  1. New patch feels very weird! Been too busy to play very much recently, and also been dabbling in learning Melty the last fewe weeks when I have had spare time - that game seems fun to mess around with, but no chance of it replacing Strive in the long run - but I managed to sneak in a couple of hours of STRIVING this morning. For the system-wide stuff, I really like the counter slowdown on air normals now, that definitely feels nice as you can consistently get more reward from a correct guess. I hate the changes to RC timings on throws though, I've been punished for being a fraction too early on cancelling the throw more often than I've been punished for trying to OS. As for the other system wide changes to air gatlings and dash cancels, I just haven't played enough to really know what's going on there yet, and it's a bit early for people to have properly adapted so I haven't seen much of it. As for Sol's changes - he just feels really weird right now. I think you're supposed to be using his new air stuff to replace the utility of 6P wall-bouncing in the corner for combos, but none of his new routes feel anywhere near as satisfying (or consistent) as the old. And on that note all of his new combos look really janky. Especially the ones which require you to do one hit of BR on an airborne opponent, then catch then with a run-cancel 2K run-cancel 2K jump cancel jS or whatever. The change to BR so the second hit is optional is cool though. I think once I'm used to it, it'll have a lot more utility - especially being able to not accidentally break the wall in corner combos. For now you can get away with some absolutely nonsense by throwing it out on block and then following with a strike or throw mixup, but people will wise up before long, I'm sure. But yeah, I keep dropping combos because I forget I need to press K twice now! This is precisely what I hoped wouldn't happen with this game though - sweeping changes that just outright nullify a lot of knowledge and muscle memory. This happened in BlazBlue CS when I played Ragna, too. The first major patch just took away all of his standard BNBs, and I just fell off the game afterwards. I doubt that will happen this time, as I'm still enjoying the game a lot, it's just going to be a bit of a long road back until the new stuff gets figured out and I've internalised some reliable combos for each situation. I think that's probably going to be the rub with the character now - combos are going to be extremely situation specific. Also how the heck did Ramlethal get so buffed in this patch?!
  2. Hey, PC players! There's a little program you can download called totsugeki.exe which cuts time spent "connecting to server" by up to 75%! Fingers crossed the update in November brings this time down on console as well.
  3. I just had my most fun run in ages. After smashing through act 1 with hyperbeam and very little else, I got offered my first snecko eye in flipping ages. I didn’t have any frost orbs, or even any other 2 cost cards, but since didn’t have any card draw either I thought it would be worth the investment. Payed off almost immediately with meteor strike early in act 2, followed by necronomicon (no curse thanks to omamori) and two echo forms. Also found capacitors and a consume before the end of the act, which was basically a joke thanks two either low cost or double/triple hyperbeams and meteor strikes. Took busted crown as I basically didn’t have much left to scrounge up by that point. I knew it could beat the heart so went for the keys in act three and somehow my deck went from strength to strength, getting me the loops, frost orbs and heatsink I needed to really get WILD. Plus an electrodynamics because why not! Unsurprisingly, it was smooth sailing all the way!

  5. I also have been finding the Watcher a grind. I think she's more balanced now, but was far more fun to play during the middle period of her development when she was way, way overtuned. It's been quite weird going back to low ascensions after a break of at least a year and a half, some skills have remained while others have completely fallen by the wayside. Also looking at my stats so far, I've been pretty surprised by how they stack up against my impressions of how I've felt I've been playing. I've just been rotating through the characters until they're all the same ascension level, and I got off to a perfect start - 1 win for each character before dying even once (was tempted to call it quits there, tbh!) I assumed I was hot shit because I got to ascension 5 with the Ironclad before dying with that character even once, but have been feeling like Silent and Watcher have been huge struggles so far. Defect is basically a coin toss, in my memory. Very easy to get going at low level but sometimes it just falls apart in act 2 when nothing's working. It felt like the not-fully-unlocked cardpool was holding me back with both Defect and Silent, but I doubt that opinion holds up to any scrutiny! BTW, my last run with Defect I didn't get offered a single frost orb card until mid way through act 3. Anyway, looking at my stats, Ironclad, Silent and Defect are all 6 or 7 wins and 4 losses, and Watcher is 6 wins 1 loss! Despite me feeling like I'm an Ironclad GENIUS, apparently at low ascension and low sample size, I'm pretty much the same with all the characters. Except Watcher, who feels boring to play but is actually busted. Brains are weeeird, man!
  6. I've also recently been playing this a lot on my phone as I'm having to spend a fair bit of time on trains at the moment. Just managed to get all characters to ascension 5 and finished all their unlocks. More fool me, as in my last run I got both akabeko AND ceramic fish and regret playing the Watcher enough to unlock them.

