lettuce. Yes, lettuce. ... ... ... IT WAS ON THE PLATE! Of course I was going to fucking cook it.
  16. Oh, I'm going to hang onto this one... that way, I've got it for quick reference on Wednesday morning (25th) when I can prove you wrong.
  17. Scarcasm will get you nowhere, sonny.
  18. I... don't want to say. If only because I don't fancy being responsible for having a bunch of non-press types descending on the location, making Nintendo very angry with me. But there's an invite on my desk and dammit, I'm going. It's the same day as the first day of the ATEI arcade show, so I'm going to kill two birds with one stone and go to both. Not that I should really be attending either, but hey... they invited me.
  19. Doesn't Yorda die giving birth to twins, then Ico screams 'Noooooooo!' and turn to the dark, shadowy side? Or did I imagine that?
  20. Okay... one more time for the people at the back. 24th January. London. Big Nintendo announcement. And the invite's got the word EVOLUTION written all over it. Combined with these rumours, how can it be anything else but?
  21. Not at all sure if there's been any actual fact here rather than just idle speculation but here's something interesting - there's a Nintendo press event on the 24th (so, two weeks today) in London. The invitation talks about evolution... and how those that attend need to keep an open mind. Hmmm. Counting the days already...
  22. No news yet - rumour has it, though, that we might hear something by... *Dun, Dun, DUHHHHHHH!* the end of next week! Yay. I think.
  23. The original was quite dull... too much story, not enough slicing people open and playing with their blood. ... ... ... What? What are you all looking at?
  24. ALL of Highbury's magazines at the moment are using rubbish paper. The only plus side for gamesTM is that it's already A4... some of the other 'larger' magazines have been downsized to save cash. But then, there's always the pagination that could be cut I suppose... if the management are fucking idiots, of course.
  25. Red Hot Rumble? Nah, it's not fun at all. You sure you're not thinking of Double Trouble, the DS one? And FarCry's not shit online... personally, I'd take it over Halo 2 any day. But then, I'm clearly a heretic.
