I've used one of those too, definitely one of the better Vestax copies, and the focus fader is supposed to be indestructable. You know you can adjust the curves on the upfaders and crossfader on those right? Same on the Vestax ones, but you have to take the lid off to adjust the upfader cut.

Yeah that's the one that I use for one of the nights I do (great for mixing, weak crossfader). It annoys me though that it has a low pass filter but you have to program in how long you want it to run over and switch it in rather than just being able to manually control it using a pot. (Unless I've just not worked out how to do that). My housemate has a Xone:62. Fantastic filters etc. and as far as I can tell it has the same Penny & Giles crossfader as mine, but even on the sharpest crossfader cut setting it's pretty much useless for scratching. Frustrating because it's such a simple thing to sort out! Might actually be able to improve the cut by taking the fader out and scraping off two of the carbon strips.

Sorry, I have to disagree, despite owning one! It's great for scratching which is why I bought it, but the EQ is pathetic and it's overpriced. It only has treble and bass EQs and they only cut by 12dB. Other mixers I've used have mids as well and cut by at least 4 times as much, which means you can properly take parts of each channel out and get a cleaner mix. It does have a better cross-fader for scratching than any other mixer I've ever used though (apart from the 05D which is basically the same but digital). I've used those big Pioneer mixers which are great for mixing, but we managed to make the cross fader bleed after about 2 days of hard use. If you want 1 more EQ band on the Vestax you have to get an 07, which is very expensive, and I think the cut is still only 12dB. It's still the best mixer for me at the price, but I really want something that's good for mixing as well as trickery. I might have to look into buying a Rane.

I got into mixing to annoy timdp by learning to scratch Got 1210s and a Vestax 06 Pro, plus Serato which I've not used to play out with yet. I play mostly liquid d&b, plus hip-hop and breaks at local nights.

I never said I couldn't be arsed, just that 70 quid was a bit steep. I thought the plan was for me and kanoobe to come down? No reason foe party boy not coming as well though. Or are you saying there's only 1 extra cheap ticket? I'll have to consult with kanoobe about the 70 quid thing!
  7. I couldn't find anyone talking about this in the search, but the Homestar Runner site have put up a very well observed parody of classic console games, it's actually quite hard due to the traditional die and go back to start mechanic. http://www.homestarrunner.com/stinkogame/v3/stinkogame.html

  11. I keep harping on about it but everyone I know moved from TOCA 2 on to Live for Speed (awful name, not to be confused with Need for Speed), and have never looked back!

It took me ages to realise that the main melody on Wizards of the Sonic is from Sonic the Hedgehog. Did everyone else realise straight away?

Have you tried the Live for Speed S2 Demo. In my opinion some of the best online racing you can get, if you have a FF wheel.
  15. I loved 7, it was dark. Loved the sephiroth bits and the industrial scenery mixing modern and old looking machinery. I had a look at 8 but found it a bit gay. I've actually got 9 but I found that a bit gay too, is it worth trying again, does it get better? I never learned how the card game works, that looks quite interesting. I bought 10 as well, but got bored of that after a while.