  9. Hello thread for a game probably no-one else is playing! I had to take a few weeks off playing the game as work has been super intense, but I've been easing myself back in over the last couple of weeks. I started back by picking up Ky as a character and playing pretty casually in parks, having lost my VIP status at the start of the month. I was really starting to enjoy him, as he satiates the boring, boring safeness my inner Ryu player craves while also having quite a lot of USFIV Adon DNA as well - big keep away buttons and a couple of specials you can just throw out there and get free pressure on players who don't know any better. Not to mention some very specific and weird combo routing. Anyway, I was having great fun with him, especially playing against characters I struggle playing against as Sol (namely Nago, Chipp, and May) until I ran into a Leo player I usually win 75% of my games against in heaven. This matchup is a STRUGGLE! Felt much harder to me than even Sol's hardest matchups and I lost 20-0. After this I went crying back to Sol to try and get some of my skills back, and it had been long enough I was able to adapt around the nerfs from the last patch much easier than it had been out the gate. Anyway, now it had been a couple of weeks dabbling, I decided today was the day I'd try to get back into heaven. I had one free attempt as I was VIP last month, so I warmed up in a park for an hour or so getting fully mauled by a Jack-O' and Goldlewis in the process, and man, those characters have evolved! Also, the player numbers are pretty down recently, but guess that's not really surprising as the game's been out a solid while now. Anyway, I'm warmed up and instead of chickening out, like yesterday...and last weekend, I actually went into heaven and begun my trial. The only person waiting for a fight was an unfamiliar name, and a VIP Ky player, level 700 or so IIRC. For reference I am level 1370, but I'm kinda scared as that's a pretty solid amount of character experience and I'm out of practice. I think screw it, I'll fight him as I'm expecting to lose and get spat out into floor 10 at least once before I succeed anyway, and it'll be good to get the measure of VIP floor skill level again. The fight starts and I absolutely smash him in the first round, but then in the second I miss a couple of inputs due to nerves and rust and before I know it I've lost. I clearly wanted it too much and was getting impatient in the third, and once again it's over in a flash. Well, 5 games left to win. no room for error anymore! So I hit rematch, thinking that this attempt will be a bust, but valuable experience. However, at this point I'm relaxed, and he's cocky after stealing that game. He's taking all sorts of silly risks, mid screen stun dippers without meter, wake up uppercuts, the works...and I...kinda flub a few punishes but manage to get a solid read on him and scramble my way to victory. Next game, same thing. Holy crap, I'm in with a shot! So, I'm waiting at the setup, thinking I'll take him on again if he rematches, (although honestly, I doubt that would have been smart), but he changes to his main character, Nago, level 1100...and I'm like "nope", and go challenge a VIP Leo whose name I recognise. I was close to closing out the first round, but I get caught failing to reversal DP twice in a row...and finally get the DP when he's doing reversal shield on my wakeup. But I have some valuable info! He's a wake up flash-kicker, my favourite kind of Leo! Second round, and I manage to push him to the corner, and I'm waiting, waiting, waiting for the flash kick. Eventually I figure it's not coming and decide to cS and ...FLASH KICK! Anyway, I'm lucky enough to escape his pressure before he can do much and take the round. Final round, I've got him to the corner again and I'm waiting. Seconds pass, then minutes, hours, but this time I'm NOT cracking. I'm still though, like a stone. Not even jiggling the stick to see if he flinches. Then finally, after a full revolution of our planet around the sun, he does the flash kick. Choirs of angels begin to sing as he plummets back to the earth waiting for the loving embrace of my cS. Not only am I about to hit him, but I have a plan. His burst has recovered you see and I am going to cancel the recovery of my cS by jumping and hold back to block the burst, land, and punish, keeping him in the corner. But just as I think I'm the smartest brain in the galaxy something strange happens. He doesn't burst. I'm stuck in my jump arc sailing towards him, and manage to flail a jK on the other side, which he blocks, before doing 2K into 2D, which knocks me down. Now I am in the corner, at a disadvantage. Luckily for me, I still had one weapon left up my sleeve. VOLCANIC VIPER RRC! It hits! I run forward under his floating body as it arcs through the air. cS! Jump cancel! This time he bursts! I block! I punish with a STANDARD BNB! I WIN! And then I played him twice more and he basically got stuck in the corner all four rounds while I bullied him with my big boy plus frame mids. I even managed a couple of cS run cancel cS HVV combos, which were satisfying as heck. Ahh, it's nice to be back in heaven! p.s. ARC REVO is happening next month - regional qualifiers to be played online with finals happening in February. I don't think sign ups are open yet or there are any details about which platform it'll be played on.
  10. I haven't watched a Jorbs in so long, but that was a spectacular ending. I don't think I've ever heard him cackle quite that much!
  11. Nago is contender for top tier this patch tbh! I can't believe he only got buffed!
  12. Woof, this patch is pretty rough for Sol against Nago. Haven't fought that many of the cast yet, but May and Ky seem quite similar to before, it didn't take me that long to adjust to either of those. The second hit of the fS-5H gatling whiffs pretty consistently vs Nago as you're often at max range. It even happened trying to punish the burst a couple of times! Also Sol's reduced damage scaling from fS starters is pretty noticeable against "all the HP in the world for some reason" Nago - there's generally one more RPS you have to win per round, and damn, it feels hard when Nago is stronger than ever! I've only played two Chipps so far and one of them didn't use j2K at all, so I've only really got one match to go on, but, err, it seemed just as hard as before to anti-air?! I'm very curious about playing against Anji and I-no though, as their changes are pretty wild. Anji's stuff in particular looks so gross. Not from a gameplay perspective, it just looks like a fan-made mod or something the animation is so janky.

