I'm resurrecting this thread for the sole purpose of plugging my own show which is weak BUT I think it is of interest as this is a thread about CHVRCHES on a videogame forum and Iain from CHVRCHES was the guest on the latest episode of my podcast about videogames. Have a listen, love to hear what you think: WEB: declandineen.com/checkpoints RSS: feeds.feedburner.com/checkpoints-declandineen iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/checkpoints-declan-dineen/id961200224

  4. Thanks so much! You should definitely listen to the one with Mark, I know everyone is all UGH FREEMIUM but it's not a propaganda piece, just a fascinating chat about the systems and psychology involved. This RSS should work: http://feeds.feedburner.com/checkpoints-declandineen Do let me know if it doesn't. So glad to hear people are enjoying it, I've loved having the conversations and I've got some really cool guests coming up. If you can take a second to give it a rating/review on iTunes that would be incredibly useful, or just tell a friend!

  6. New episode of Checkpoints is up. Guest this week is Rhodri Broadbent from Dakko Dakko, charting his career through the games he played. It's a really great ep, maybe my favourite so far, mostly because it fits so well with my original intention of the show. Hearing about the games he loved as a kid, and how that inspired games he made in his career working for Lionhead, Q, Pixel Junk and then cashing it in, coming back to Wales and starting his own studio. Always value any feedback! Listen online - declandineen.com/checkpoints iTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/checkpoints-declan-di
  7. I don't know if anyone listened to the last one but there is a new ep of checkpoints and I'm still really proud of it and I still think you guys would like it. I've got some cool guests lined up for the future too. Checkpoints ep 2 with Ste Curran. In which we talk about pop music, F-Zero GX, Space Truckers & how a chance encounter with Parappa the Rapper changed his life forever. Listen here: http://declandineen.com/checkpoints Or subscribe here: https://itunes.apple.com/…/checkpoints-declan-d…/id961200224 Share if you're into it!
  8. Sure do: http://feeds.feedburner.com/checkpoints-declandineen Cheers!
  9. Hello! I've been an avid reader of this thread for years, and now I've got a chance to submit my own podcast which, I think, is quite unique. It's called Checkpoints, and it's long form interviews with people in the gaming industry charting their life through the games they've played, and potentially, seeing how those formative games have influenced the work they do. You can listen to the first episode here Or subscribe on iTunes HERE My first guest is Leo Tan, former Activision and Capcom PR dude now working for Turbine in Boston. Amongst other things, we talk about hairdressing, Bloodwych
  10. I had a dig around but couldn't see any threads for film makers. Is that right? I mean, it's understandable. Making films is a really laborious process. Getting together a crew, auditioning actors, securing locations, scheduling filming time, getting the right equipment, making shot lists, storyboarding, shooting, editing. Ugh. The only reason I started making shorts was because I'm an impatient writer and there's only so many scripts you can write before you need to start seeing results. Like I said though, I'm impatient. Impatient enough to think, isn't there a way of doing this faster? Isn
  11. If you have the time or inclination, I've attached an excerpt of Project Alpha, a play I wrote last year. project_alpha_excerpt.pdf It's based on a true story and lots of personal testimony so it was quite a challenge to make into a gripping story. I'm fairly pleased with it. My only concern is that the material might be a little dry for a wider audience. Reality and obligation to those involved prevent me from introducing marauding robot armies and lucha dore saviours, but that's for the other scripts.
  12. That is excellent. Good job. So stylish, even the formatting looks cool. Did you ever get it performed?
  13. I don't know the full scope of your script, and I know how horrific and daunting the thought of such a massive change to something you've no doubt spent an obscene amount of hours pouring over, but just going on your post above, rather than rely so much on the past and memory, could you not set the play in the memory and have the present as it is now presented in flash forward? Again, this might change the tone too much as people are so used to the flashback they might find it a bit jarring trying anything else. Thinking about it, the structure needn't change too much. Flashforwards and backs
  14. This calender is gold, thanks! I'm currently finishing off a script called The Origin of the Species, hopefully in time for Scriptapalooza. It's an end of the world story (I know, yawn) but I think there's enough fresh ideas to make it stand out a little. I've been working on it on and off for years, I'm just looking forward to finishing it. The first few scripts I wrote were pretty terrible, but all worthwhile experiences. Everyone needs to write a bunch of shit scripts first, it's the only way you'll get better. My favourite piece so far is a script I wrote called Project Alpha, which was b
  15. If you watch the trailer there is a shot towards the end that wasn't in the version I've seen which hints at the tone of the alternate ending. Completely lived up to the hype incidentally, I've not been as unsettled by something since Ghostwatch. Whilst it all plays out in a rather obvious and largely mundane fashion, they create an incredible amount of creeping tension from a repeated fixed shot of a couple sleeping.
  16. They did a bunch of webisodes in the run up to season 4. Most of them were filler, nothing particularly interesting. This was the last one they showed before season 4 started. You can see most of them on youtube I think. I only found out about them when browsing lostpedia.
  17. They've still got a fair bit of explaining to do regarding Jack's dad. If they're so certain that he is dead, then why on earth did they make this? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_i5uCv69s5s
  18. You could even try Lostpedia.com if you want to really delve into it.
  19. Hello rllmuk. I've written a graphic novel and am searching for an artist. Genre wise it's a zombie story, we follow a band of survivors trying to figure out what's happened and stay alive, except instead of zombies it's robots. Night of the living matrix. Broadly it's about evolution, global warming and the nature of life. As wanky as that sounds I'm really pleased with it, and once I get an artist I know a few people in the industry who'd happily take a look at it. I'm not looking to make it too stylised, despite the robots and the large amount of action sequences, I'm thinking fairly reali
  20. it is worth buying or renting a copy of willard just so you can see him interviewed during the extras, and best of all, his directors commentary for the music video of his version of ben. i don't know how his mind works, but his way of presenting his ideas is spectacular.
  21. it took me a few months of off and on play to get it done, but i have finished master's mode, and as far as i can remember nothing extraordinary happens. i might be wrong, i will check it later, but i don't think its anything morfe than the original ending. sorry. the feeling of satisfaction is worth the effort though, because masters mode /is/ really tough, and it does take a lot out of you, but it feels so good.

it's so frustrating! i can't even load it up and check what my old scores actually are, but i'm sure they must have been beaten by now. i am happy in the knowledge that my smartbomb is somewhere around 3200, but i know for a fact there are some songs that i haven't even broken 1000 on. well, i know that rubbish garage track is under 1000 anyway. humph. i will try again later.

he's lying. he must be lying.... right? frequency has died for me. it has teased me once or twice, but now it seems to be official. it simply refuses to load. but still, what is it now? two and a half? three years? and it hasn't been out of my machine for more than a month. that's the best quality video game of all time, i owe it a second purchase. all my pads are fucked too, its the R1 that always gives up first. i guess i should get a new pad too, man, it'll be just like starting over.

just don't mess up. i say that, but i have been messing up loads lately, although i have been practising playing with one hand, and i'm egtting pretty good at it. it's a shame i don't know anyone in real life that will actually think it's impressive. oh, and obviously, i still have to use the other hand to switch tracks. lets forget i started this post hey?

i can't make it on the eighth either. and i was the one who suggested it! i have absolutely not a single penny to my name. but we absolutely need to do this at some point, i am still supremely excited.