  14. I’m down for learning a new character tonight if you want to get some practice in? It’ll have to be on PS though as my computer’s network card seems to be on the way out.
  15. I just had a little play on my lunch break. Did Jack-O's combo trials but that didn't give me any help whatsoever in feeling out the character. Her song is pretty catchy though. Didn't have much time, but I checked out Sol in training mode - I'm really sad at his 6S nerf - that was my go to OTG for continuing pressure after a CH VV, and it leaves him with only 6H to OTG afterwards in midscreen. In the corner you can use 2S instead now, which is alright as a replacement, but a shame you don't get the forward movement from the 6S which would let you pressure from up close immediately. Wild throw being buffed to allow a full combo via RRC is crazy though. Huge damage, put them back in the corner for continued pressure or just go straight for a big damage wall-break, it's all good. It's almost as crazy as May getting a full combo off her command grab without having to spend any tension!
  16. IDK, as Goldlewis has developed, I don't think he's bad at all. He does an absolutely ridiculous amount of damage and can be really difficult to approach. Not to mention he's probably the scariest character in the game to be trapped in the corner against. Speeding up his 6P is doing him a crazy big favour too. Faust is a difficult one because if a random item character is too strong it can make the game miserable. He's come a long way since launch already though, and can be really effective in the right hands; he has absolutely amazing space control tools and can be really hard to pin down. Add in the random factor and the frustration it causes and he's got good prospects. Then again if you make a grappler too strong it can make the game miserable and that doesn't seemed to have deterred Arcsys re: Pot.

Sol - Very happy about SVV being a viable anti air, even if it means it's more punishable - I struggle to deal with Zato when he's hovering right above my head and it was really annoying S Viper didn't do anything. Fingers crossed it works on May's j2H as well! Also happy about the 2S buff - that's a button I actually use a fair bit already, and a buff looks to be very helpful against I-no, where it's the primary pre-emptive "don't stroke me" button. Looking forward to seeing what Wild Throw can combo into too - if it lets you put the opponent back into the corner... heh. The change to HMC sounds weird - I always used to get TR by accident, but never the other way around. Maybe something lost in translation there. Ky - sounds even scarier - his midrange footsies were already incredibly effective and now he's got better pokes and damage thanks to the stun dipper buff?! Interested to see what becomes of DI. May - glad that it sounds like she'll have to use some different buttons in different situations. WTF no changes to Dolphin and now overhead kiss combos midscreen?! Chipp - glad that j2K is more anti-airable but flip me he can now continue pressure on block more easily?! Pot - No changes to Garuda or being able to PRC HPB without tension? Ram - nerfing her jH is cool. Nago - Only buffs, huh... Anji - Interesting - as a pretty huge damage character, allowing him to follow up Fuujin even on whiff is definitely pretty scary.

  20. …and I’m out to Rize|Kanza, a (sponsored?) Chipp player 1-3. Will probably do a longer post later but I lost to a Nago and then a Chipp, my two demon matchups. Very happy to have made it out of pools for the first time though, that was grand. Also I’m coping with nerves a lot better these days. My heart didn’t start pounding until I was 2-0 up in the match to get into top 64, lol.

  22. Been really busy with work this week so haven't played since Monday, but Big Levo 3 is today and starts in about half an hour. Just checked out my bracket (Pool A9), no names I recognise, but I turned on the prediction function (for the first time) and it has me going out just before Top 64, lol. I hope I live up to the metadata's impression of me, despite my lack of practice and this tourney being on PC!

  25. Jesus christ, he's so consistent with that bandit revolver PRC jK clean hit VV. The timing is super tight and I never try to use it in games because of that, but good lord you wouldn't know it from watching that!
